Margaret Tinlin.  Born 15 May 1799, daughter of James and Ann (Brander) Tinlin [RLC].  She married James Gregory [RLC].  They do not appear to be listed in the 1871 census index.

 

Margaret Tinling.  Married William Brown on the Saturday before 12 Oct 1822 in Kirklinton, Cumberland [CP (12 Oct was a Saturday, so 5 Oct?)].  At the time of their marriage, he was living in Skitbrightby, and she was living at the Lake, Kirklinton [CP].

 

Margaret Tinlin.  Born 14 Oct 1805 in Scotland [SB].  Apparently a sister of the John Tinlin(e) who married Margaret Wright.  She married Thomas Bell on 29 May 1834 in Kelso, Roxburghshire [reg.].  He was born 15 Oct 1809 in Lilliesleaf, Roxburghshire [SB, Internet].  At the time of their marriage, they were both living in Kelso Parish [reg.].  He was working as a blacksmith at Maseridge [Mauridge?], and she was a servant [reg.].   Andrew Tinlin was a witness at their marriage [reg.].  They emigrated to the U.S. shortly after their marriage, settling first in Vermont, then in North Argyle, Washington Co., New York [SB].  Not listed in Vermont or New York in 1840 [cen.]. He died in North Argyle in 1848 [SB].  She was living there in 1850 [cen.].  She died 1 Jun 1878 [SB].

 

Margaret Tinline.  Born 12 Aug 1806 in Roxburgh, Roxburghshire, daughter of George and Alison (Murray) Tinline [SCR, death cert.].  She married Alexander White on 17 Dec 1835 in St. Cuthbert’s, Edinburgh [SCR].  He was a coachman [her death cert.].  They were living in St. Cuthbert’s in 1836-42 [SCR].  She died 13 Aug 1872 at No. 14, Bristo Street, Edinburgh, age 66 [cert.].  Her husband survived her [her death cert.].

 

Margaret Tinlin.  Born c. 1813, daughter of James and Jean (Johnston) Tinlin [her death cert., father’s death cert. says born c. 1808, but that is incorrect].   She was a housekeeper [death cert.].  She died unmarried the night of 1-2 Jan 1877 at the Cottage, Fairlie, Largs, Ayrshire, age 63 [cert.].  [Death certificate has a note saying to see correction in different register, which I have not seen.]

 

Margaret Tinline.  Born 11 Mar 1815 in Wilton, Roxburghshire, daughter of Richard and Isabel (Oliver) Tinline [SCR, 1901 cen. says 1816].  She immigrated to Canada in 1834 [cen.].  She married Isaiah Wardell c. 1834 [JD].  He was born c. 1804 in Smithville, Lincoln Co., Ontario, the son of Isaac and Mary (Griffin) Wardell and had been previously married to Elizabeth Tinline Culp (see under Elizabeth Tinline) [JD].  In 1851 they were living in Grimsby Township, Lincoln Co., Ontario [JD].  In 1871 they were living in Canborough, Monck Co., Ontario, and he was working as a farmer [cen. index].  In 1881 they were living in Canborough, and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  He died 23 Jul 1895 in Dunnville, Haldimand-Norfolk Co., Ontario, and was bur. there [JD].  In 1901 she was living in Darling Road, Canborough, Monck Co., Ontario with her daughter Martha [cen.].  She died 30 Apr 1905, age 89, bur. in Dunnville [JD].

 

Margaret Tinline.  Born c. 1817-9 in Bowden, Roxburghshire, daughter of William and Margaret (McDonald) Tinline [cen., 1881 says c. 1824].  In 1841 she was living with her parents in Bowden, Roxburghshire [cen.].  She married Alexander Scott on 20 Jul 1847 in Melrose [SCR, her death cert.].  He was born c. 1827 in Ancrum, Roxburghshire [cen.].  He was a labourer [her death cert.].  They were living in Maxton, Roxburghshire in 1857 [IGI].  In 1881 they were living in Melrose, Selkirkshire, and he was working as a lab skinner [sic] [cen.].  She died on 13 Jan 1886 at 108 Haliburton Place, Ladhope, Selkirkshire [cert.].  He survived her [her death cert.].

