James Eccles died while rowing to Wolfe Island from his station on Pigeon Island.

See related Pigeon Island Genealogy story. Believe he was married to Mary STALEY DAVIS.  Usually women did not get the job of keeper on their own merits—usually only widows got the post if husbands preceded them in the job.

With her son, Ambrose DAVIS, 25, Mary served as the light keeper at Pigeon.  Her parents were Martin Staley and Catharine Lambert.

With his mother, Mary STALEY DAVIS.  His age on the census is listed as 25.

On the 1901 Census—he is listed as a “retired keeper”

Married to Ann BENNETT.  He was the father of the next keeper, J.H. DAVIS.

. His salary was $420 per year. He was the son of Richard DAVIS and  Ann BENNETT. He married  Margaret SANDIESON. His family lived on Wolfe. He died in 1930.
