Adolphus Latimer (Tinling) Widdrington.  Born 16 Dec 1801 in Aberdeen, son of Lt.-Gen. Sir David Latimer and Sarah (Teesdale) Tinling-Widdrington, chr. Pear Tree Green Church, Itchen, Southampton [DLTW, HF].  A captain since 10 Nov 1829, placed on the British Half-Pay the same day [List].  He was a Captain in the 73rd Regiment [Times obit.].  At the time of his marriage he was living in Gillingham, Kent [reg.].  He married Charlotte Phipps Tinling (his cousin) on 29 Jun 1837 at All Saint’s, Southampton, Hampshire [reg.].  After about 1846, they lived in Pear Tree Green, Southampton [GW].  In 1851 they were living at Pear Tree Green [cen.].  There is a record for him among the Commissions and Inquisitions of Lunacy, in which he was apparently admitted to the asylum in Alton, Hampshire in Jun 1857 [PRO].  At the time, he was living at Westbrook House [PRO].  He died 8 Nov 1860, bur. 15 Nov 1860 at St. Mary Extra, Southampton [London Times, 13 Nov 1860, page 1, DJ].  At the time of his death he was living in Woolston [DJ].  In 1871 she was living in Brighton, Sussex, a widow [cen.].  She died 18 Feb 1877 in Brighton, Sussex [HF].  Children: Sidney Latimer Tinling, Alicia Ashley, Charlotte Augusta, Mary Louisa, Harriette Mary Elizabeth, Margaret Henrietta, Emily Maria, Lucy Rhoda, Isabel Octavia, Ella Elton.

 

Alicia Almeria (Tinling) Widdrington.  Born 12 Jul 1805 in Aberdeen, daughter of Lt.-Gen. Sir David Latimer and Sarah (Teesdale) Tinling-Widdrington [DLTW, cen.].   She married 1st Capt. Henry Pooley, R.E. in 1834 [NH, PMI, Burke’s].  At the time of their marriage, he was living in Gillingham, Kent [PMI].  He was born 24 Nov 1797, and chr. 25 Nov 1797 in Truro, Cornwall, son of the Rev. Henry and Loveday (Treweeke) Pooley [IGI, his will]. They had no children and he died between Oct 1841 and Dec 1843 [his will, NH, HF].  She married 2nd Edwin Toby Caulfield, of Raheenduffe, Queen’s Co., Ireland, Cmdr. R.N. on 9 May 1846 in Walcot, Bath [NH, Burke’s, London Times, 13 May 1846, pg. 1].  He was born 14 Jan 1793 in Westminster, Middlesex, son of Wade Toby and Anne (Cope) Caulfield [cen., Burke’s].   In 1871 they were living in Walcot, Bath, and he was a retired Commander of the Royal Navy [cen.].  He died 24 Feb 1881 at Beckford House, Bath [London Times, 28 Feb 1881, pg. 1].  In 1881 she was living at Beckford House, Lansdown Crescent, Bath [cen.].  She died 27 Dec 1882 at Beckford House, Bath [London Times, 29 and 30 Dec 1882, pg. 1].

 

Alicia Ashley Widdrington.  Born c. 1839 in Sheerness, Kent, daughter of Adolphus Latimer Tinling and Charlotte Phipps (Tinling) Widdrington [cen., HF].  In 1851 she was living with her parents in Pear Tree Green, Hampshire [cen.].  In 1871 she was living with her mother in Brighton, Sussex, and was unmarried [cen.].  In 1881 she was living at 20 Goldstone Villas, Hove, Sussex, and was unmarried [cen.].  In 1891 she was living in Hove, Sussex, and was unmarried [cen.].  In 1905 she was living at 20 Goldstone Villas, Hove, Sussex [HF].

 

Andrea Stacy Widdrington.  Daughter of Peter Nigel Tinling and Betty Ann (Lawrence) Widdrington [Canadian Who’s Who].  She married Bill Belgue [father’s obit.].

 

Augusta Isabella Tinling (Widdrington).  Born 10 Dec 1797 at Southampton, Hampshire, and chr. 12 Feb 1798 at All Saint’s, Southampton, daughter of Lt.-Gen. Sir David Latimer and Sarah (Teesdale) Tinling-Widdrington [DLTW, reg. (where he is called James Latimer Tinling)].  She died c. January 1800 (which would have been before the family adopted the surname Widdrington) [DLTW].

