Greetings! This web page represents a recent divergence from my normal research routine. Many hours have been spent indulging this new found passion, so I hope that you find the information useful. Most of the information included in this web page is derived from a journal which my grgrgrandfather kept. This journal was entitled, "Memoirs and Observations", by Robert Fletcher. Robert began this journal in 1810 at age 45. At that time, he resided outside the village of Traquair, in the county of Selkirkshire, Scotland. Although a shepherd by trade, Robert spent a great deal of his free time attending church, reading the newspapers and books of the day, and discussing issues pertinent to both the village but also to the larger sphere of the known world. He is in a true sense, an independent thinker and writer. In 1823, after the death of his second wife, Robert migrated to the United States along with at least 4 of his children from his second marriage. His remaining children remained in Scotland as many were older, married and had families of their own. The Robert Fletcher family localized themselves to Delaware County in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. Robert continued his journal writing until 1843 when the journal abruptly stopped. Robert Fletcher died in Andes, New York in 1860.
