My great great grandfather, James McMillan (1836-1894) was a schoolteacher at Stella on Amherst Island at the time of the 1881 census. He was a teacher at Camden East in 1871. He gave up teaching and moved to Chalk River to work as a railway car checker before 1888. He and his wife, Jane Magill (1836-1888) came from Belfast as newlyweds sometime between 1858 and 1863. Their son, Robert McMillan (1879-1881) is buried on Amherst Island.