 

Charles “Paddy” Smyth Tinling Widdrington, Capt.  Born 1913, son of Percy Elborough Tinling and Helen (Dawson) Widdrington [PETW].  He married Felicity Bunny Sands, an Australian, in 1940 [PETW].  He served in the S. Stafford Regiment in World War II [London Gazette, 26 Aug 1941].  They lived at Yew Tree House, Streethay, near Lichfield, in 1955 [PETW].  He was living in Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey in 1972 [NH].  They were living in Richmond, Surrey in 2001 [JTW].  Children: [four, source is unreadable] Pen Edwin, Charlotte Sarah, ______, ______.

 

Charlotte Augusta Widdrington.  Born 2nd quarter 1841 in Hull Drypool, Yorkshire, daughter of Adolphus Latimer Tinling and Charlotte Phipps (Tinling) Widdrington [CR, HF, cen.].  In 1851 she was living with her parents in Pear Tree Green, Hampshire [cen.].  In 1871 she was living with her mother in Brighton, Sussex and was unmarried [cen.].  In 1891 and 1901 she was a Sister of Mercy and the head of the Convent, Croydon, Surrey [cen.].  In 1905 she was a sister in the Anglican Convent, Woodside, Croydon, Surrey [HF].

 

Charlotte Sarah Widdrington.  Daughter of Charles Smyth and Felicity Bunny (Sands) Widdrington [NH].

Edith (Edyth) Maud Constance (Tinling) Widdrington.  Born c. Aug 1870 in Cricklewood, Middlesex, daughter of Ernest Augustus Dundas and Ellen Eliza (Skeet) Tinling Widdrington [cen., NH].  In 1871 she was living with her parents in Cricklewood [cen.].  In 1881 she was living with her father in Penge, Surrey [cen.].  In 1891 she was living with her grandmother in Hove, Sussex [cen.].  In 1901 she was living in Kensington, London, and was unmarried [cen.].  She married 1st Reid Taylor of Montreal on 28 Apr 1903 at St. Mary Abbots [London Times, 30 Apr 1903, pg. 1].  She married 2nd James Stewart Kennedy [NH].  She married 3rd Sherard John Otway Pole-Sherard-Cuffe, who claimed to be 5th Duke of Pleneuf [NH, Central News, Apr 1922].  He was born 25 Jan 1881 in Highbury, Middlesex, son of Maurice Sherard Oscar and Julia Amy (Heatley) Cuffe [cen., CR, Plantagenet Roll of the Blood Royal].  He died 4 Mar 1934 in Malta [Times, 8 Mar 1934, pg. 1].  He did not leave his estate to her (Pleneuf Court, St. Andrews, Guernsey), so she may have been deceased by then, or they may have divorced [Times, 17 Oct 1934, pg. 16].

 

Ella Elton Widdrington.  Born in Pear Tree Green, Itchen, Southampton, Hampshire, and chr. 22 Sep 1853 at Pear Tree Green Church, daughter of Adolphus Latimer Tinling and Charlotte Phipps (Tinling) Widdrington [DJ, cen.].  In 1871 she was living with her mother in Brighton, Sussex, and was unmarried [cen.].  In 1881 she was living with her sister at 20 Goldstone Villas, Hove, Sussex, and was unmarried [cen.].  In 1891 she was living with her sister in Hove, Sussex, and was unmarried [cen.].  In 1901 she was living in Hove and was unmarried [cen.].  She died c. 1935 [NH].

 

Emily Maria Widdrington.  Born 4th quarter 1847 in South Stoneham District, daughter of Adolphus Latimer Tinling and Charlotte Phipps (Tinling) Widdrington [HF, CR].  Chr. 28 Dec 1847 at Pear Tree Green Church, Itchen, Southampton, Hampshire [DJ].  She died 3 Mar 1848 at Pear Tree Green and was bur. on 6 Mar 1848 at Pear Tree Green Church [HF, DJ].

