NOV 4, 1910 TIOGA CO NY / The Waverly Free Press / Tioga County Record, Waverly NY. Erie Engineer Killed. Binghamton, Oct. 31, 1910. While on the way to a D.& H. train that would carry him to his home, where he expected to complete arrangements for moving to this city, ROBERT W SPERRING, aged sixty years, and for forty years an employee, and thirty years an engineer on the Erie railroad, made a fatal misstep in front of Erie freight train No. 88 Saturday afternoon and died shortly afterwards from his injuries. The accident occurred on the eastbound tracks of the Chenango street crossing. Mr. Sperring had gone into the yard office to phone his conductor, John Alden, informing him of his Intention of going to South New Berlin that afternoon, and telling Mr. Alden to get his pay envelope. As he walked out of the office he stepped directly in front of the engine and was thrown a short distance. His head was crushed and it was supposed that he had been instantly, killed. Sperring had been spending a portion of his time at South New Berlin, where he owned a hotel. He was just preparing to lease this and move to Binghamton. He is survived by his (2nd) wife; three daughters, Mrs. Charles E. O'Neil and Miss Louise Sperring of Binghamton and Mrs. (Eva) Nelson C. Dunham (newspaper error; should read Charles N Dunham Jr) of Castle Creek, and a son, Robert L. Sperring of Philadelphia.

NOTES: CHARLES N DUNHAM JR (Little Charlie) 1882-1929 md 20/Aug/1902 in Binghamton NY by Rev George Forsythe to EVA BEATRICE SPERRING 1883-1966. Eva was the daughter of Robert W and stepdaughter of Eliza A (Mary) VanEtten Sperring per marriage certificate. In 1880, the Sperring family is found at Binghamton NY Broome County: Robert W Sperring age 39 born 1841 Engineer; Mary S as his first wife age 31 born 1849 (his lineage per his mother from France); Harriet (Hattie) as daughter, age 11 born 1869 who grew up and married Judge Benjamin Baker; Louisa E Sperring as daughter, age 1 born 1879; and Louisa Sperring, as widow and mother to Robert W Sperring, age 84 born 1796 in England. There were more children born to Robert and Mary Sperring: *Eva born 1883 (subject wife of Charles Dunham); Robert L Sperring, Jr. 1886-1967 (wife, Maude 1893-1968) of West Colesville, Binghamton NY. CLINTON HARVEY TEETER I, of Blountville TN, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 28, 2015. He was the firstborn son of the late Harvey Teeter and Ellen Cook, on January 8, 1941 in San Diego, California. He had lived in Tennessee the past 36 years. Clinton retired from Mead/Domtar of Kingsport, Tennessee. He is a Marine. He was also member of USWA, Pipefitters and Teamsters. He loved corvettes and enjoyed hobby trains.

In addition to his parents, Clinton was preceded in death by sisters, Ellen Penney in 2012 and Janice Pitchford in 2009, as well as two half-sisters, Patricia Piech in 2008 and Judith Wilson in 2013. Survivors include son, Clinton H. Teeter II; daughter, Dana Teeter; step-daughter, Candy Hurd (Billy); sisters, Laurie Dunham and Josephine Hawver; brother, Edward Teeter; special friend, Betty Gillis; ex-wife, Janice Wallace; and several other family members, to include his first wife, Diane Russell.

Family will receive friends at Snyder's Memorial Gardens on June 3, 2015 from 11am – 1pm. Graveside service with military honors to be held on June 3, 2015 at 2:30pm at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Johnson City TN. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Shriner’s. Semper Fi from all who knew and loved you. You will be missed. The Ottawa Herald of Kansas: [abbreviated] JOSEPH CHARLES HUGHS, age 95, U.S.N. Retired, passed away August 16, 2015, at home in Chula Vista, California. Burial will be at the Hughs Family plot in Wellsville, Kansas. Joe was born June 27, 1920, on the family farm in Wellsville, the son of Flo Dixon Hughs and Charles W Hughs, who spawned a 10 year military personnel during he past eight decades. Joe was raised in Ottawa and a graduate of Ottawa High School.

Joe joined the Navy in 1940 and served in the Asiatic/Pacific, European and Korean Theaters of War. He was stationed on the U.S.S. San Francisco during the Pearl Harbor attack Dec. 7, 1941, and participated in the Normandy D-Day invasion. In 1952, he was stationed on the U.S.S. Hailey on an "Around the World Cruise" covering approximaely 18 ports of call. Joe also served on submarines during WWII and duty in Japan with the Occupational Forces after WWII ended. After retiring from the military, he worked for the United Water Taxi Corporation in San Diego CA, and 20 years for the San Diego Unified School District. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in Yokusaka Japan; and he had a love for his family, friends, golf and motorcycles...still riding a bike into his 90s.

Preceding him in death are his parents, his son James Lee Hughs, and sister Felice Moller of Florida. Surviving relatives are his wife, Nana Lois Hughs of Chula Vista; and his daughters, Nina L Ladd and Ron of Bend Oregon, Donna A Hughs of Mountain View CA; his son Lee D Hughs and Kathy of Ft. Worth TX; two grandsons, Sean Laddand Bryan Hughs; sister Mercedes Jones of Ocala FL; and brother Lee Hughs and Priscilla of Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Will Teeter 33, passed away 4/28/17 in New Mexico, s/o Wm H and S Juanita Teeter of GA. James Sladish of Trumansburg NY b 12/30/49 died 10/20/16 s/o John and Anna Sladish.
