Blaine JournalThurs mar 31, 1871
ObituaryLast Monday, Miss Lydia West, the sixteen year old daughter of Jabez and Nancy West, died at Port Moody, B.C., of fever accompanied by symptoms of quick consumption. The body was brought to Blaine for interment by the sorrowing parents, who arrived on the Evangel this morning, with their family. The funeral service was held in the public school house at half-past ten oclock this morning, Rev A. warren preaching the sermon, after which the body was laid to rest in Mr. Cains orchard, by the grave of Grandmother CAIN. Mr. WEST is an immigrant, from Clear Lake, Wis., who came last fall to Port Moody, with his family, in a company of emigrants, including his brother, W.H. West, and Messrs. WALWORTH and MERRELL, who came here a few weeks ago, on his way to this locality for the purpose of securing a new home. The entire party tarried at Port Mood for a while, and here Miss Lydia was taken sick. The young lady was very highly esteemed by her friends. She was a trusting Christian, and before her death she told her mother she was perfectly willing to go if it was the Lords will. Friends here, who had been notified by telegraph, met the bereaved family at the steamer, and citizens here showed their sympathy by a full attendance at the funeral.

Sep 29k, 1888---MARRIED---
KEMP-WEST -- On the evening of the 18th of September, 1888, a few special friends assembled at the residence of Mr. J. WEST, of Blaine, to celebrate the union of Mr. James KEMP and Miss Jennie WEST in the bonds of holy matrimony. The marriage service was conducted by the Rev. A. WARREN, followed by happy congratulations, music and general sociability for half an hour. Then the company were treated to an excellent supper, and the young people were each permitted to carry away a piece of the bride's cake to put under their pillow in hopes of getting a revelation of time and way they too might share in a happy fortune like that of Jennie and Jim. NOTE: Jennie is probably Janes J. West born abt 1868. James Kemp born in Canada in aug 1863

Sep 27, 1888----MARRIED----
ROGERS-WEST -- Last Sunday, September 23d, 1888, Francis E. ROGERS and Sarah J. WEST were made one in holy bonds of matrimony. It had been arranged to celebrate the wedding at the house of the bride's parents, and quite a number of special friends assembled there. But on considering the fact that owing to sickness the parents of the bridegroom could not be present, it was generously decided that the assembly should go there. So all went to the Blaine Hotel where the parents and friends of both parties were permitted to witness the marriage services conducted by Rev. A. WARREN at 4 p. m., and Frank and Sadie became Mr. and Mrs. ROGERS. After congratulations the company all enjoyed the marriage supper which was splendid. And henceforth the proprietors of the Blaine Hotel will be F. E., S. J. & Co., and we wish them great success.
NOTE: Sarah J. West born in Jul 1864.

Oct 25, 1888--Mrs. Hannah VAN LUVEN died at the WALLWORTH's Monday evening October 22d, 1888, of the dread disease small-pox. She was nearly 35 years old at the time of her death, having been born in Ontario, Canada, December 31st, 1853. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry D. WEST, and was married to Schuyler VAN LUVEN about 15 years ago, and now leaves him and four young children to mourn her loss. There is something sad about the death of these young mothers. There is something inexpressibly sad about Mr. VAN LUVEN's death after convalescence had begun, after her weeks of faithful toil among the sick. If she had been a Roman Catholic the church would sanctify her memory among men. As she was a patient, loving mother, a faithful, tender nurse, a holy Christian woman, the Lord of Heaven will do a grander thing, and make her a saint among the angels.

Nov 14, 1889--The home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank ROGERS was brightened up Sunday evening last by the arrival of a new nine-pound boy.

Oct 19, 1894Nancy Jane, daughter of Jabez and Nancy West, was born in Ontario, Canada, Sept 11, 1868 and died Oct 15, 1894, aged 26 years, 1 month and 4 days. She was married to James KEMP, Sept. 18, 1888. She leaves a father and mother, two brothers and two sisters, a husband and four children, together with a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Appropiate funderal services were held in the M.E. church, of which she was a member. Though a great sufferer, she bore it with Christian patience, and once when spoken to by a friend as, A poor sufferer, she said, no, I am not poor, I am rich in the Lord. The bereaved husband and friends have the sympathy of the entire community in this hour of trial.