 

Emma Matilda (Tinling) Widdrington.  Born 1 Jan 1800 in Dover, Kent, and chr. 12 Feb 1800 at St. Mary the Virgin, Dover, daughter of Lt.-Gen. Sir David Latimer and Sarah (Teesdale) Tinling-Widdrington [DLTW, IGI].  She is apparently the daughter whose carriage overturned at Tunbridge Wells, Kent on 22 Mar 1837 [London Times, 31 Mar 1837, pg. 4].  She was taken to the Hand and Scepter Inn, where she died the night of 24-25 Mar 1837 [Times].  She is not mentioned in her father’s Jun 1837 will.

 

Ernest Augustus Dundas (Tinling) Widdrington.  Born 15 Sep 1842 at Northfield House, Bath, Somerset, son of Sidney Henry and Harriet (Holman) Tinling Widdrington [HF, Annual Register 1842].  In 1851 he was attending a school in Southampton [cen.].  He was a captain in the 87th Royal Irish Fusiliers [London Times marr. notice].  He married 1st Ellen Eliza Skeet on 27 May 1869 at St. Mark’s Church, Hamilton Terrace, London [London Times, 29 May 1869, pg. 1].  She was born 9 Jun 1843 at Hill Road, Marylebone, London, the daughter of Robert Skeet, Esq. of London and his wife Jane Charlotte Jeffs [HF, London Times].  In 1871 they were living in Rockhill Terrace, Cricklewood, Middlesex, and he was a retired officer [cen.].  She died 3 May 1875 at their home in Rockhill Terrace, Cricklewood and was bur. at Paddington [HF, London Times, 6 May 1875, pg. 1].  In 1881 he was living with his step-mother in Penge, Surrey, was a widower, and was working as a stockbroker [cen. as Coners A.D. Widdrington].  He married 2nd Mary Wilkinson on 16 Jun 1881 at All Saints’, Upper Norwood, Surrey [CR, London Times, 18 Jun 1881, pg. 1].  She was the daughter of George Wilkinson, Esq. of Oswald House, Durham [Times].  They had no children [HF].  He died 7 Nov 1885 at Hauxley, Merden [London Times, 10 Nov 1885, pg. 1].  Children by 1st wife: Edith (Edyth) Maud Constance.

 

George John Widdrington (Tinling) Widdrington, Major.  Born 22 Nov 1787 in Sennicotes, Chicester, Sussex, son of Lt.-Gen. Sir David Latimer and Sarah (Teesdale) Tinling-Widdrington [DLTW, GW, HF].  He was chr. 11 Dec 1787 at All Saints’, Chichester, Sussex [reg.].  In the British Army from the age of 9 in 1796.  A Captain in the Army from 29 Oct 1802, entered the 34th “Cumberland” Regiment of Foot on 9 May 1805 [AL].  He was a major in the 83rd Regiment [HF].  He died 30 Jun 1813 from wounds received at the Battle of Vittoria, bur. "in the garden of a convent in the city" (Vittoria?) [DLTW].

 

Gerard Nigel Tinling Widdrington.  Born 10 May 1901 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, son of Percy Elborough Tinling and Enid (Stacy) Widdrington [SS, PETW, CR].  Attended St. Edmunds Hall, Oxford University in 1919 [Internet].  Was working as a journalist in Canada from 1922 [PETW].  Lived at one time in New York [SS].  He married Margery Lince MacDonald, a Canadian [Internet, PETW].  He worked at St. Andrew’s College in Aurora (Ontario?) [Internet].  He was later a Classics master and Headmaster for 12 years at Pickering College in Newmarket, Ontario [Internet].  He served in World War II with the YMCA and the Royal Candian Air Force [Internet].  After the war, he had a position in the Secretariat of the United Nations [Internet].  He died in Jun 1986, benefits sent to Canada [SS].  Children: Peter Nigel Tinling, Michael David.

 

Grizelle Margaret Widdrington.  Born 19 Jul 1912, daughter of Percy Elborough Tinling and Helen (Dawson) Widdrington [CR, PETW].  A nurse at St. Thomas’ Hospital in 1936 [PETW].  She married Rev. Francis Noel Davey in late 1939 [PETW, NH, London Times, 2 Sep 1939, pg. 13].  He was the son of Edward O. Davey, and was a Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, at the time of the marriage [Times].  They lived in Albany Terrace in 1956 [PETW].  She died in or shortly before Feb 1997 in Ipswich District, Suffolk [CR].