Margaret Tinlin.  Apparently a daughter of George and Janet (Bryden) Tinlin [cen.].  She married William Armstrong on 22 May 1848 in Sprouston, Roxburghshire [reg.].  At the time of their marriage, she resided in Lurdonlaw [?], Sprouston, and he resided in Gla [?] Loftlaw, Sprouston [reg.].  In 1901, Isabel Tinlin (daughter of George and Janet (Bryden) Tinlin) was living with a Margaret Armstrong, her niece [cen.].

Margaret Tinline.  Born 24 Nov 1833 in Peebles, Peebleshire, daughter of James and Isabella (Turnbull) Tinline [SCR].  She married Robert Veitch on 25 Dec 1857 in Traquair, Peebleshire [IGI, SCVL].  He was born c. 1831 in Peebles [cen.].  He was present at the death of his father-in-law James Tinline in Jan 1867 in Traquair [cert.].  She died 21 Jan 1881 in Elcho Street, Peebles, age 47 [cert.].  In 1881 he was living in Peebles, a widower, working as a mason [cen.].

Margaret Tinling.  Born c. 1847 in Bedlington or Heatherwick, Northumberland, apparently daughter of James Tinlin(g) [cen.].  She married Robert Alexander in Tynemouth District (Northumberland) in 3rd quarter 1867 [CR].  He was born c. 1841 in Bedlington or Choppington, Northumberland [cen.].  In 1871, 1881 and 1891 they were living in Cramlington, Northumberland, and he was working as a tailor [cen.].  In 1901 he was living without her in Cramlington, working as a tailor’s cutter, so she may have died before this date [cen.].

 

Margaret Tinline.  Born 1st quarter 1852 in Corbridge, Northumberland, daughter of George and Margaret (Brown) Tinline [CR, cen., 16 May 1852 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne per LK].  In 1871 she was living with her parents in Elswick, Northumberland [cen.].  She married 1st John Jeffrey in 1st quarter 1878 in Gateshead District (Durham) [CR].  He died before 1881 [cen.].  In 1881 she was living in Benwell, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, a widow [cen.].  She married 2nd Henry Purvis in 1st quarter 1886 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne [CR].  He was born c. 1852 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne or Durham, Gateshead [cen.].  In 1891 she was living in Benwell, and was listed as married, but her husband was incarcerated in the District Prison, All Saints, Newcastle [cen.].  At the time, his occupation was listed as steam-engine maker fitter [cen.].  In 1901 they were living in Benwell, and he was working as an engine fitter [cen. (not positive she was with him, have not seen original entry)].  Their family changed their name to Tinline-Purvis.

Davis in 1st quarter 1864 in St. Paul, Elswick, Newcastle-upon-Tyne [CR, NRO].  In 1871 they were living in South Shields, Durham, but she was listed with her parents in Elswick as a mariner’s wife [cen.].  He died before 1881 [cen.].  In 1881 she was living in Westoe, Durham, a widow, working as a grocer [cen.].  In 1891 she was living in Benwell, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, a widow, working as a dressmaker [cen.].

Mary Tinline.  Born 30 Oct 1843 in Bowden, Roxburghshire, daughter of John and Janet (Bell) Tinline [reg.].  In 1851 she was living with her parents in Bowden [cen.].  In 1861 she was living in St. Boswells, Roxburghshire, working as a domestic servant [cen.].  Probably the Mary Tinline who had a natural son, James, in 1862 in Bowden.  In 1871 she was living in High Crop, Melrose, working as a housemaid in the home of Elizabeth Ogilvie, and was unmarried [cen.].  In 1881 she was unmarried and living in Bowden, working as a domestic servant [cen.].    She married James Park on 30 Jun 1882 in Bowden, Roxburghshire [cert.].  He was born c. 1848, son of William and Joan (Storie) Park [cert.].  At the time of their marriage, he was living in Blainslie, Melrose, working as a master blacksmith, and she was living in Bowden, working as a domestic servant [cert.].  An Isabella Tinline was a witness at their marriage [her sister Isabella Jane, using her maiden name?].  She died 8 Apr 1898 in Nether Blainslie, Langshaw, Roxburghshire, age 52 [cert.].  Her husband survived her [her death cert.].

