Life

Eileen Agnes Sudak is a strong, independent woman with a powerful Catholic faith. For those who were lucky enough to get to know her, it was difficult not to fall in love with her beautiful soul, warmth, and kind heart. There is nothing she would not do for her family. She is generous, loving, and forgiving. She had a great deal of tragedy in her life, with the death of her son Peter in 1971 who died at the age of 17, the death of her husband a few years later, and having to battle cancer in her last few years of her life. However, she managed to raise and provide a loving and nurturing home for her children. She was a happy person, who was always grateful and thankful. She made the best out of what life gave her and put all of her faith in Christ. She inspires many of us with her strength and wisdom. Now, because of her big heart and amazing talent in playing cards, I would like to declare her the “Queen of Hearts”. To Eileen Agnes Sudak, “The Queen of Hearts”, never will she be forgotten. She is, and forever will be, greatly loved, missed, and thought about often. – C.M.F

John Dawson, Wolfe Island

The death of John Dawson occurred on Friday morning at his residence, Wolfe Island. The late Mr Dawson was ninety-two years of age and was born on Wolfe Island, his father being the late John Dawson brick manufacturer. He was a member of the municipal council for the United counties of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, and was perhaps the only living member at the time of his death. For twenty years he was treasurer of the municipality. He was the first Inspector of licenses in the County of Frontenac, and was landing waiter for twenty years. This position he resigned when his brother was appointed sheriff. With his father, he conducted a ferry between the city and the island for many years.
The late Mr Dawson’s wife, who was Maria Cunningham of Cape Vincent, NY predeceased him, and he is survived by four sons, Dr Henry G Dawson of Cape Vincent, James Dawson of the staff of the Canadian Locomotive works, Dr J K Dawson of Stirling, Col Richard Dawson of Napanee, and two daughters, Mrs McRae, widow of the late Duncan McRae, and Miss Minnie Dawson, also his brother Thomas Dawson, sheriff of Frontenac.
The late Mr. Dawson was a man of highest integrity in his business and official relations, a god neighbor and true friend. His father was one of the earliest settlers in this part of Ontario and the son lived to see great steps made in the advancement of the country, and his death removes one of the connecting links with the past history of the county.