 

Harriette Mary Elizabeth Widdrington.  Daughter of Adolphus Latimer Tinling and Charlotte Phipps (Tinling) Widdrington [HF].  She died 30 May 1845 in Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary, Ireland [HF].

 

Hilda Louisa Elton Tinling Widdrington.  Born at Hartlepool, Durham, daughter of Sidney Latimer Tinling and Florence Mary (Bond) Widdrington [HF].  In 1905 she was living at 28 Hallesches, Berlin, Germany [HF].  She married 1st Ivan Hugh Gordon [NH].  He was in the 56th Rifles, Frontier Force [Times, 24 Oct 1929, pg. 19].  He died and she married 2nd Col. B. G. Channer [her obit.].  In Oct 1929 he was commanding the 10th Battalion, 12th Frontier Force Regiment, Sialkot [Times, 24 Oct 1929, pg. 19].  They lived at Daubeney House, Rode, Bath [her obit.].  She died 28 Sep 1954 in Bath [Times, 1 Oct 1954, pg. 1].

 

Isabel Octavia Widdrington.  Chr. 25 May 1851 at Pear Tree Green Church, Itchen, Southampton, Hampshire, daughter of Adolphus Latimer Tinling and Charlotte Phipps (Tinling) Widdrington [DJ].  She died 4 Sep 1851 in Itchen, Southampton, Hampshire and was bur. 6 Sep 1851 at Pear Tree Green Church [HF, DJ].

Louisa Georgina (Tinling) Widdrington.  Born 17 Jan 1796 on board the Ship Maria, daughter of Lt.-Gen. Sir David Latimer and Sarah (Teesdale) Tinling-Widdrington [DLTW].  Married Rev. Dr. Rowland Grove Curtois, Chaplain to the Forces on 31 May 1821 at St. Peter the Less, Chichester, Sussex [London Times obit. of son, reg.].  He was chr. 3 Jul 1786 in Sixhills, Lincolnshire, son of Rowland and Mary (Dales) Curtois [IGI, AD].  At the time of their marriage, he was living in Alverstoke, Southampton, and she was living in Chichester [reg.].  They were living in Amport, Hampshire in Nov 1829 [IGI].  She apparently died before 7 May 1839 when he married for a second time [AD].

Mary Louisa Widdrington.  Born 2 Oct 1842 and chr. 3 Oct 1842 in Saint Mary, Swansea, Glamorganshire, daughter of Adolphus Latimer and Charlotte Phipps (Tinling) Widdrington [IGI].  She died 25 Oct 1842 in Swansea, age 23 days, bur. 27 Oct 1842 at Swansea St. Mary [FHO].

Stacy, 18, Cotham-road, Bristol [Times].  He was vicar of St. Phillip’s, Elswick, Newcastle-upon-Tyne from 1897-1901 [PETW].  She died 4 Sep 1903 at Calderbrook, Lancashire, age 35 [PETW, HF, CR].  He married 2nd Helen Dawson on 29 Aug (1911?) at St. Buryan church, near Coventry [PETW].  She was from Littleborough [PETW].  They lived in Great Easton, Essex from 1918 to 1956 [PETW].  She died in 1956 [PETW].  He died 13 Feb 1959 (in Chelmsford, Essex?) Reginald Edward Caulfield Widdrington.  Born c. 1849 in Bath, Somerset, son of Sidney Henry (Tinling) and Harriet (Holman) Widdrington [cen., London Times].  In 1871 he was staying with his mother at a lodge in Rugby, Warwickshire [cen.].  He married Louisa Mary Sims on 8 Aug 1871 at St. Marylebone Church, London [London Times, 10 Aug 1871, pg. 1].  She was born c. 1851 in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, daughter of George R. Sims, Esq., the journalist [HF, cen., London Times marr. notice].  In 1881 they were living in Acton, Middlesex, and he was working as a commercial clerk in a wholesale looking glass factory [cen.].  In 1891 they were living in Ealing, Middlesex, and he was working as a clerk [cen.].  He died in 1st quarter 1899 in Brentford District [CR].  In 1901 and 1905 she was living in Ealing, Middlesex [cen., HF].  Children: Sidney Henry, Maud Louise.

