Internment Transcriptions

This list of Sacred Heart internments covers the years 1841-1920. The microfilms used were LDS films 1298771, 1846464, and 2032236. In researching the Sacred Heart internments, I found a couple of interesting notes.

One was1847 was a year of many deaths. One thousand four hundred and ninety-four are entered in the book in Kingston. Sometimes twenty were buried in one day. Often names were not given, especially of babies and children and there must have been many from Wolfe Island but no place was indicated. From the family deaths I have researched for 1847small pocks was listed as the cause of death.

Other notes of interest are listed with the individuals. There are notes are of brothers dying on the same day (by drowning together) and other related shipping accidents (as to be expected on an island surrounded by water). But another information stating that when a Mary Doolan died on Oct 19, 1888 she left $537 for church improvement was an unexpected insight into church finances.

Each listing contains the name of the deceased, the date of the death, the interment date, the age of death, additional information and the source of the information. Not every individual has all of this information; it depends on the preference of the priest at the parish at the time of death.

Additional deaths were recorded but were either too difficult to transcribe or when filmednames ran off the pages and only dates of deaths appeared on the microfilmed page. The films also notefor the years 1918-1922 entries are missing.
