The whole hearted sympathy of Wolfe Island residents is extended to the family of Mrs James Daly, who passed away on March 2nd. Deceased had lived on Wolfe Island all of her lifetime and was loved by all because of her pleasing and loving disposition. Her death is a distinct loss to all. She had been rushed to the Hotel Dieu Hospital when taken ill, but despite all medical assistance could do she passed away Monday. The late Mrs Daly is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs Archie Gregg of Kingston, Mrs George Brennan of Kingston, two sons, Frank and Joseph, at home; one sister, Mrs Redmond of Kingston, and one brother Thomas H. Connolly of Philadelphia as well as three grandchildren. The funeral was held Thursday morning and was largely attended by friends and relatives of the deceased. The spiritual and floral offerings were numerous, testifying to the high esteem in which the deceased was held. The pall bearers were James O'Reilly, Raymond Conley, Rodney McKenna, Michael O'Connell, James McAllister, and Peter Hogan. The remains were placed in the vault to await burial in the spring.

Memorial services for David Ray Bush were Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Edwardsville Cemetery.
Mr. Bush, 60, died Sunday, Nov. 3, at Medical Lodge Retirement Center.
Mr. Bush was born Jan. 13, 1942 in Wolfe Island, Mo. He moved to the Kansas City area in 1961 and worked for C and S Drilling Company from 1962 until his retirement in 1999. Mr. Bush married Charlotte Jean Clark in 1963. Mr. Bush enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, and drawing.
Mr. Bush is survived by his wife, Charlotte Jean of the home; sons, David B. Bush and Kenneth R. Bush, both of Edwardsville; and eight grandchildren.

CAPE VINCENT--Mrs. Fannie Harriet G. Carey,
72, widow of Lorenzo Carey, died Sunday in Mercy Hospital, Watertown, after a long illness.The funeral will be Wednesday at the King Funeral Home. Burial will be in Three Mile Bay Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John (Eliza) Whetmore, Three Mile Bay, Mrs. James (Arwilda) Perry, Belleville, and Mrs. William (Mary) Ellis, Rochester; five sons, Edward, William and Victor, all of Rochester, John, Sackets Harbor, and George, Cape Vincent; two brothers, William Goslin, Adams and Ennis Goslin, Wolfe Island; 25 grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was born Sept. 22, 1897 in Clarendon Township, Ont., daughter of Richard & Emiline Lloyd Goslin and attended Wolfe Island Schools. After moving to the United States in 1916 she was married to Lorenzo Carey in 1919 in Cape Vincent. He died in 1944.
(Date of death was April 19, 1970. She was previously married to a Morrison and had a son Joseph born in 1915 as per 1930 census of family of Lorenzo Carey.)

Lorenzo H. Carey,
76, an Indian basketmaker and caretaker, died at his home here on Sunday, July 9, at 4:30 after an illness of about a year. His condition was not considered to be serious and his death was sudden. He was born June 7, 1868, at Brier Hill, son of Lorenzo and Caroline Sabitas Carey. As an infant six days old, he was taken with his parents to the St. Regis Reservation where he lived for 30 years.
He married Miss Mary House, of Delta, Canada, in 1899. A son and a daughter were born to the couple before her death. He married Miss Fanny Morrison, Cape Vincent, in 1924, and had since resided here.
He is survived by his widow, a daughter, Miss Mildred Carey, Kentucky, and a son, Charles Carey, with the armed forces overseas, both children by his first wife, and Edward Carey, U.S.A., North Carolina; William Carey, U.S.A., Louisiana; and John, Earl, Richard, George, and Mary, all of Cape Vincent, and a sister, Mrs. Mary White, Cape Vincent. Funeral services were held from the home at 10 on Wednesday of last week, with Rev. James N. Pauley, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial was made in the family plot in Three Mile Bay Cemetery.

