THE ISLANDS NEWSLETTER

May 2, 2004What's new at The Islands page!
Spring has Sprung!
Hello everyone!

The snow is gone! Right now it's raining...LOL
In case you haven't heard- my husband and I welcomed our second child into the world on St. Patricks Day. Due to our lovely new arrival I've been slow in answering emails and putting submissions online (well.. slower than my normal rate!)
Thank you to everyone for your patience!
Submissions are coming in at a good rate... more on this in this newsletter..

A few notes..

Site Corrections
If you happen to see any errors on the site, broken links, typos, or information that is incorrect or not quite right, please email me! Please include the page link where the error is, and what and where the error is on the page. If you are correcting information please give your source if possible. Corrections always welcome! Please put "Island Corrections" in the subject line of your email.

Volunteer STILL Needed Can anyone look this up for the site?
“Canada's Gallant Volunteers of 1837-38: Roll Call, Winter of 1890-91,” The listing is a consolidation of lists of names “prepared through the patriotic efforts of George Merrill of Belleville. published by the British Whig, Kingston, in winter of 1891.” This can be found on microfilm or at Queens, Stauffer Library in Kingston-if you will look this up please email me. I have been told there are a number of islanders listed.

FEATURE:
This months feature is all the great new stuff now online and coming soon!

Thanks to Neil Connolly for photographing and scanning ALL of the stones in the Sacred Heart OLD cemetery on Wolfe Island. I have just finished putting these all online. See the Cemetery Online link on the side bar.
Of great interest is there were 12 photographs of OLD stones that did NOT appear in the 1976 transcription book of the cemetery!!!
Again big thank you's to Neil!!
And more GREAT NEWS! Neil has also photographed the Sacred Heart NEW cemetery and scanning is about to begin. These stones will hopefully get online in the next few months (depending on time taken to scan, and put online)

Currently in the works

Maureen Deacon has sent me lots of Amherst Island birth registrations. I am currently working on getting these online- this is my next project.
Pat McAvoy-Costin has sent in the first installment of pages for her Lighthouses project. First Island to be put online will be Pigeon Island.
Aaron Reid sent in over 50 photos of stones in Willowbank cemetery to online (Willowbank is on the mainland north of the islands- contains many Howe Islanders in particular.) I also have a large number of obits, newspaper clippings of weddings etc, misc birth and marriage registrations to go online.

So keep checking back to the main page for The Islands to see how progress is going on all these great new things to come.
If you have anything you would like to submit DO send them in now! I'll put them up as soon as possible!

(note: submissions for the Island Researchers page are put up as soon as possible after they are sent in)
Working Together
The Islands site is built and grows through the efforts of those who use it. I do what I can to add new information, but I am only one person. Please consider submitting information, photos or anything else you have to add to this site. Credit will be given to the submitter.
Submissions are greatly needed for Amherst Island. Surf the pages to see what IS there.

EVERYONE! Please don't forget to put the word 'ISLAND' somewhere in your subject line! I know I'm missing some of your emails because there is no subject line, or it is 'hi' or something similar and I delete it. I get A LOT of spam and don't take the time to check every email- I look at my subject lines. Thank you.
