The financial operations of the New Home Cemetery depend entirely on donations. Donations can be made by check payable to the New Home Cemetery and mailed to P.O. Box 219, Locust Grove, Oklahoma 74352. The New Home Cemetery is located 1 1/2 miles south of Peggs on County Road N4440, also known as the Lost City/Hulbert Road.
I'm Lloyd Ray Timmons. My family members were among the first buried in the New Home Cemetery which was started on Timmons property and include my great grandfather Benjamin Curlee Timmons and my great, great grandfather Daniel BG Timmons, born 1827 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, died in 1900 in Peggs, Tahlequah District, Cherokee Nation. My grandfather Charles Henry Timmons and my father Boyd Louie Timmons were born on the Timmons Family Farm two miles southwest of Peggs on Clear Creek.
The 1st verified burial in the New Home Cemetery was Simmy Young on Sep 8, 1898. He was born on Jan 24, 1883. He was the son of Thomas Jacob Young Sr. & Sarah Elizabeth Musgrave. He was the brother of James Anderson Young, husband of Linnie Laura Timmons. He was buried in the yard of the home of Isaac Timmons & his full blood Cherokee wife Susan Fawling Smith. The house no longer exist. Isaac Timmons is the older brother of my great great grandpa, Daniel BG Timmons who lived on Clear Creek, one mile west as the crow flies, of the Isaac & Susan Timmons home and the original site of the New Home Cemetery.
The 2nd verified burial in the New Home Cemetery was Millie Elizabeth Young on Nov 24, 1898. She was born on Sep 18, 1818 in Morgan County, Alabama. She was the daughter of John G. Young & Millie Ann Thompson. She married James Anderson Musgrave on Feb 25, 1838 and was the mother-in-law of Daniel BG Timmons.
The 3rd verified burial was Irene J. Wilkerson on Jan 16, 1900. She was born on Oct 10, 1879 in Peggs, Talequah District, Cherokee Nation. She was the daughter of John T. Wilkerson & Rebecca Oglesby. She was the sister of George W. Wilkerson, the husband of Ida R. Timmons, the granddaughter of Isaac Timmons.
The 4th verified burial was Irene John T. Wilkerson on Mar 23, 1900. He was born on Mar 22, 1842 in the Going Snake District, Cherokee Nation. He was the son of George Wilkerson & Susan Poorbear, the father of George W. & Irene J. and father-in-law of Ida R. Timmons.
The 5th verified burial was my great great grandpa, Daniel BG Timmons on Aug 30, 1900. He was born in 1827 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was the son of John Timmons & Temperance Stafford and the father of my great grandpa, Benjamin Curlee Timmons who was buried in the New Home Cemetery in 1925.
Dec 10, 2003, The baby of George Washington Mainard & Margaret Beatrice Clover that William Claude Timmons mentioned as the 2nd burial in the New Home Cemetery is actually the 6th burial. He is Henry Mainard born 1897 and died in 1900.
Isaac Timmons was buried there in the yard of his home in 1910. He was born in 1920 in Spartanburg, SC. The son of John Timmons & Temperance Stafford and the older brother of my great great grandpa, Daniel BG Timmons.
According to an interview for the Indian Pioneer History Project on June 28, 1937 by William Claude Timmons, his father Silas Jerry Timmons Sr., and his grandfather Isaac Timmons farmed 40 acres that included the land where the New Home Cemetery is located and the first burials there were a baby girl of Silas Jerry Timmons Sr & Sarah Elizabeth Stewart, a baby of George Washington Mainard & Margaret Beatrice Clover, a baby of James White Wilkerson & Martha Gass, and a 10 year old son of DR. Estes and in that order. I don't know who Docter Estes was yet. I have not found these graves and they may be unmarked. William Claude Timmons married Alice Cagle the daughter of Andrew Jackson Cagle & Martha Gholston. Isaac Timmons is a brother of my great, great grandfather Daniel BG Timmons who lived about one miles west of the New Home Cemetery as the crow flies. The Daniel BG Timmons farm was on north side of Clear Creek on the east side of the road. The house no longer exist. In 1881 the Isaac Timmons family moved on the Jesse Sixkiller place which later became the Wilkerson farm about a mile north of the Daniel BG Timmons farm. In 1885 they moved to the Bob Johnson place and future site of the New Home Cemetery. The James Wilkerson house was destroyed in the Cyclone on May 2, 1920. In 1925 Benjamin Calvin Neel bought the site and built a new house.
