Harmon Limes, Sr. was born on July 14, 1750 and baptized on August 5, 1750 at St. John The Evangelist Smith Square, Westminster, London, England. Andrew and Frances Limes are shown as his parents. A brother, John, was born on October 9, 1752 and baptized on November 5, 1752 at the same parish listing the same parents. These records are taken from the Church of Latter Day Saints microfilm rolls.
The most probable record of Harmon Limes� voyage to America is found in the book, King�s Passengers to Maryland and Virginia by Peter Wilson Coldham (1997). On page 241, is the following entry: Lymes, Herman. Under Middlesex is stated �transported from London by the Thornton, Capt. John Kidd in May, 1773, and registered in Anne Arundel Co. records on 3 July 1773.�
St. John�s Smith Square Church is in Middlesex. Later, American records state Harmon Limes came to America before the Revolution. Thus, the 1773 date and departure location are appropriate for him.
It is published that a January 4, 1783 marriage occurred between Harman Limes and Ann Burnett. They were married at St. Paul�s Parish in Baltimore, Maryland.
Harmon Limes is listed as head of household in Ann-Arundel County, Maryland in the 1790 U.S. Census. However, he is shown as Armond Limes.
By 1791, records reveal that Harmon Limes had moved to Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. From 1791-1798, he paid personal property tax there. In 1801, the listing shows Harmon Limes and son. In 1802, it is Harmon Lymes. 1805 has William Lymes and Hermon Lymes. 1806 lists William Limes and Harmon Limes. 1809 shows William Limes only as does 1810. It is in the listing of 1815C that only an Ann Limes appears, giving credence to the record of Harmon Limes marrying Ann Burnett in 1783.
�Index to Virginia Estates - 1800 - 1865 - Volume 2� - compiled by Wesley E. Pippenger, lists on page 459 the abstract for Harmon Limes for the year 1806. September 1, 1806 is listed as the exact date for the actual record, by which time Harmon Limes (Sr.) was deceased. Eldest son, William Limes, is shown as the administrator. John McKee, and what appears to be a John Mount, are shown as witnesses. The sum of $1,000.00 is given for the amount of the Bond.
The 1810 Virginia Census has William Limes living in Frederick County. No other Limes entries are found.
In the R.S. Dills book entitled, History of Fayette County (Ohio), page 813 offers a summary of the Limes family. �Harmon Limes ... was an Englishman, and his wife, Nancy Campbell, was a native of Ireland. They were married in England, and coming to America before the revolution, settled in Maryland. They had four children: William, Henry, Harmon Jr. and Margaret. William, the oldest of the family, was born October 2, 1778.�

Known records of Harmon Limes, from England, do not support his serving in the American Revolutionary War.
The earliest account, to date, that shows the three Limes brothers being in Ohio is found in the book, Pioneer Ohio Newspapers - 1802-1818. Page 28 lists an abstract from the Scioto Gazette dated Monday, 15 May 1815 as: �Philip Stout, in Green Township, Fayette County, reports that William Limes and Henry Limes have appraised a horse found by Harman Limes.�
Of historical note, William the eldest son, was a War of 1812 veteran. Harmon Jr. served as the first appointed Marshal of (North) Lewisburg, Champaign County, Ohio in 1844.
James Limes was the third oldest son of Harmon Limes (Jr.) and Mary (McKee) Limes. James was born on June 18, 1818, per family bible records (May 6, 1817, per his tombstone). His birthplace was most likely Fayette County, Ohio.
On April 6, 1839, James Limes married Jane Kindred in Putnam County, Indiana. They are listed in the 1840 and 1850 Censuses as residing in Hendricks County, Indiana. Jane was born about 1821. Pvt. James Limes served in the 48th Illinois Infantry, Company �B� during the Civil War. His son, Nathan Riley Limes, also served in the Civil War with the 143rd Regiment, Company �D�.
James Limes died on April 18, 1878 per family bible records (April 14, 1878, per his tombstone) and is buried in the old section of the Union Cemetery in Clay County, Illinois. Jane passed away on September 6, 1892 - �71 years, 8 months and 26 days�. Jane, wife of James Limes. Died September 6, 1892, 71 years, 8 months, 26 days Photograph taken on May 14, 1997 by Agness Bryant of Clay County, Illinois. This is Jane Limes� tombstone at the Old Union Cemetery in Clay County. Agness wrote on the reverse of the photograph: �On ground, right side of Jane�s marker is James Limes Civil War marker. To the right of of Civil War marker is where James Limes marker should be (bottom part is there), and the stone for James is lying on the ground face up behind the Iris and Lilly plants.�
