Fannie Helena "Lena" Derryberry was born 20 June 1858. The 1860 Collin County census indicates Lena was the first of Henry Alexander and Sarah (Chenoweth) Derryberry's children to be born in Texas after their long trip from Polk County, Missouri sometime between 1854 and 1858. Our "Lena" Derryberry was enumerated as Fanie M. Derbury in the 1860 Collin County, Texas census and then Helena Derryberry in 1870 where she was still living at home with her parents in Plano, Collin County, Texas.

"Lena" Derryberry married Elisha A. Thurman 28 September 1876 in Collin County, Texas, son of Daniel Thurman and Sinthia Hill. He was born 18 August 1853 in Missouri, most likely in Taney County.

Elisha Alexander Thurman died 16 September 1919 in Hopkins County, Texas
F. H. Thurman was listed as head of household, a widow, in the 1920 census where she remained in Precinct 3, Hopkins County, Texas. The only child remaining at home was 23 year old William E. Thurman. Lena Thurman left Hopkins County sometime before 1930, she was listed as a 71 year old widow in Quanah, Hardeman County, Texas. She lived with her son William E. Thurman and family.
Fannie Helena "Lena" Thurman died 11 April 1940 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas. Her body was brought back to Hopkins County and she is buried alongside her husband in Forest Academy Cemetery, Hopkins County, Texas.
