THE ISLANDS NEWSLETTER

January 5, 2005What's new at The Islands website!
Greeting from the Webmaster
Hello everyone!

First of all I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season and Happy New Year to you all!
Our family was kept quite busy traveling to all the grandparents houses, Ethan and Rhys enjoyed their xmas and were spoiled rotten as usual.
I'm mostly caught up on answering emails, however it has come to my attention that some never made it to me over the holidays, so if you emailed and I haven't responded please send me another note.
Thanks so much for everyone who submitted over the holidays! I've a folder full of great stuff to put online. Please keep them coming!
Many thanks to Peter Rogers and Jerry Vaugn for helping me keep up to speed by transcribing a number of the scans you're sending in.
Big thanks to Chris Morrell for her continued work on the Island Tree which is now over 25, 000 people!
Many thanks as well to AM Benson for continually sending in notices of marriage and deaths from old Kingston Whig and for typing up all of the birth registrations she's gathered over the years and sending them in (over 300!) I'm still in the process of putting these up!

A Few Notes...

New Simcoe Island Obituary Page!

The obituary section of the site now has a page set aside for obituaries of Simcoe Islanders. Please send your in! (Please make a note what island the obit is for, as sometimes it isn't mentioned in the actual obituary.)

Please Support This Site!

Please help support this site! This site grows by the kind submissions of researchers and those interested in preserving their history. Please send in scans of old photos and documents, transcriptions of certificates, obituaries, bibles etc. There is a spot for EVERYTHING on this site, and if there isn't I will make one. Please contact me if you don't have a scanner and would like to mail COPIES of photos or documents for me to scan and/or transcribe. (They will not be returned and you must cover postage costs)
Please help out by sending in anything island related, even if it isn't for your family! Mystery photos are most welcome! Please email me if you would like to help the site grow! Credit will be given to the submitter.

This site now has over 709 pages up from 697 pages on Dec 3.

This Newsletter has 127 subscribers (up from 116 last newsletter)!!

If you would like to submit a "BRICK WALL" problem to the newsletter please email me with "Newsletter Brick Wall" in the subject line.

Coming Soon!
AM Benson has been kind enough to transcribe the Wolfe Island birth registrations she's collected over the years. At this time up to 1897 have been put on the site, 1898-1906 have been submitted and will be put up shortly.>BR>
Chris is still working on transcribing the 1861 Wolfe Island census. She is only doing headings Name, birthplace, religion, age, occupation as this is to be used as a guide.

Diaries of Irene Dixon Bamford are being transcribed...this will be a long process as there is something like 35 YEARS worth! The first diary is 1887 and HAS BEEN COMPLETED. It will be put online soon. 1888 in progress.
Also coming soon are Mr. Bamford log diarys 1911-1912.

Thanks to Thelma Moye for submitting these diaries!

I am still trying to sort out Amherst Island schools- if anyone can help please email me.

Working Together
The Islands site is built and grows through the efforts of those who use it. I do what I can to add new information, but I am only one person. Please consider submitting information, photos or anything else you have to add to this site. Credit will be given to the submitter.
Submissions are greatly needed for Amherst Island. Surf the pages to see what IS there.

EMAIL ME

If you would like to post anything to this newsletter please email me about it. I'd be happy to put little blurbs- either about family or if you would like to discuss an island topic or recount some island memories.

EVERYONE! Please don't forget to put the word 'ISLAND' somewhere in your subject line when you email me! I know I'm missing some of your emails because there is no subject line, or it is 'hi' or something similar and I delete it. I get A LOT of spam and don't take the time to check every email- I look at my subject lines. Thank you.

Island Chat

If anyone is interested in have scheduled chats in the Island Chat room please drop me a note and we can make up some times. Such chats would be a great opportunity to meet your fellow island researchers, compare notes, ideas and share where and how to find information.
Please put "Chat" in the subject line.
