Died on Wolfe Island on Sunday, March 29, 1953, Janie Grant beloved wife of the late B. Grant, and dear sister of Donald Angus MacDonald. Funeral will take place from her late residence, 9:30 Wednesday morning to the Sacred Heart Church, where a solemn Requiem High Mass will be sung at 10 o'clock for the happy repose of her soul.Friends and aquaintances are respectfully invited to attend. Interment Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wolfe Island.

MURPHY, JOSEPH
A well-known resident of the city passed away on Friday morning in the person of Joseph Murphy. Deceased had been ill about three weeks. He was born in Ottawa but had resided practically all his life in Kingston. He was a painter by trade.
Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mary, Anna and Nora, and one son, Thomas; also by one brother, Mathew Murphy of Kingston. The funeral will be held on Monday morning to St. Mary's Cathedral and will be of a private nature.

Wolfe Island
Lillian M. Niles, 82, of Wolfe Island, died recently at Kingston's Hotel Dieu Hospital after a sudden illness and was buried at Christ Church Cemetery.
She was born on the island, a daughter of the late Richard Holloday and his wife, the former Lydia Ranous, and had spent her lifetime there. Mrs. Niles attended Christ Church on the island.
She was a member of the St. Margaret Guild and a charter member of the St. Lawrence Women's Institute.
Among her special interests were quilting and crocheting.
Surviving are two sons, Douglas Niles and his wife Valerie, of Kingston; Sherman and his wife Pearl, of Wolfe Island; and two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Audrey) Gurnsey, of Kingston, and Mrs. Raymond (Jean) Fargo, of Davidson, Michigan.
Her husband, Howard Niles, predeceased her.
Additional survivors are four sisters, Mrs. Madeline Fawcett, of Wolfe Island; Mrs. Bessie Kenney, of Adams, New York; Mrs. Margaret MacLean, of Kingston; and Miss Helen Holliday of Wolfe Island.
Her only brother, Leon Holliday, predeceased her as did two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Larry Fargo, Stephen, Jeffrey, Kendall and Pernell Niles and Niles Gurnsey.
Barry and Merrill Niles and Mark Fargo were flowerbearers.

Peacefully, on March 17, 2003, at the Hotel Dieu Hospital, at age 67 years. On Friday morning, at her mother's home in Marysville, Wolfe Island, occurred the untimely death of a young woman - Miss Katie Furlong. She was about twenty-five years of age and her death was due to typhoid pneumonia. A mother, three sisters and a brother are left to mourn. The funeral will be conducted on Sunday afternoon when a solemn libera will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Spratt. Interment will take place in the Roman Catholic cemetery on Wolfe Island.

KEILL, MRS. BRUCE
News of the sudden death of Mrs. Bruce Keill, which occurred on Saturday, November 28th, came as a surprise and shock to her relatives and many friends resident in Kingston and the vicinity. Mrs. Keill was visiting her son, Frank, in Vancouver, B.C., at the time of her death, and he accompanied the remains to Kingston. After the arrival of the train on Monday last, the funeral service was held in Cooke's Church, where Mrs. Keill had been a regular attendant and energetic worker. The service was conducted by Rev. T. J. S. Ferguson. From the church the funeral proceeded to Cataraqui cemetery.
Mrs. Keill was the eldest daughter of Francis McMaster and Mary Ann Scott, and was born on Amherst Island sixty-seven years ago. After teaching school for some time, she married in 1885 Bruce Keill of Wolfe Island. She resided for many years in Collins Bay and later in Kingston. Mrs. Keill was known to all her friends as a devoted daughter, wife and mother. She was a woman of strong character and straightforward manner. Facing the war years with characteristic courage, she had the good fortune to see her soldier sons, Garfield and Kenneth, recover from their wounds and return to her.
Surviving members of the family are her husband and two sisters, Ellen and Jennie, of Maranett, Wis.; four sons, Francis, practising law in Vancouver; Garfield, teaching in Ottawa Collegiate; Kenneth, practising medicine in Binghampton, N.Y.; Emerson, with the Western Electric Company, New York; and two daughters, Mrs. Gilbert, of Calgary, and Mrs. Jackson, of Hamilton.

DEATH OF MRS. ROGERS
An Estimable Lady Who Lived For Fifty Years On Wolfe Island On Saturday last, Mrs. Margaret Rogers, relic of the late James Rogers, farmer, Wolfe Island, died, aged 81 years, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Crowley, Sackett's Harbor. The deceased, a most estimable lady, only left Wolfe Island about a month ago to visit her daughter. For upwards of fifty years she was a resident of Wolfe Island and there reared a large family, among who are James Rogers, Mrs. Hennessey, Mrs. Paine, Wolfe Island; John Rogers, police constabulary, Detroit; Mrs. Crowley, Sackett's Harbor; Michael and Anthony Rogers, Mrs. Capt. Langan, Chicago; Mrs. McAvay, Mrs. Capt. McCormick, Muskegon. The late Capt. Thomas Rogers, of Chicago, who died last winter in Montreal, was also a son. This morning the remains of the devoted mother were laid to rest in the cemetery at Wolfe Island and beside her husband who had preceded her by about sixteen years. A number of the children were in attendance as well as many friends.

