Travis Family

I trace my Travis family back to Sylvanus TRAVIS and Hannah RANDALL, parents of Stephen Travis. They and their descendants lived in the Finger Lakes region of New York State from the late 1700s to the present.

My Dad went to Bath, NY 4/2001 to look up Sylvanus TRAVIS. He found some records, also for KELLY and WIXON

The Two Sylvanus Travises. I can’t vouch for this, but it is very intriguing

Stephen TRAVIS Bible – Births 1 | Births 2 | Deaths | Marriages | Transcript | Here is an odd scrap of paper that somebody thought was important enough to save in the bible. It is a list of names. These people may not have all been related, but they certainly knew each other. Front | Back

John Smith Travis (more), son of above Stephen and Christianne (SMITH) TRAVIS. He lived in Enfield, NY and then Ovid Centre, Seneca County, NY, on what is now Wyckoff Rd. He married Jane NOBLES, daughter of Squire J. NOBLES and Hannah RUMSEY, of Enfield, NY.

His son Don Smith TRAVIS lived his life on that farm in Ovid (Pictures: 1 | 2 | 3). He married Ada Jane BROKAW (her parents). This is Don’s 1876 Diary: Transcript, Images He played fiddle in a band for many years (see diary). We still have his trumpet with some playbills. Here is the Interlaken Miller Band in 1908; I think Don might be seated to the left of the standing man.