MRS. WILLIAM L. CAREY, 25, DIES
Death of Cape Vincent Woman, Bride of Two Weeks, Due to Peritonitis.
Mrs. Ella Jane Meeks Carey,
25, wife of William L. Carey of Cape Vincent and bride of only two weeks, died at 1 this morning in the House of the Good Samaritan of peritonitis after an illness of less than a week. Stricken ill last Sunday at Cape Vincent, she was brought to the hospital the same day and on Monday underwent an operation for a ruptured appendix.
She was married to William L. Carey of Cape Vincent March 16 in the parsonage of the Methodist church of Clayton by Rev. Thomas J. Williams, pastor of the church. After a wedding trip, they returned to Cape Vincent and planned to establish their residence in Watertown, where Mr. Carey is employed by A. H. Herrick & Son, flour and feed millers. Mrs. Carey was the former Miss Ella Jane Meeks of the town of Clayton, near Depauville. Mr. Carey, overseas veteran of World War II, received his discharge from the army Feb. 24.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon. There will be a prayer service at 1:30 at the home of her father, Dexter Meeks, Watertown-Clayton state highway, about two miles from Depauville, followed by services a half hour later in the Methodist church of Depauville. Rev. Robert E. Wright, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be made at Three Mile Bay.
The body will be taken to the home of her father late today. Surviving Mrs. Carey, besides her husband and her father, are three sisters, Mrs. Ervin C. (Mildred C.) Russell, 814 Earl street, Mrs. Earl (Marion) Hall, Redwood, and Miss Thelma Meeks, residing with her father; two brothers, Millard D. Meeks, residing with his father, and Pfc. Robert J. Meeks, U. S. army, a military policeman, on duty in Germany, and her maternal grandfather, David L. Zimmerman, Watertown. Mrs. Carey�s mother, Mrs. Sybil C. Zimmerman Meeks, died in the House of the Good Samaritan last Sept. 17 at the age of 53 years. Mrs. Carey was born Feb. 19, 1921, in the town of Clayton, a daughter of Dexter and Sybil C. Zimmerman Meeks. She had always resided on the farm where her father still lives.
She was educated in the Clayton public schools and later was a restaurant employee at Clayton. At the time of her marriage she was employed in the Clayton Central school cafeteria.

Mr. Absalom Briggs of Wolfe Island, well known for a number of years past; says the Kingston Whig; as winter mail agent, made a bet of $50 some time ago, that on the 15th of April he would bring a horse across from the Island to Kingston. This feat, Mr. Briggs actually performed on Wednesday, swimming the horse part of the way across at imminent risk of his own life.

An old and respected resident of Balderson died on Friday last in the person of Mr. Andrew Allan. Mr. Allan had been in failing health for some time and about two weeks ago suffered a paralytic stroke. He was born in Kingston 81 years ago and after a short residence on Wolfe Island the family came to Balderson. His father William Allan settled on the farm now occupied by Mr. J.A.D. McLean. Deceased was married sixty years ago to Janet Patterson and of the family six are living: Marshall, Ogden, Utah; George, Keewatin; Norman, Idaho; William H., Balderson; Mrs. Breese and Mrs. Staley, Montpelier, Idaho. Mr. Allan founded a homestead in Drummond it being the farm now occupied by his son William H. Five sisters survive, one sister, Mrs. G. L. Walker, died on June 26 last. Mr. Allan was a man of decided opinions and a staunch Conservative. The funeral took place on Thursday to Elmwood Cemetery and was conducted under the auspices of the Masons. Over 50 members of the Perth craft and representatives from Sharbot Lake were present in a body.

Mrs. Andrew Allan
--After some months' illness, from dropsy and the weight of years, Mrs. Andrew Allan, of Balderson, departed this life on Wednesday night, 23rd January, at the age of 83 years. Deceased was born in Brockville in 1816, her maiden name being Janet Patterson, and she was a sister of Mr. James Patterson of this town. Her father, an old soldier in the British Army, was present at the Battle of Waterloo, and came to Canada to settle, staying for a little time at Brockville on his way to Bathurst, in this county. In 1848 deceased was married by the Rev. Michael Harris, Anglican minister, Perth, to Mr. Andrew Allan of Balderson (Drummond) who with five children, survive: Ann (Mrs. Breese), Eleanor, William, George and Norman. The funeral took place to Elmwood Cemetery, Perth, on Friday. Rev. J.B. McInraith, Presbyterian pastor, conducting the services.