 

Mary Tinlin.  Born 2nd quarter 1846 in Seaham Harbor, Durham, daughter of Robert and Jane (Turnbull) Tinlin [CR, cen.].  In 1851 she was living with her parents in Seaham Harbor [cen.].  In 1861 she was living with her brother Thomas in Seaham Harbour [cen.].  She married John Johnson in 2nd quarter 1866 in Easington District (Durham) [CR as Tinlind, cen.].  He was born c. 1837 in Seaham, Durham [cen.].  Have not located on 1871 census.  In 1881 they were living in Haswell Moor, Easington, and he was working as a coal miner [cen.].  She died before 1891 [cen.].  In 1891 he was living in Hartlepool, Durham, a widower, working as a shipyard laborer [cen.].  Probable natural child: Esther (Tinlin).

Mary Ann(e) Tinling.  Born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and chr. there on 28 Mar 1828, daughter of Thomas and Anne Tinling [cen., IGI].  She married Joseph Dunn Sloan in 3rd quarter 1861 in the Register Office, Newcastle-upon-Tyne [CR, NRO, cen.].  He was born c. 1821-6 in St. John, Newcastle-upon-Tyne [cen.].  He had apparently been previously married [cen.].  In 1871 they were living in All Saints, Newcastle, and he was working as a painter and glazier [cen.].  She died in 1st quarter 1873 in Newcastle, age 46 [CR].  He remarried in 2nd quarter 1876 in Newcastle [CR].  In 1881, he and his son were inmates in the Union Workhouse, Elswick, Northumberland [cen.].  He was listed as married and a painter, but his wife was not with them [cen.].  He cannot be located in 1891, but his son was then an inmate in the Home for the Destitute, All Saints, Newcastle [cen.].

Mary Ann Tinlin.  Born 8 Jan 1838 in Binbrook, Ontario, daughter of Brook and Elizabeth (Betran) Tinlin [cen., RLC].  She married at age 25 (c. 1862) to Ansel Bray [RLC].  He was born 31 Dec 1835 in Dumfries, Ontario, the son of Thomas and Mary Bray [cen., RLC].  She was a schoolteacher [OGS].  In 1871, 1881 and 1901 they were living in Yarmouth, Elgin East Co., Ontario, and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  In May 1946 she was referred to as “the late Mrs. Ansel Bray, Mapleton” [OGS].

She died unmarried on 5 Oct 1943 at 1 Glenlockhart Road, Edinburgh, age 75 [cert.].  At the time of her death, she was a retired domestic cook living at 22 Springwell Place, Edinburgh, with her niece Margaret Lennie [cert.].  Natural child: Alison Margaret.

Mary Augusta Tinling.  Chr. 9 May 1783 in Saint Thomas’, Portsmouth, Hampshire, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Robinson) Tinling [IGI under Tinley, NH].  She married 1st Gother Mann, possibly in Trinidad [Grenada reg.].  He was born 1 May 1775 in Sheerness, Kent, son of Gen. Gother and Ann (Wade) Mann [IGI, DNB, IC].  They were living in Trinidad in Jul 1803 and were in Grenada in Oct 1803 [Grenada reg.].  He died 4 Dec 1804 at sea on the voyage back from the West Indies, and was buried at sea [IC].  She married 2nd Richard Parry Burnett on 5 Nov 1806 in Grenada [reg., GW].  He was a Captain in the 6th West India Regiment from 1805 [GW].  They were living in Grenada in 1807 [reg.].  They were living in Fareham, Hampshire in 1814 and May 1815 [GW, IGI].  A Mary Augusta Burnett died in 4th quarter 1842 in Axminster District [CR].  He died in 4th quarter 1864 in Staines District [GW].

 

Mary Cowan Tinlin(e).  Chr. 2 Apr 1854 in Earlston, Berwickshire, daughter of Alexander and Mary (Simpson) Tinlin [cen., SCR].  In 1881 she was unmarried, working as a dressmaker in Earlston [cen.].  In 1891 she was living in Earlston District [cen.].  In 1901 she was living in Earlston and was unmarried [cen.].  She died in 1915 in Earlston District, Berwickshire, age 60 [SCVL].

