He drew a map of the area of operations of a Canadian campaign c. 1780, now at the U.S. Library of Congress. Became a Lieutenant 10 Nov 1784 [AL]. He was second in command to John Ross at Cataraqui (now Kingston, Ontario, Canada) c. 1783-4, and in 1785 he made accusations leading to Ross’ arrest, but Ross was exonerated [Dic. of Canadian Biography, Vol. IV, pg. 684]. William Stephen Tinlin (e). Born c. 1826 in Ontario, son of James and Margaret (Coon) Tinlin [cen., chr. record]. He was of Scottish origin [cen.]. Chr. 1 May 1827 in Thorold, Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario [chr. record, RLC]. In 1851 he was living in Louth with his parents, was working as a carpenter, and was unmarried [cen.]. He married Rhoda ______ [cen.]. She was born in 1831 in Ontario and was of German descent [cen.]. He is probably the Tinline who was co-owner of Boam & Tinline, carpenters in Beamsville, Lincoln Co., Ontario, Canada in 1857 [Directory of Ontario]. In 1871 they were living in Clinton, Lincoln Co., Ontario, and he was working as a carpenter and farmer [cen.]. In 1881 they were living in Beamsville, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cen.]. He died 26 Oct 1899 in Beamsville [ODR]. In 1901 she was living in Beamsville and was a widow [cen.]. She died 6 Mar 1902 in Beamsville [ODR]. They were bur. in Mt. Osborne Municipal Cemetery, Beamsville [OCFA]. Children: George Walter, Emma E.

William Thomas Tinling. Chr. 23 Dec 1827 in St. John’s, Wakefield Parish, Yorkshire, son of Hector and Elizabeth (Rayner) Tinling [IGI]. He died 4th quarter 1841 in Chorlton District (Lancashire) [CR].

William White Tinnlyn (sic). Chr. 11 Jul 1816 in Sedgley, Staffordshire, son of Anthony and Jane Tinnlyn [IGI].

Williamina Tinlin. Born c. 1824-1826 in Roxburghshire, daughter of William and Margaret (McDonald) Tinlin [cen., death cert.]. In 1841 she was living in Bewliehill, Lilliesleaf, Roxburghshire, working as a family servant [cen. as Mina]. She married John Macaulay in Dec 1849 in Melrose, Roxburghshire [SCR as Mina, her death cert. as McAuley]. He was a journeyman joiner [her death cert.]. She died 26 Mar 1882 at Paterson’s land, Main Street, Bellshill, Lanark, age 58 [cert.]. He survived her [her death cert.].

Willis Dudley Tinling. Born 18 May 1896 in Spokane, Spokane Co., Washington, son of Grant Colfax and Eva Elizabeth (Williams) Tinling [SS, JH, MT]. In 1910 he was living with his parents in Seattle, King Co., Washington [cen.]. In 1920 he was living with his parents in Seattle, King Co., Washington, was single, and was working as a night clerk [cen.]. He married 1st Melba ______ in c. 1922 [cen.]. She was born c. 1904 in California [cen.]. He was living in Los Angeles, California in 1926, working as a store manager and in 1930 as a motion picture director [dir.]. They apparently had no children and divorced before Apr 1930 [cen.]. In 1930 he was living in Los Angeles and was working as an exporter [cen.]. In 1930 she was living with her [ex-] brother-in-law James Tinling in Los Angeles and was working as a saleswoman in a clothing store [cen.]. He married 2nd Marian Rose Goble in 1930 in California [BRC, Senior Spectrum, 14 Dec 2004]. She was born 17 Dec 1904, daughter of Frank Newton and Nora (Sale) Goble of New York, and was the author of several books on William Byrd, etc. [UofA catalog]. They divorced in 1948 [BRC]. In Oct 1962 he was living in Portland, Oregon [LA Times, 25 Oct 1962, pg. H12]. He died 26 Dec 1971 in Tacoma, Pierce Co., Washington, benefits sent to Martinez, California [Anc., SS]. He was bur. in Williamette National Cemetery, Multanomah Co., Oregon [Internet]. She lived at one time in Sacramento, California [AB].