The Late Anson Kiel
The grim reaper, death, again laid its hand upon one of our best know and most respected residents, in the person of Mr. Anson Kiel, who passed peacefully away on Saturday morning, Dec. 30 after an illness of but a few weeks.
The subject of this sketch was born in the township of Wolfe Island, in 1846, from whence he removed to this place 43 years ago. About this time he was married to Mary Jane Matier, from which union resulted two sons: Wm, at home, and Colin, teacher at Cobalt; and four daughters: Mrs. Britton Barker of Arden, Ont., and Mrs. A.J. Baxter of Hastins Coulee, Alberta; (two daughters dying in infancy). One sister , Mrs. Colin McKenzie of Watertown, N.Y., and one brother, Lucius, of Wolfe Island, also survive. Mr. Keil took an active part in military affairs, doing garrison duty with D. Company, P.W.O.R., at Cornwall during the Fenian Raid of 1866. He also accompanied No. 1 company of the 35th Batt. during the North West Rebellion in 1885.
The funeral which was largely attended, took place on Tuesday afternoon from his late residence to St. John's church cemetery, being coducted by the Rev. E.R. James. The members of the L.O.L. No. 985 performed the rights of the Orange Order. The Pallbearers were--John Jennett, Arthur Jary, William Sheffield r.,

-- Peacefully in her home on Thursday, February 5, 2004. She married Kevin McALLISTER Sr. in 1953 and moved to Whitby in 1967 where they raised four sons. Doreen's love and pride was her family. Before her retirement, Doreen enjoyed working with Kevin in running the family business until his death in 1997. Doreen always displayed her own sense of style and a positive outlook on life. She is survived by her four sons and their families: Kevin and Jane of Whitby; Tom and Patti of Toronto; Bob and Barb of Whitby; Patrick and Helen of Whitby, and eleven grandchildren. She is also survived by her three brothers and their families: Bill and Marie MURPHY of Toronto; Russ and Gerry MURPHY of Oshawa; Tom and Edna MURPHY of Stillwater, Minnesota and her brother-in-law and his family, Ian and Jenny McALLISTER of Montreal. C. Leone Stevenson, of RR 1 Wolfe Island, died suddenly on June 11, 1992 at Hotel Dieu Hospital at the age of 75.
Mrs. Stevenson was born on the island, a daughter of Robert Edward and Della Gertrude Bullis. A registered nurse, she was educated at Wolfe Island public schools, Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute, and St. Joseph�s Hospital, Toronto. She graduated in nursing from Ontario Hospital, Kingston. She attended Christ and Trinity Anglican Churches, and served as a member of the choir and Sunday-school teacher. She was a member of the Anglican Church Guild, St. Lawrence Women�s Institute, the Diabetes Association and the Ontario Hospital Nurses Alumni. She had been retired for 47 years.
She is survived by daughter Lorna Livesey and husband Peter; sons Kenneth, and Robert and wife Lyn; grandchildren James and Tricia Livesey, and Bob, Zach, Robert and Gordon Stevenson; sister Muriel White; and brother Hubert Bullis. She was predeceased by her husband, J. Kenneth Stevenson, and her parents.
The funeral was held on June 13, with Rev. R. Meier officiating. The pallbearers were Bill McKenna, George and Clarke White, and Jimmie, Lynn and Jim Stevenson. Interment was at Christ Church Cemetery.

FRED STALEY
At the Hotel Dieu Hospital on Wednesday morning the death occurred of a well-known and respected resident of Wolfe Island in the person of Fred Staley, 76. Deceased was born in Chicago but had lived on the Island most of his life where he successfully carried on farming. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church congregation. He had been ill since Friday last, going into hospital on Tuesday.
The funeral will be held from his residence, Wolfe Island, Friday morning to Sacred Heart Church, Wolfe Island, where requiem mass will be sung at 9:30 o�clock. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Church cemetery. Surviving the late Mr. Staley are his wife, formerly Mary McDonald, one son, Howard of Wolfe Island; one daughter, Mrs. Alexander Sexsmith of Wolfe Island; two brothers, Ernest of California and Herman of Wolfe Island; three sisters, Rev. Sister Modesta of Glen Falls, N.Y., Mrs. Patrick Geary of Syracuse, N.Y. and Miss Bertha Staley of Wolfe Island.