[cen., occup. unreadable].  In 1920 they were living in Lee Twp., and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  She died 30 Jun 1920 in Carroll Co., Ohio [CRM].  He was living in Carrollton in Aug 1929 [CRM].  In 1930 he was living in Carrollton with his daughter, a widower [cen.].

 

Mary Davidson Tinline.  Born 7 Sep 1900 in Hawick District, daughter of John and Margaret (Wilson) Tinlin [JT, SCVL].  Possibly the Mary Tinline living in Hawick in 1901 [cen.].  She married Kenneth McKinnon on 26 Jul 1923 in Bedrule [JT, SCVL has MacKinnon].  He was born 3 Mar 1895 [JT].  She died 29 Jun 1927 in Scoonie Fife District, age 26 [JT, SCVL].  He died 8 Dec 1972 [JT].

 

Mary Douglas Tinlin.  Born 22 Sep 1856 in Oxnam, Roxburghshire, daughter of Walter and Agnes (Douglas) Tinlin [JT].  In 1861 she was living with her parents in Pennymuir, Oxnam [cen.].  In 1871 she was living with her parents in Pennymuir, Oxnam [cen.].  She had a natural daughter by her future husband Robert Renton in Oct 1878 in Inveresk, Edinburgh [cert.].  At the time he was working for the railway and she was working as a domestic servant and living in Pennymuir, Oxnam [cert.].  She married Robert Purves Renton in 1878 in Inveresk District [JT, SCVL].  He was born c. 1855 in Coldstream, Berwickshire [cen.].  In 1881 they were living in Duddingston, Midlothian, and he was working as a telegraph signalman [cen.].  She died 6 Jun 1920 [JT].

Mary Jane Tinling.  Born 3rd quarter 1865 in Bradford, Bolam Parish, Northumberland, and chr. there 15 Oct 1865, daughter of Joseph and Frances (Bell) Tinlin(g) [CR, reg., census].  In 1871 she was living with her parents in Sandyford, Shortflatt, Bolam [cen.].  In 1881 she was living with her father in Bolam Harnham, working as a housekeeper [cen.].  In 1891 she was living with her father in Kirkwhelpington, Northumberland, working as a housekeeper [cen.].  She married Samuel Ulph on 16 May 1895 in Kirkwhelpington, Northumberland [CR, reg.].  He was born c. 1861 in Norfolk, son of Thomas Ulph, horse breaker [reg., cen.].  At the time of their marriage, he was living in New Deanham, Cambo, Northumberland and was working as a farm servant, and she was living in Kirkwhelpington [reg.].  In 1901 they were living in Sweethope, Northumberland and he was working as a groom at a livery stable [cen.]. He married again in Oct 1916, so she must have died before that date [reg.].

Milton John Tinline.  Born 14 Oct 1880 in King Twp., Ontario, son of William John and Phoebe Elizabeth (Hacking) Tinline [OBR, sister’s obit., cen.].  In 1881 he was living with his parents in Whitchurch, York North Co., Ontario [cen.].  He moved to Elkhorn, Manitoba with his parents [Internet].  In 1901 he was living with his parents there, was single, and was working as a farmer [cen.].  He was the first student enrolled in the agricultural college at Winnipeg [Internet].  He married Mary Mabel ______ [CWGC].  They lived in Brandon, Manitoba and, for a time, in Scott, Saskatchewan [CWGC, Internet].  He died in 1968 [Internet].  Children: John Evan.

 

Mina Tinline.  Born 6 Aug 1867 in Kirkton, Roxburghshire, daughter of John and Isabella (Brown) Tinline [cen., IGI].  In 1871 she was living with her parents in Newmill R. Cottage, Kirktown [cen.].  In 1881 she was living with her mother in Kirkton [cen.].  She died in 1886 in Hawick District, Roxburghshire, age 19 [SCVL].

 

Mina D. Tinlin.  Born 20 Jan 1882, daughter of ______ and ______ Moor [SS, CS].  She lived in Alameda, California [CS].  Probably the Mrs. Mina Tinlin living in Los Angeles in 1939 [dir.]. She died 25 Jun 1965 in Orange Co., California [SS, CS].
