JAMES NORRIS MEETS HIS DEATH IN A SAD WAY

On Wednesday afternoon between four and five oclock a sad a fatal accident occurred at Howe Island by which a highly respected farmer by the name of James Norris lost his life. He was treating a colt when it became frightened and ran away, dragging him with it. Being caught in the harness he could not extricate himself. When found he was unconscious and bleeding from many wounds. He breathed only half an hour after the accident. He was a cousin to James Norris, proprietor of the Ottawa Hotel, and leaves a wife and family to mourn his death.
A telephone message was sent to his cousin, James Norris, proprietor of the Ottawa Hotel, notifying him of the death. He and the unfortunate mans son, John, in the employ of J. L. Joyce of this city, visited the deceaseds home last evening. The late Mr. Norris was a quiet man, respected and esteemed by the islanders, among whom he has lived for many years, working a farm containing over 100 acres. He leaves a wife and three children, two boys and a girl, to mourn his untimely death. Rev. Father OGorman, in the city attending the theological conference at the archiepiscopal palace, was shocked when a reporter told him of the accident. He said Norris was a member of his flock and always conducted himself in a gentlemanly way. The news of the accident seemed to affect the reverend gentleman very much.
Further particulars relating to the death of James Norris of Howe Island arrived today; it is stated that while treating a colt in a pasture it became uneasy and dashed away. The halter looped around one of Norris feet and he was dragged over stones, brush and timber for more than a hundred yards. His son, with him at the time, caught the colt and stopped its mad career. He released his father by pulling off the boot around which the rope was fastened. The man was terribly lacerated and bruised, the skin being removed from his face and parts of his body in large patches.