JOHN HALL
A well-known and respected resident of Wolfe Island passed away on Tuesday night at his residence in the person of John Hall, aged 78 years. Deceased was born on the Island and had always lived there, being one of the Island�s best known farmers. He was an Anglican and a member of Trinity Church and was also a member of the Chosen Friends.
Surviving him are his wife, one daughter and two sons. Mrs. George Giles of Wolfe Island and Arthur and Reginald at home; two brothers, Charles of Wolfe Island and George in the United States, and two sisters, Mrs. F. Cummings in the United States and Mrs. Allan Davis of Wolfe Island. The funeral will be held from his residence on Friday afternoon at 1:30 o�clock to Wolfe Island cemetery. Rev. Mr. Lebenson officiating.

Wolfe Island - The funeral of the late John Hall was held to the Anglican Church where the Rev. Mr. Levanson conducted the funeral service which was largely attended. The pall-bearers were J.D.Cosgrove, Thos. Casey, D.J. MacDonald, Samuel Greer, John Clearly, Harry Boyd.

MRS. JOHN KINGSLEY

Wolfe Island - One of Wolfe Island�s highly esteemed residents passed away on Sunday in the person of Mrs. Kingsley, wife of the late John Kingsley, for several years reeve of the Township of Wolfe Island, who died in December 1933. She had been ill for only a couple of weeks following a heart attack.
She leaves to mourn her loss two daughters and three sons, Mrs. Bruno Spoor of Buffalo, Mrs (Dr.) Walsh of Perth, Wilfred, Howard and John of Wolfe Island; one sister, Mrs. Gray of Perth, the eldest of the family, and three brothers, Edward, John and Joseph Murphy of Wolfe Island.
Mrs. Michael Conroy, a sister-in-law, arrived from Boston in time to see Mrs. Kingsley before she passed away.

Wolfe Island - The funeral of Mrs. Julia Kingsley, widow of the late John Kingsley, a former reeve of the Township of Wolfe Island, took place from her residence this (Tuesday) morning to Sacred Heart Church where requiem mass was sung by Rev. J. F. Feeney. The pall-bearers were Herbert Leaky, Robert Boyd, John MacDonald, Joseph Laughlin, Howard McCready and James Barrett. Interment was made in the family plot in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

WILLIAM SAUVE

At the Hotel Dieu Hospital on Saturday the death occurred of William (Billy) Sauve, aged 57years. Deceased was born on Garden Island and was educated there. He had lived in Kingston for 25 years and for years had been engineer on the Patdoris, Daryaw and other boats. He had recently been employed at the Hemlock Park Dairy.
He was a member of St. Mary�s Cathedral congregation. He was twice married and is survived by his wife and eight children. The funeral will be held on Tuesday morning from his residence, 112 Rideau Street, to St. Mary�s Cathedral, where requiem mass will be sung at nine o�clock.

WILLIAM SAUVE

The funeral of William Sauve took place from his residence, 112 Rideau Street, on Tuesday morning to St. Mary�s Cathedral where requiem mass was sung at nine o�clock by Rev. M. J. Brady. A large number of friends attended and many floral tributes and spiritual offerings were received. Pallbearers were Joseph St. Pierre, Thos. Sauve, Harry Haynes, John Jeffries, David Alexander and Daniel McGlynn. Interment was at St. Mary�s Cemetery.

Death At Wolfe Island

Wolfe Island, May 3- On Sunday last, the funeral of the seven-year old son of Thomas Greenwood took place in the Catholic church. It was largely atteneded. The remains were placed in the vault. �(news)�
William Rattray, an old and highly respected gentleman of the foot, passed away Wednesday at noon. He had been engaged at seeding that morning and went to his house where he died.
