William Smith Crowder

 

William Smith Crowder was born 03 September 1865 in Hopkins County, Texas. He was the son of Green Ham Crowder and Virginia Bromley. William left the county when he was still a young man, most likely after the death of his mother. 15 year old William lived in Shackelford county in 1880. He worked as a ranch hand and was working with cattle for David Cullum.

William married (1) Nannie A. Thames before 1891. She was born February 1874 in Texas. William and Nannie A. Crowder lived in Stonewall County, Texas by 1900. She most likely died in that county before 1910 as William was listed as a widower in the 1910 Stonewall County, Texas census.

Children of WILLIAM CROWDER and NANNIE THAMES are:

  1. Thomas G. Crowder was born March 1891. I was unable to find Thomas in census after 1910 when the family lived in Stonewall County, Texas.
     
     
  2. Prudie Beatrice Crowder was born July 1893 and died 12 May 1961 in Dallas County, Texas. She married James Robert Scott before 1912. I have also seen him listed as W. R. Scott in an obituary. No other information at this time.
     
     
  3. Frank David "Bally" Crowder was born 15 March 1895 in Stonewall County, Texas (WWI registration card) and died 25 December 1967 in Terry County, Texas. He is buried in Terry County Memorial Cemetery in Terry County, Texas (Section: F, Row: 8). F. D. Crowder married Mrs. Jennie Belle Davis 06 February 1943 by William Avery Rogers, an ordained Baptist minister, on 06 February 1943 in Terry County, Texas (Vol:4, p. 526). Jennie was born 23 January 1904, her last payment from Social Security was sent to Brownfield, Terry County but she died 24 January 1985 in Gaines County, Texas (Texas Death Index, 1903-2000). She is buried in Terry County Memorial Cemetery in Terry County, Texas (Block 3, Lot 9, space 2)
     
     
  4. William L . Crowder was born 03 January 1897 in Aspermont, Hall County, Texas and died 04 June 1955 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Potter County, Texas. He is buried in North Fairview Cemetery in Hall County, Texas - Plot: 603 3. William's Death Certificate documents his mother as Nannie Thames. William married Edna T. Fowler before 1921. She was born 19 January 1901, died 12 October 1990 in Montague County, Texas and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Hall County, Texas. Their son, Glen Tress Crowder, is buried there as well.
     
     
  5. Donnie Ernest Crowder was born 24 June 1899 in Texas (WWI registration card) and died 17 March 1960. He married Edna Gideon by 1930. She was born 04 August 1901 in Texas and died 06 January 1985 in Palo Pinto County, Texas. They are buried in Lubbock Cemetery, Lubbock County, Texas.
     
     
  6. Herbert L. Crowder was born 06 May 1903 in Texas, died 27 October 1965 in Terry County, Texas and is buried in Terry County Memorial Cemetery in Terry County, Texas (Section F). He married Martha Florence Gorman 26 February 1927 by A. L. Burnett, Minister of Gospel, in Terry County, Texas (Vol:2, p. 195) . She was born 20 November 1905 in Texas and died 24 November 1999 in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas
     
     
  7. Homer Allen "Joe" Crowder was born 05 December 1906 and died 12 June 1958 in Dallas County, Texas, He married Lois Marie Cravens before 06 December 1930 (Tombstone). She was born 17 September 1910 and died in a car accident on 30 January 1991 in Lubbock County, Texas. They are buried in Terry County Memorial Cemetery in Terry County, Texas. (Section F, Row 8)

William Smith Crowder married (2) Mrs. Nannie Zelma (Oliver) Fowler 06 November 1910 in Stonewall County, Texas (Vol: 2, p. 49). Nannie Zelma was the daughter of John and Mary (Stoveall) Oliver. She was born 05 November 1876 in Lyon County, Kentucky.

William Smith Crowder had been at 617 Cleveland Street in Memphis for 7 days when he died 23 June 1949 in Memphis, Hall County, Texas (Vol: 3, p. 31). His usual residence was listed as Brownfield, Terry County, Texas. The cause of death uremia due to senility. Mrs. W. S. Crowder was the informant on his death certificate. She knew Green H. Crowder was his father but did not know his mother's name.

Nannie Zelma Crowder died 12 February 1969 in Memphis, Hall County, Texas (Vol: 5, p. 277). According to her Death Certificate, Nannie had lived in Memphis 20 years, she was widowed and a homemaker in her own home. She had arteriosclorotic heart disease for 24 years. The informant on this record was her son, A. J. Fowler.

William and Nannie Zelma (Oliver) Crowder are buried in the Lakeview Cemetery in Hall County, Texas
