James Tinlin.  Probably married his first wife in the 1690’s [calc.].  Living in Nether Ancrum, Roxburghshire in Feb 1721 [reg. (time of son’s marriage)].  He is probably the James Tinlin, “widdow”, who married Agnas Kirtoun on 10 Dec 1721 in Ancrum [reg. – second proclamation].  At the time, he was living in Ancrum and she was living in Eckford, Roxburghshire [reg.].  Children by 1st wife: John.  [A Thomas Tinling was living in Nether Ancrum before 1711].

 

James Tindling.  Chr. 4 Feb 1692 in Norham Parish, Northumberland, son of James [and Ann (Donaldson)] Tindling [reg.].  He married Isabel (or Isabella) Ogle on 3 May 1716 in Norham Parish [IGI].  He was bur. on 7 Mar 1743 in Norham Parish  [reg.].  Probably the James Tinlin who left an administration dated 1743 [MP].  She was bur. on 9 Oct 1746 in Norham Parish [reg.].  At the time of their deaths, both had been living in Norham, Norham Parish [reg.].

 

James Tinline.  Born 1700 in Ancrum, Roxburghshire, son of George Tinline [LK].  Living at Old English Farms in Ancrum c. 1715 [LK].  Children: George.  [Found none of this in the original Ancrum registers].

James Tinling.  Born c. 1705 in Arthuret Parish, Cumberland, son of James and Margaret Tinling [father’s will, IGI].  As James Tinning, he married Mary Blackurn on 2 Dec 1738 in Arthuret Parish, Cumberland [reg.].  At the time of their marriage, he was living in Easton, she was living in Laws [reg.].  He was a churchwarden in Arthuret Parish in 1740-41, and in 1741-42 (the latter under the name James Tining) [reg.].  Living in Easton, Arthuret Parish in Jan 1740, and in Chapeltown, Arthuret Parish in May 1742, Aug 1744 [IGI].  She was bur. on 10 Dec 1746 in Arthuret Parish, when her residence had been Chapeltown [reg.].  Children: Margaret, Mary, James.

 

James Tinline.  Chr. 3 Aug 1728 in Ancrum, Roxburghshire, son of John and Hellen (Wilkie) Tinline [reg.].  He married Ann White on 28 Oct 1759 in Ancrum [reg.].  Living in Haustains, Ancrum in Aug 1760, Apr 1762, in Roxburgh, Roxburghshire in Jul 1766, Dec 1768, May 1771, Jun 1773 and in Nisbet, Crailing, Roxburghshire in Dec 1775, Jul 1778, Oct 1784 [SCR, reg.].  Children: John, Christian, Helen, William, Ann, Richard, George, Walter, Mark.

 

James Tinling.  Chr. 26 Aug 1744 in Arthuret Parish, Cumberland, son of James and Mary (Blackurn) Tinling [IGI under Tinning].

 

James Tinling.  He married Mary Smith on 26 Jul 1772 in St. Mary’s, Carlisle, Cumberland [reg. as Tinning].  At the time of their marriage, they were both living in Carlisle [reg.].  They were living in Rickergate, St. Mary’s, Carlisle in Jul 1774, Dec 1775, Apr 1777, Oct 1777, Nov 1778, Nov 1779, Apr 1787 [reg.].  He was a shoemaker [reg.].  Children: Ann, Jane, David, Hugh Edward, Mary, James (twin), John (twin) (2nd), Richard.  [His name is normally spelled Tinning, and this is how he wrote it himself.]

 

James Tinline.  Chr. 18 Jun 1753 in Ancrum, Roxburghshire, son of George and Isabella (White) Tinline [reg.].  He married Elisabeth (Betty) Hunter on 29 Nov 1777 in Ancrum [reg. 1779?].  They were living in Ancrum in Mar 1779, when he was a servant in Howden and a householder in Harestains, and in May 1781 when he was a householder in Howden [reg.].  They were living in Broomhouse, Maxton, Roxburghshire in May 1783 to Nov 1794, when he was working as a hind [reg.].  He died at Broadhouse on 2 Jan 1801 and was bur. in Ancrum [MCK (MI)].  She died 25 Apr 1813 and was bur. in Ancrum [MCK (MI)].  However, this source said he was age 75 at his death (i.e. born c. 1726) and she was age 83 (i.e. born c. 1745).  Either this is incorrect, or there was an earlier couple of exactly the same name in Ancrum.  Children: Margaret, Isabel, George, William, Andrew, Elizabeth, John, Margaret (2nd), James.