MSGR J. FEENEY DIES AT 82
Kingston - Msgr. Jonas F. Feeney (pictured) a priest of the Archdiocese of Kingston for 54 years, died March 6 at the age of 82. Retired since 1970, he was living in Napanee.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Patrick's Church, Napanee. Archbishop J. L. Wilhelm was the principal celebrant with several diocesan clergy concelebrating. Msgr. J. G. Hanley gave the homily. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Nora Madden, of Napanee. Three other sisters predeceased him: Sister Mary Brigid, OFM, Rock Island, Ill; Mrs.Harold McCarney (Helen) Gananoque; Mrs. Desmond Gehan (Margaret), Montreal.
Msgr. Feeney was born in Tweed. He studied at Ottawa University, St. Michael's College, Toronto, and the Grand Seminary, Montreal. He was ordained June 14, 1924, one of 12 priests ordained for the archdiocese that day.
His first assignment was as assistant in Brockville. In 1929 he came to St. Mary's Cathedral as rector. In 1935 he was appointed pastor of Wolfe Island. In 1942 he went to Morrisburg and in 1952 he became pastor in Erinsville, where he remained until his retirement. He was named a prelate of honor in 1974, on the 50th anniversary of his ordination.

HENDERSON, RALPH
Ralph C. Henderson, 55, of Wolfe Island, who died in a drowning accident off Wolfe Island, was buried in Christ Church Anglican Cemetery. He was born on Wolfe Island, the son of the late Clifford Henderson and Rachella Niles.
Mr. Henderson was in the farming and milk haulage business. He had served in the Canadian Army from 1942 to 1945 and attained the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major. Following his discharge he was member of Canadian Legion No. 9 and also as a Warden of Christ Anglican Church for ten years.
He is survived by his wife, the former Zeta Alarie: one daughter, Kimberley, of Wolfe Island and three sons, Cliff and Richard of Wolfe Island and Gerald of Kingston.
Also surviving him are his sister Mrs. Hubert (Lorna) Allen of Gananoque and five brothers, Clare of Wolfe Island, Roland of Montreal, Richard of St. Thomas, Jack of Burlington and William of Kingston.
He is predeceased by one sister, Lily.
Pallbearers at the funeral were Richard Fawcett, James Berry, Jack Joslin, Stan Keogh, Joe Hogan and Lyle MacDonald.

Sanford Joseph Hogan, a life-long resident of Wolfe Island, died on Dec. 14, 1991, at Extendicare at the age of 89. A son of James and Honora Hogan, he was a retired farmer. He attended Sacred Heart Church. He is survived by his sister, Genevieve Koen, and was predeceased by sisters Clara Hogan and Mabel Treacy and brothers Thomas, Stewart and Wilfred. The funeral was conducted on Dec. 17 by Father Appleman. The pallbearers were John Hogan, Murray Fowler, Robert Morey, Frank O'Brien, and George and Jack Casey. Interment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

KIELL, LEWIS WILLIAM
Capt. Lewis William Kiell died suddenly at the age of 71 at Kingston General Hospital, May 18, 1993.
Born on Wolfe Island, he was the son of William Kiell and Elizabeth Woodman. He served in the merchant marine and sailed on the Great Lakes most of his life until becoming captain of the Wolfe Islander. He retired nine years ago. He was a lifelong member of Masonic Lodge Minden No. 253. Capt. Kiell is survived by his wife Gertrude; sons, James Hogan and wife Maureen, and Larry Hogan and wife Sharon; daughter Deidra Langille and husband Allan; and grandchildren Jamie, Ben and Carli. He was predeceased by brother Lorne and sister Ida Tarrant.
The funeral was conducted on May 21 by Fr. Gean O'Rielley. The pallbearers were Pat Doyle, Bert Woodman, Allen Wilkie, Bud Rodgers, Lorne MacDonald and Jim Berry. Interment was at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

The funeral of Stella Murphy, wife of Raymond J. Matthews, was held Saturday morning from the Keyes-Franke funeral home to St. Mary's Cathedral where a requiem mass was sung by Rev. J. P. Sullivan. Interment took place in St. Mary's Cemetery with Rev. J. R. Rowell officiating at the grave. Pallbearers were Charles Compton, Raymond Parker, John Foley, James Stenson, Richard Murphy and Thomas Murphy. Deceased, who had been in ailing health for the past six weeks, died at the Hotel Dieu Hospital on Wednesday. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Murphy and Mary Halliday and was born on Wolfe Island where she was educated. For the past 26 years she had lived in Kingston.
Besides her husband who is with the R.C.N.R., stationed on the west coast, she is survived by one daughter, Anna; one brother John Murphy of Pittsburg Township; three sisters, Mrs. A Murphy of Kingston, Mrs. John Fowley of Watertown, N.Y., and Mrs. W. Harney of Brooklyn, N.Y.

GREENWOOD, VINCENT
Vincent Greenwood, a lifelong resident of Wolfe Island, died May 30, 1991, at his residence, after a short illness. He was 99. Mr. Greenwood was born on the island, a son of Thomas Greenwood and Sarah Kelly. He was educated at Separate School No. 4. He farmed and worked as a caretaker in Kingston city buildings. He was Superintendent of Roads on the Island and assessor in the early 1930s.
Mr. Greenwood attended the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church where he was active in church affairs. He helped to build the present church which was completed in 1917. He sang in the choir for many years and helped organize social activities to raise money and entertain the young people.
He was especially interested in the history of Wolfe Island , and always liked to work and be useful. He was interested in sports, especially horse races and ball games. He enjoyed dancing and for many years loved to call at local square dances.
He is survived by his daughters Mrs. Mabel McRae, Mrs. Marian O'Shea and Mrs. Naomi Dunkinson. He was predeceased by his sons Gerald and Vincent (Bud) Greenwood and daughters Mrs. Lucille Mosier and Mrs. Julia McAllister.
The funeral was held on June 1, with Fr. Appleman and Fr. O'Reilly officiating. The pallbearers were Dennis Mosier, Mickey McAllister, Terry O'Shea, Gordon McRae, Dannie Mosier and Anthony Greenwood. Interment was at the Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery, Wolfe Island.
