Obituary for Mabel E. (Tice) Retchloff

Mabel Elizabeth Retchloff died at her home in Wister, Oklahoma January 1, 2006. She was 91.

Mrs. Retchloff was born June 15, 1914 in Fairmont, Nebraska, to Van Cleve Tice and Mamie Ameldia Durkin Tice. She married Roy Retchloff of McClave, Colorado September 3, 1940 in Norton, Kansas. They farmed at McClave for several years. While at McClave, Mrs. Retchloff was active in the Methodist church, the Las Animas Eastern Star and served many years as a 4-H leader teaching young girls the skills of sewing and cooking.

After moving to Las Animas in 1957, Mabel worked at the Bent County Memorial Hospital for 30 years until her retirement. She loved working at the hospital and enjoyed her fellow workers.

Mabel loved to cook, sew, crochet, knit, garden and spend time with her children and their families.

Her three children Donna (Al) Frederick, of Ely, Nevada; Dan (Sarma) Retchloff, of Wister, Oklahoma and Jack (Pat) Retchloff of Saegertown, Pennsylvania; 10 grand children, 17 great grand children, 6 great great grand children, and dear friends Mary and Joe Martinez and family, of Las Animas Colorado, survive her. Roy Retchloff and her brother Herb Tice preceded her in death.

Private interment will be at Wister, Oklahoma.