 

James Tinling.  Chr. 25 Feb 1754 in St. Sepulchre, London, son of Nathaniel and Susannah (Murton) Tinling [IGI under Tinley].

 

James Tinlin.  Born 28 Aug 1766 in Roxburghshire, probably son of James and Ann (White) Tinlin(e) [RLC, GP (tombstone would suggest 1764)].  He married Ann Brander on 28 Aug 1790 in Elgin, Moray [RLC, OCFA, IGI under Tenlene].  She was born 12 May 1771, and was said to be the niece of “Sir William Kay, onetime mayor of London” [RLC, but Sir William was never mayor of London, his uncle Sir Brook Watson was, but the latter’s will does not mention any siblings who could be a parent of Ann].  Arrived in Albany, New York from Scotland in 1795 [corr.].  He was a resident alien in New York State in 1795 [P&I 1982-5, Vol. 3].  They were living in Harlem, New York in 1800 [RLC].  A James Tenland was living in New York Co., New York in 1800, was married, with 3 sons and 2 daughters [cen.].  A James Tinlin applied for American citizenship in Nov 1805, at which time his residence was Seneca, Ontario Co., New York [doc.].  They were living in Niagara Peninsula, Ontario in Oct 1808, Jul 1814 [chr. record].  At one time they lived in Louth Co., Ontario [RLC]. In 1821 they were living in Trafalgar, Ontario [land rec.].  He died 4 Jun 1840, age 76 [GP].  She died 10 Apr 1841, age 70 [GP].  They were bur. in Binbrook United Cemetery, Wentworth Co., Ontario [OCFA, GP].  Children: James, William, Ann, Margaret, John, Elizabeth, Brook, Ellen.

 

James Tinlin.  Born 2 May 1774 in Kirkwhelpington, Northumberland, son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Rutherford) Tinlin [IGI].  Chr. at Great Bavington Presbyterian Church, Northumberland [reg.].  He married Ann Rutter on 7 Jun 1795 in Kirkwhelpington [reg.].  They were Presbyterians and lived in Kirkwhelpington [reg.].  He died in Mar 1823, age 79, when his abode was Whelpington, and was bur. 30 Apr 1828 in Kirkwhelpington [reg.].  She was probably the Ann Tinling, age 65, born in Northumberland, living as an independent in Kirkwhelpington in 1841 [cen.].  Children: Catherine, Ann, Thomas, Esther, James, Elizabeth, Jane.  [Obviously something incorrect with his death information.]

 

James Tinline.  Married (?) Catherine Easton [WRT].  She was chr. 15 Nov 1777 in Maxton, Roxburghshire, daughter of William and Helen (Grieve) Easton [WRT, IGI as Kathrin].  In Feb 1813 they were living in Maxton, Roxburghshire and he was working as a wright [reg.].  He died c. 1824 [WRT].  She was living in Pinnacle, Ancrum in 1841 [cen.].  There was a charge made on 8 Jun 1840 in the Ancrum parish church book for a mortcloth for the Widow Tinlin of Pinnacle [reg.].  Children: James.

