Genealogical memoirs, as part of TEETER KIN, (2003), by Laurie S Dunham.

sweet pretty Mother, 1936; to whom TEETER KIN is dedicated. Mom inspired my genealogy quests and my vigor for knowledge and love of life.

Ellen Teeter Cook (1917 OR 2004 VA) in the 1940s at Ithaca NY Tompkins Co (note old phone). Remembering the photo machines (25 cents) at Woolworths, now site of Tompkins Co Library. One could buy a spool of thread (Clarks) for about a nickle. And, there was that orange manderin lipstick (Tangerine) along with Helena Rubensteins darker shade, and Evening of Paris perfume in a blue bottle, and that really aromatic cologne that young ladies first bought (Apple Blossom). And Buster Brown socks, etc. It was such a fun place to shop for hours looking at all of the many items in wooden bins with overhead vacuum tubes exchanges for transactions. The floors were wooden and polished. One could get your picture taken and get a hotdog and soda while waiting for the bus. Have photo of myself taken here also.

Mom

The years roll on. Fascinating, sad and joyful, wonderful, and memorable.

Mother's 85th!

Mother turned 85 in the spring of 2002; I visited her in Virginia that summer. In late fall, she was hospitalized. I went to see her in 2003 and she passed away in the spring of 2004, a few days before her 87th birthday. She is ever within my mind, heart, and soul ~ verily, as I am a part of her. I loved mother, as she did me, and all her children. Memories of mother, along with treasured pictures, bring me peace of presence. Life is short and precious. And, as I too age, I wish to share and leave some heritage with others who may someday wonder of their ancestry. All journeys have significance to being. Live life with love and purpose. Give to life as it gives to you. I miss my sweet mother; the void remains. However, mother's spirited courage and strength and joy of being are the wind beneath my wings!

Mother's spirit lives on ...
