From AM Benson Submitted by AM Benson Transcribed by Peter Rogers Kingston Whig Standard July 10, 1936 OLDEST RESIDENT OF AMHERST ISLAND Mrs. Instant, whose picture appears here, is the oldest resident on Amherst Island, having celebrated her 93rd birthday on June 23rd this year. Mrs. Instant is still able to take an active interest in her home and community. Her home is just east of Emerald village and recently she was present at the dinner that was given to mark the centennial of the founding of the parish of Amherst Island. Many prominent speakers were present from all over and Mrs. Instant listened to the speeches intently, ate a hearty dinner and had a good time visiting with all her neighbours as well as receiving congratulations from the visitors on her birthday. While Mrs. Instant is a little deaf, it is no trouble to carry on a conversation with her. She can see to read with the help of glasses and is able to walk unassisted. She lives in her own house with a lady for company and gets a lot of joy out of life. The townships he covered are the same ones mentioned for the area covered by Rev. John Langhorn. The register spans the years 1800 to 1830s. From Bill Martins Site:The Parish Register of Kingston, Upper Canada 1785-1811 Edited by Archibald Hope Young (1863-1936), this book was published in Kingston in 1921. It contains the register of Dr. John Stuart, as it pertains to Kingston. This book has a lot of historical details about the early days of Kingston and the founding families. If you are lucky enough to find an ancestor listed you may also be able to find details on their lives and history that Mr. Young has added from a number of other sources in his very detailed footnotes.