 

James Tinline.  Chr. 3 Feb 1788 in Eckford, Roxburghshire, son of John and Elizabeth (King) Tinline [reg.].  He married Jean Johnston on 3 Apr 1810 in Edinburgh [reg. trans. of Melrose].  They presented their marriage certificate to the congregation in Melrose on 22 Apr 1810 [reg. trans.].  She was born c. 1789, daughter of James and Margaret (Forsythe) Johnston [her death cert.].  They were living in Ladykirk, Berwickshire in Mar 1814, and in Edinburgh in Nov 1815, c. 1818, and c. 1828 [cen., SCR]. He worked as a coachman [children’s death certs.].  He died 22 Aug 1855 at 17 Veitches Square, Edinburgh, age 68, and was bur. in Warriston Cemetery [cert.]. He had had an accident eighteen months before his death which was one of the causes, and he was listed as a pauper [cert.].  She died 12 Feb 1871 at 10 Bakers Place, St. George District, Edinburgh, age 82 [cert.].  Children: Margaret, John, James, Elizabeth, Jane, Isabella, William, Ann, Janet, Johnston.

 

James Tinling.  Chr. 12 Jul 1788 in St. Mary’s, Carlisle, Cumberland, son of James and Mary (Smith) Tinling [IGI as Tinning].  He was christened the same day as his brother John, so they may have been twins.

 

James Tinlin(e).  Chr. 20 Jul 1788 in Ancrum, Roxburghshire, son of George and Margaret (Nichol) Tinlin [reg.].  He married Jane Lough on 25 Feb 1815 in Corbridge, Northumberland [reg. trans.].  At the time of their marriage, they were both living in Corbridge Parish [reg. trans.]. They were living in Corbridge through at least 1833, but were living in Halton, Northumberland in Sep 1815 [reg. trans., LK].  He was a joiner [reg. trans.].  She is probably the Jane Tinline who died 3rd quarter 1855 in Hexham District [CR].  He is probably the James Tinline who died 3rd quarter 1865 in Hexham District (Northumberland) [CR].  Children: Sarah, George, James, John, Edward, William, Thomas.

 

James Tinlin.  Chr. 29 May 1791 in Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, son of John and Elspeth (Walker) Tinlin [SCR]. 

 

James Tinline.  Born c. 1791-96 in Roxburghshire [cen.].  He married Hannah Chapman on 11 Oct 1812 in Ancrum, Roxburghshire [reg.].  At the time of their marriage they were both living in Ancrum [reg.].  She was born c. 1795 in Ednam, Roxburghshire [cen.].  They were living in Morebattle, Roxburghshire in Oct 1820, Mar 1822, Jun 1824, Jun 1826, Oct 1829, Dec 1832, May 1835, Apr 1836 [SCR].  In 1841 they were living in Morebattle, and he was working as a labourer [cen.].  He died before 1851 [cen.].  She was living in Morebattle, a widow, in 1851 [cen.]. Children: Susan, John, William, Janet, James D., Andrew, Anne.

 

James Tinlin.  Born 18 Jun 1791 in Scotland, son of James and Ann (Brander) Tinlin [RLC, son’s mar. cert.].  He married Margaret Coon on 31 Oct 1817 in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario [Internet, AF, RLC, cen.].  She was born 11 Apr 1797 in Ontario, daughter of John “Stephen” and Phoebe (Carpenter) Coon [cen., LFH].  At the time of their marriage, he lived in Niagara and she lived in Louth [Internet].  They were living in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario in 1822, in Trafalgar in 1825-26, then again in Louth in 1826-1828, 1871 [cen., chr. record, land recs.].  In 1851 they were living in Louth and he was working as a carpenter [cen.].  She died 7 Mar 1874 in Louth, Ontario [ODR].  He died 17 Jul 1879 in Louth, Ontario [ODR].  Children: James, Caroline B., William Stephen, Phoebe, Annie, John, George M.

 

James Tinling.  Son of Maj.-Gen. Isaac Pattison and Mary Ann (Adeane) Tinling [NH]. He died young [NH].

 

James Tinling.  Born c. 1795 [calc.].  He was bur. 24 May 1813 in St. Peter, Yaxley, Huntingdonshire, age 17 [FHO].

 

James Tinline.  Son of James and Elizabeth (Hunter) Tinline [MCK (MI)].  He died at age 27, and was bur. with his parents in Ancrum, Roxburghshire [MCK (MI)].

