John Abraham Snider1,5, Paternal GrGrGrandfather, according to the 1851 Canadian Census1 was born in Upper Canada, on 10 May 1799 d: 22 Feb 1874. His wife�s name was Nancy Ranous[sic} b: 3 Sep 1800, d: 3 Nov 1846. They were married 19 Jun 1820 in Canada, Their children were Tobias Henry b: 23 Mar 1821; James R. b: 10 Feb 1823 d: 6 Apr 1825; John R. b: 12 Mar 1826; Robert M. b: 19 January 1832, d: 20 February 1832. Daniel and Mary Jane, twins, b: 15 Mar 1833, Mary Jane died 19 Feb 1837; Nancy Elizabeth b: 17 Apr 1837; d: 6 July 1921 Abraham (Abram) Nelson, my GrGrandfather, b: 9 Jun 1839 d: 2 Feb 19237. Nancy and Abraham are buried in the Blaine Cemetery, Blaine Washington.
Tobias Henry (2) John Abraham(1) married Mary Jane Cadman b: 8 March 1828, d: 11 April 1871, in Picton, Prince Edward county, April 2, 1839 [sic]8 Mary Jane is buried in grave 61, St Lawrence Cemetery, Concession 18, Wolfe Island6 Children of Tobias and Mary Jane were John b: abt 1849; Minerva b: abt 1853; Sylvia b: abt 1854; Abraham b: abt 1857; Samuel Rose b; February 2, 1860 d: February 26, 1949 in Olympia, WA; Marian b: abt 1862; Gertrude b: abt 1863; Phebe b: abt 18659 . Tobias emmigrated from Wolfe Island to Lincoln, Polk County, Wisconsin. He was naturalized in 1879.
Samuel Rose Snider (3), 10 Tobias H (2), John Abraham (1) married Margaret Hattie Stewart, b: abt 1870, abt 1886. Samuel and Margaret's children were Pearl Elizabeth b: August 8, 1888; Joseph Franklin b: January 5, 1891; William Alfred b: May 17, 1893; Emma Lena b: January 14, 1895; John Wesley b: June 23, 1900, and Minnie Atilda b: abt 1905.
Nancy Elizabeth Snider b: 17 April 1837 d: 6 July 1921, married Jabez West on Wolfe Island, 14 September 1861. Their bio is under Jabez West.
Abraham (Abram) Snider married Amanda Malvina Gilfillan b: 17 May 1833 in New York state, d: 27 Dec 1897 on 18 march 1862, on Wolfe Island. Amanda, according to her obit, is buried in Woodstock Cemetery (intersection of Minnesota 30/18 south of Lake Wilson, MN. All children are listed on the 1871 Canadian census. their children are: John Wesley b: 19 December 1862 d: 13 Apr 1937 in Bellingham, Washington. Eunice Elizabeth b: 2 June 1866 d: 11 November 1950 in Breckenridge, Minnesota. My grandfather, James Henry Snider b: 16 October 1871 d: 13 Dec 1935 in a logging accident near Williston, North Dakota. All born on Wolfe Island. In the 1871 Ontario, Canada census the last name is spelled �Snyder�.
Abraham moved to the United States on Jun 2, 1872 with his family, according to his petition for US Citizenship. Abraham�s first petition for Citizenship was on 1 march 1878 and he received his citizenship 12 June 1883 his wife Amanda Snider, Nee Gilfillan, children John, Elizabeth and James. William and Nancy, twins, were born in Minnesota on 14 February 1874. Nancy died March 16, 1958, in Los Angeles California. Data provided by personal research of US Censuses, Bureau of Land management and Naturalization records. Amanda Elizabeth is buried in Woodstock cemetery at the corner of county 18/MN 30 just sourth of Woodstock, MN.
Abraham N. Snider received a land grant in May 31, 1884 to farm Section 2, South � and East � of the northwest and southwest quarter of township 106N, range 43 west, in Chanarambie/Moulton Township. Abraham was instrumental in having Limestone township renamed Chanarambie Township.
After the death of James A. Gilfillan, father of Amanda, his widow Eunice E. Gilfillan lived with Abraham and Amanda. She died on Apr 25, 1885 at the age of 91 and 1 day. Place of burial is unknown.
John Wesley married Rebecca Elizabeth Newell, b: 28 October 1866 d: 4 January 1947on 28 October 1885 in Eagle lake, Minnesota. Eunice Married John Huffman in Minnesota, James Henry Married Florence Prosser in North Dakota,
William Ernest married Almyra G. Okey in Minnesota, Their children were Ethel M. Snider b: abt 1897 and Earl A. b: abt 1906. Both children were born in North Dakota.
Nancy Orilla married Aaron Arrowsmith b 2 November 1872 in England, d: 1 November 1941 in Oregon, in Minnesota. Their children were Harold b: abt 1901; Ruby M. b: abt 1904; Ruth Elizabeth b: abt 1909; Helen Margarate b: abt 1819; Paul E. b: Abt 1913; Doris L. b: March 1916 Aaron and Nancy moved to Oregon in 1944 where Aaron died, according to the death certificate. Nancy died in Los Angeles, CA.
John Huffman died on his farm, Northwest of Fairmount, ND in 1933. Eunice died in 1950. No death dates or location confirmed for John Snider, William Snider or their spouses.
