THE ISLANDS NEWSLETTER

June 2006 NewsletterWhat's new at The Islands website!
Greeting from the Webmaster
Hello everyone!

Wow the June newsletter is on time!
The last few days I've been putting lots of great submissions up on the site! As of this morning I'm actually all caught up! So keep them coming guys! This site keeps getting better and better!
Thanks to you all for your encouraging and thoughtful emails concerning how helpful the site has been to you! They are always nice to read!

A Few Notes...

1851 census images now online!!

I've recieved a few emails with links to the new online 1851 census images... so here it is for those who haven't heard yet!
1851 census images

Census of 1851 (Canada East, Canada West, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia)
At this point there is no name or street index. However, the images I looked at were excellent, much better than the microfilm.
Toronto researchers should be aware that the returns for Scarborough and the City of Toronto (1851 boundaries) have been lost, but if they are looking for a family that lived north of Bloor Street, or east of the Don River, or west of about Dufferin Street, they should be able to find them in York Township.
All researchers should be aware that the census was taken in January of 1852, although it is often referred to as the 1851 census.

Search

Please don't forget that you can search THIS SITE using the Freefind search engine at the top left. Unfortunetly there is no soundex search so be sure to try various name spellings. The transcriptions on this site are as accurate as possible in spelling, and we all know how terrible some of our ancestors, and those who wrote down records, were in the past! Best of luck!

Volunteer:

New submissions to the site are always welcome! Even if it is just ONE obit we don't have! Please contact me for submission details. If you would like to transcribe any of the 1911 census in full for the site please let me know. Automated genealogy is only transcribing select headings.

Still looking...
I'm looking for someone to complete the Wolfe Island 1861 census. Chris Morrell (who passed away suddenly in march) had completed and submited Ward 1. It is on the site. If you would be interested in finishing the census please contact me.

This site now has over 870 pages up from 858 pages in feb.
This Newsletter has 177 subscribers, up from 158 in May.

If you would like to submit a "BRICK WALL" problem to the newsletter please email me with "Newsletter Brick Wall" in the subject line.

Other comments, notes, articles are also welcome to be added to the newsletter.

Other submissions to this newsletter are also welcome! Please email me!!

A look at BIOGRAPHIES..
If you haven't already be sure to check out the Island Biographies section of the site.
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~theislands/biographies/mainbio.html
These are submissions from all of your, or other biographies found online. THis is a great area of the site to see families put together with lots of little details mentioned.
Biographies are always welcome! Feel free to contact me if you've any questions.

Working Together
The Islands site is built and grows through the efforts of those who use it. I do what I can to add new information, but I am only one person. Please consider submitting information, photos or anything else you have to add to this site. Credit will be given to the submitter.
Submissions are greatly needed for Amherst Island. Surf the pages to see what IS there.

Please email me with your Brick Wall questions!!

can you help? Email me or address provided!
From Sandra McCarrick
"I have been researching the Israel and Agnes Garrah family and have found some information but most of what I can find is for Israel and his second wife Mary. If anyone has any information that they can provide me with the children Francis, Harriett, Peter, Charles, Adel;ine, John Baptist and Lucine it would be greatly appreciated. I have extensive information on Julia and some information on her brother Israel. Both came to Michigan and are buried here. Any information that is on the Islands web site is all that I have on the other siblings. If there are any living ancestors, I would greatly appreciate hearing from them. [email protected]"