 

James Tinling.  In 1822 he was a groom in the service of T. Richardson, Esq., Kent Road, London [London Times, 24 Aug 1822, pg. 3].  He stabbed one of his master’s horses and was sent to jail for two months [Times].  The Times called him “a brutal fellow”.

 

James Tinlin.  Born 7 Sep 1804 in Kirkwhelpington, Northumberland, son of James and Ann (Rutter) Tinlin [reg.].  He married Mary Watson on 18 Jun 1836 in Kirkwhelpington [reg.].  They both lived in Kirkwhelpington at the time of their marriage [reg.].  She was born 14 May 1809 in Kirkwhelpington, daughter of Joseph and Ann (Watson) Watson [cen., IGI].  In 1839 they were living in Kirkwhelpington and he was working as a husbandman [reg.].  In 1841 they were living at Knowesgate, Kirkwhelpington and Mary was the gatekeeper; James worked as an agricultural laborer [cen.].  In 1844 they were living in Kirkwhelpington and he was working as a husbandman [reg.].  They were still living in Knowes in 1871, when he was working as a labourer [cen.].  She died in Jun 1875, age 66, when her abode was Kirkwhelpington, and was bur. 18 Jun 1875 in Kirkwhelpington [CR, reg.].  He was living in Kirkwhelpington in 1881, when his occupation was listed as general laborer [cen.].  He died 1st quarter 1888 in Morpeth District (Northumberland), age 83 [CR].  Children: Margaret, James, Jane.

James Tinlin(e).  Born 6 Sep 1812 in Maxton, Roxburghshire, (natural?) son of James and Catherine (Easton) Tinline [reg.].  Chr. 19 Feb 1813 in Maxton [reg.].  In 1841 he was living with his mother in Pinnacle, Ancrum, working as an agricultural laborer [cen.].  He married Janet Scott on 11 Jun 1841 in Jedburgh and in Melrose, Roxburghshire [SCR, WRT].  She was born in Ancrum, Roxburghshire, and chr. there 26 May 1816, daughter of George (and Margaret Sibbold?) Scott [IGI, cen. says born c. 1820].  They were living in Ancrum c. 1842-1846 [cen.].  In 1851 they were living in Weaselton, Jedburgh, and he was working as an agricultural laborer [cen.]. They were living in Eckford, Roxburghshire in Dec 1855, Nov 1857, and in Maxton in Jun 1860 [IGI].  In 1861 they were living in Riddlelowhill [Riddletonhill ?], Maxton and he was working as a ploughman [cen.].  They emigrated to the United States on the Ship “Wisconsin” from Liverpool, landing in New York on 10 Jul 1863 [Anc.].  They settled in Scroggsfield, Ohio [WRT].  They were living in Fox Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio in Jul 1870, and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  They were living in Fox Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio in Jun 1880, and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  She died 14 Jul 1880 in Lee Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio [VR].  He died 26 Oct 1890 [CRM, not in VR].  They were both bur. in Scroggsfield [WRT]. James Tinlin.  Born 13 Feb 1814 at the Wallington Broomhouse, Kirkwhelpington (or Hartburn?), Northumberland, son of William and Elizabeth (Yellowley) Tinlin [reg., census].  He was baptised 20 Feb 1814 at the Great Bavington Presbyterian Church, Northumberland [reg.].  He may have been married a first time, or had a natural daughter in Bedlington c. 1847 [cen.].  He married  Isabella Brodie in 2nd quarter 1853 in St. Andrew, Newcastle-upon-Tyne [CR, NRO, both under Tinling, census].  She was born c. 1817 in Elsdon, Northumberland and chr. 20 Jan 1818 at Birdhope Craig, Northumberland, daughter of Michael and Ann Brodie [cen., IGI].  They were living in Belsay, Northumberland in Feb 1856, Dec 1857, and in Helchesterland, Northumberland in Oct 1859 [reg.].  He was a laborer [reg.].  In 1861 they were living in Kirkwhelpington [cen.]. In 1871 they were living in Black Callerton, Northumberland, and he was working as an agricultural labourer [cen.].  In 1881 they were living in Black Callerton, and he was working as a roadman laborer [cen.].  She is probably the Isabella Tindle who died in 3rd quarter 1885 in Castle Ward District (Northumberland), age 67 [CR].  He died 4th quarter 1885 in Castle Ward District (Northumberland), age 71 [CR].  She apparently died before 1891 [cen.].  Children by ?: Margaret.  Children by Isabella Brodie: Edmund, Michael, Michael Brodie.

