THE ISLANDS NEWSLETTER

April 16, 2005What's new at The Islands website!
Greeting from the Webmaster
Hello everyone!

Finally spring is here, along with some nice weather! Updates to the tree will be slowly down slightly, as me and the boys will be spending more time outside. However there have been almost no submissions the last few weeks anyways... so I guess everyone else has spring fever as well!

A sad note....

Remember Chris Morrell

Our dearest friend Chris is no longer with us.
She will be greatly missed for her kindness and friendship
and willingness to help others find their island families.
Chris was the keeper of The Islands tree, as well as a major
contributor of census and other resources.
For those who wish to view her obituary and would like to post their thoughts and feelings and memories, see the below link.
Will will all miss her great kindness and love.
Remembering Chris

Focus On...

Cemetery Online

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~theislands/cemetery/maincem.html
This section of the website includes both transcriptions and photographs of tombstones both on the islands, and of islanders buried elsewhere (off island)

On the main page at the top is a link to take to you to the page of stones for islanders buried offisland. Both transcriptions and photos are always welcome (if you send a photo please include the transcription as well-and the cemetery name and place)

Further down the main page it is divided by island.
Amherst Island has some photos and transcriptions. If you live on the island or plan to visit this summer photos and transcriptions would be appreciated. Some of the cemeteries are very small and wouldn't take long to do.

There are NO KNOWN cemeteries on Garden Island. Please contact me if you know of any burials on homesteads etc.

Howe Islands two cemeteries have been photographed and transcribed. Do check out the page even if you have the transcription book, as there are many stones there that weren't in the 1976 book, including some older ones that were missed.

For Wolfe Island the following cemeteries have been fully transcribed and photographed and are on the site; Sacred Heart RC OLD, Christ Church, St. Lawrence, and Horne & Point Alexandria.
I hope to transcribe the 2 remaining cemeteries this summer, Sacred Heart NEW and Trinity Anglican.

If you have any recent additions (or stones I missed), or photographs of stones that I couldn't find, corrections etc please email me.

Also Does anyone have information on Simcoe Island Cemeteries? Are there any??
Working Together
The Islands site is built and grows through the efforts of those who use it. I do what I can to add new information, but I am only one person. Please consider submitting information, photos or anything else you have to add to this site. Credit will be given to the submitter.
Submissions are greatly needed for Amherst Island. Surf the pages to see what IS there.

Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have about the Island page.

EMAIL ME

If you would like to post anything to this newsletter please email me about it. I'd be happy to put little blurbs- either about family or if you would like to discuss an island topic or recount some island memories.

EVERYONE! Please don't forget to put the word 'ISLAND' somewhere in your subject line when you email me! I know I'm missing some of your emails because there is no subject line, or it is 'hi' or something similar and I delete it. I get A LOT of spam and don't take the time to check every email- I look at my subject lines. Thank you.

What is CHURCHES button on the side bar???

This section of the site is devoted to... The Island Churches!
It includes sections for the churches themselves, their ministers, clergymen, and women in religous orders.
This is a great section of the site to check you, as your ancestors surley attended one of these churches! It is also interesting to see when they began and where the churches were on the island. This can help in locating records.

If you have any old photos, recent photos, information on clergy etc please email me.