Valley Cemetery, Walton Co., Florida [Internet].  [Another source calls him John Tinline, see under that name.]

James Tinlin.  Born c. 1816 in Eddleston, Peebleshire (or in St. Boswells, Roxburghshire - 1851 cen), son of John and Janet (Laurie) Tinline  [cen., corr.].   In 1841 he was living with his mother in Kirk Yetholm, Roxburghshire, and was working as an agricultural laborer [cen.].   He married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Jackson on 26 Nov 1850 in St. Boswells, Roxburghshire and in Sprouston, Roxburghshire [cen., SCR, reg.].  She was chr. 6 Jul 1828 in Paisley, Renfrewshire, daughter of Robert and Christian (Finnie) Jackson [cen., death cert., IGI].  At the time of their marriage, he was living in St. Boswells and was a laborer, she was living in Banffmill [reg.].  In 1851 they were living in Weirgate Mains, Lessudden, St. Boswells and he was working as an agricultural laborer [cen.].  Living in St. Boswells in Feb 1852, Feb 1854, Nov 1856, Apr 1860, May 1862, Sep 1864 [SCR, IGI].  In 1861 they were living in Lessudden, St. Boswells, and he was working as an agricultural labourer [cen.].  In 1871 they were living in Lessudden, St. Boswells, and he was working as a gardener [cen.].   In 1881 and 1891 they were living in St. Boswells, Roxburghshire and he was working as a gardener [cen.].  He died in 1898 in St. Boswells, age 85 [SCVL].  She died 27 Feb 1903 at 56 West Bowling Green Street, Leith, Edinburgh, age 76 [cert.].  Children: Christina, Janet, John, Mary, Robert Jackson, James.

 

James Tinlin.  Born c. 1819 in Bedlington, Northumberland, son of Thomas and Isabella (Richardson) Tinlin [cen., marr. cert.].  He married Ann(e) Walton on 23 May 1847 at St. Mary’s Church, Gateshead, Durham [cert., cen.].  She was born c. 1822 in Middleton-in-Teesdale, Durham, daughter of Miles Walton, a miner [cen., marr. cert.].  At the time of their marriage, he was working as a cooper, and they were both residing at Bottle Bank [cert.].  They were living at Mulgrave Terrace, Gateshead, Durham in Oct 1854 [father’s death cert.].  In 1871 they were living in Westgate, Northumberland, and he was working as a cooper [cen. as “Mr. John Tinlin”].  They were listed at St. Mary Magdalene Hospital in St. Andrew’s, Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1881, and his occupation was “late cooper” [cen.].  He died 3rd quarter 1888 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, age 70 [CR under Tinling].

In 1891 he was living with his sister Sarah in Headington and Burley, Yorkshire, “living on own means”, and was single [cen.].  He died 1st quarter 1895 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, age 75 [CR].


 

James Tinlin.  Born c. 1821 in Ontario, son of James and Margaret (Coon) Tinlin [cen.].  In 1851 he was living with his parents in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario, working as a farmer, and was unmarried [cen.].  He married Elizabeth A. ______ [cen.].  She was born c. 1830 in the United States [cen.].  He (or his father) was working as an innkeeper in Jordan, Louth in 1857 [Directory of Ontario]. In 1871, 1876 and 1881 they were living in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario and he was working as a farmer [Central Canadians, cen.].  He is apparently the James Tinline, retired merchant, who died 11 Dec 1893 in Louth Twp., age 72 [cert.].  They are probably the James and Elizabeth Tinlin bur. in Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines, Lincoln Co., Ontario [OCFA].  [Her name may have been Elizabeth A. Carter before marriage].

Jane Tinlin.  Born 1822-26 in Roxburghshire, daughter of John and Janet (Hume) Tinlin [JT, death cert.].  In 1841 she was living with her father in Linton Bankhead, Roxburghshire [cen.].  She married William Robson (banns in Linton, Roxburghshire on 19 and 26 May 1844) on 31 May 1844 in Morebattle, Roxburghshire [reg., SCR].  At the time of their marriage, he was residing in Eckford, Roxburghshire and she was residing in Linton Bankhead [reg.].  They were living in Linton in 1845 and in Morebattle from 1845-61 [SCR].  He was a farm servant and predeceased her [her death cert.].  She died 11 Jun 1902 at 36 Lutton Place, Edinburgh, age 79 [cert.].

Jane Tinlin.  Born c. 1846 in Linton, Roxburghshire, daughter of Thomas and Beatrice Ann (Wilson) Tinlin [cen.].  In 1851 she was living with her parents in Rutherford, Maxton, Roxburghshire [cen.].  In 1861 she was living in Ancrum, Roxburghshire working as a domestic servant in the home of Andrew Grieve [cen.].  In Feb 1864 she had a natural child by an unknown father, when she was living at Chester Grange, Ancrum, working as an outdoor servant [cert., witnessed by “Thomas Strachan, Uncle, Croft House”].  She married Andrew Galbraith on 31 Mar 1871 in Corsbie, Legerwood, Berwickshire [cert.].  Previous to their marriage, he was living in Bassendean, Westruther Parish, working as an agricultural laborer, and she was living in Corsbie, Legerwood Parish, working as a domestic servant [daughter’s birth cert.].  He was born c. 1849, son of John and Sophia (Gill) Galbraith [marr. cert.].  At the time of their marriage, he was living in Bassendean, Westruther Parish, working as an agricultural labourer and she was living in Corsbie, Legerwood Parish, working as a domestic servant [cert.].  Natural child: Alison (Alice).

Ostrander on 20 May 1879 in Yarmouth District, Ontario [RLC, OMR].  He was born 11 Feb 1854 in Yarmouth, Ontario [RLC].  In 1881 they were living in Malahide, East Elgin Co., and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  She died 12 Feb 1889 and was bur. in Orwell Cemetery, Yarmouth, Elgin Co., Ontario [OGS].  He died 1 Jul 1932 [RLC].

Janet (Jessie) Tinlin.  Born 3 Sep 1870 in Mertoun, Berwickshire, daughter of John William and Margaret (Fairbairn) Tinlin [JT, SCR, IGI].  She died 9 Feb 1879 at Lochend, Melrose, age 8, from typhoid fever [cert.].

Cottage, Kirktown [cen.].  In 1881 she was living with her mother in Kirktown [cen.].  She married James Graham McCallum on 17 Apr 1891 at 8 Lothian Street, Hawick, Roxburghshire [cert.].  He was born c. 1870, son of William and Janet (Graham) McCallum [marr. cert.].  At the time of their marriage, he was living at 23 Wellgate Place, Hawick, working as a journeyman baker, and she was living at 8 Lothian Street, Hawick, working as a bobbin machine winder [cert.].  She died in 1919 in Hawick District, Roxburghshire, age 49 [SCVL].

James and Alexandrina Ogilvie (Auld) Vetch, and was a Colonel of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers [DNB, Times obit., Who’s Who].  They lived in India, Ceylon, and Dublin [TF].  He died on 12 Mar 1910 at their residence, 1 Hyde Park Gate, London, age 65 [London Times, 15 Mar 1910, pg. 1 and 15].  She died of a heart attack on 18 Oct 1926 at 1 Hyde Park Gate, London and was bur. on 22 Oct 1926 in Highgate Cemetery, London [London Times, 20 Oct 1926, pg. 1; 21 Oct 1926, pg. 1 and 16; 22 Oct 1926, pg. 1].