 

Sidney Adolphus Widdrington.  Born 2 Aug 1875 in Blechington, Southampton, Hampshire, son of Sidney Latimer Tinling and Florence Mary (Bond) Widdrington [cen., PETW, CR (4th quarter)].  In 1881 he was living with his parents in Millbrook, Hampshire [cen.].  He was a civil engineer at sea [HF].  He did not have any children [NH].

 

Sidney Henry (Tinling) Widdrington.  Born 16 Dec 1803 in Aberdeen, and chr. 19 Dec 1803 in St. Nicholas, Aberdeen, and 21 Jan 1804 in Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland, son of Lt.-Gen. Sir David Latimer and Sarah (Teesdale) Tinling-Widdrington [IGI, DLTW].  Educated at Sandhurst Military Academy and Magdalene College, Cambridge (M.A. 1840).  He married 1st Fanny Caroline Strickland on 25 Mar 1830 in Amport, Hampshire [Blackwood’s Magazine, Jun 1830, page 904]. She was the daughter of Thomas Strickland, Esq. of Kendal [Blackwood’s Magazine].  At the time of his marriage, he was living at Hauxley Hall, Northumberland, the home of his father, and in Amport, and she lived in Weyhill [Blackwood’s Magazine, DLWT, Anc.].  They were in Amport in Jan 1831 [son’s bur.].  She died 6 Feb 1831 at the residence of Lady Murray Andover [HF].  He was ordained a deacon at Chichester in 1835 and a priest at Exeter in 1836 [”Alumni Cantabrigiensis”].  He was at St. Leonard’s and St. Mary Magdalene in St. Leonards-on-Sea 1838-40; rector of Walcot, Somerset 1840-58, vicar of St Michael’s, Coventry 1858-63; vicar of St. Mark’s, St. John’s Wood, London 1863-70 [”Alumni Cantabrigiensis”].  He married 2nd Harriet Holman on 29 Dec 1838 at St. George’s, Hanover Square, London [HF, CR].  She was born c. 1815 in Thames Ditton, Surrey, daughter of John Holman of Chelmsford, but was said to be a natural daughter of George IV, King of England [cen., HF].  In 1839 they were temporarily living at The Manorhouse, Bexley, Kent, but their home was still Hauxley Hall [father’s obit.].  In 1841 they were living at Northfield House, Beacon Hill, Walcot, Bath [cen.].  They were living at Northfield House, Bath, in Sep 1842 [Annual Register 1842].  He was a captain in the 53rd Regiment of Foot [Blackwood’s Magazine, Anc.].  He died 23 Jul 1870 at 155 Maida Vale, London, age 66 [Boase, pg. 866].  His London Times obituary (26 Jul 1870, pg. 1) stated he was the only surviving son of Lt.-Gen. Sidney Henry Widdrington.  Born 1st quarter 1875 in Marylebone or St. John’s Wood, Middlesex, son of Reginald Edward Caulfield and Louisa M. (Sims) Widdrington [cen., CR].  In 1881 he was living with his parents in Acton, Middlesex [cen.].  In 1891 he was living with his parents in Ealing, Middlesex [cen.].  He married Blanche Welch on 7 Mar (Apr?) 1896 in Winchfield, Hampshire [London Times, 9 Apr 1896, pg. 1].  She was born c. 1871 (?) in Kenton, Dorset, the daughter of H. Welch, Esq. [cen., Times].  In 1901 they were living with his mother in Ealing, Middlesex, and he was working as a stockbroker [cen. (her name as Melinda A.)].  He died (by drowning) on 10 Aug 1902 in Wareham, Dorsetshire, age 27 [HF, CR, Times, 14 Aug 1902, pg. 1].

 

Sidney H. Latimer Tinling Widdrington.  Born c. 1840 in Bexley, Kent, son of Sidney Henry and Harriet (Holman) Tinling Widdrington [HF, cen. (not in CR in 1840)].  In 1851 he was attending a school in Southampton [cen.].  He was an adjutant of the 4th Lancashire Rifle Volunteers, and a Captain in the Queen’s Royals [HF].  He died 21 Sep 1869 in Liverpool, Lancashire, age 29 [HF, London Times].

 

Sidney Latimer Tinling Widdrington.  Born 29 Mar 1838 in Southampton, Hampshire, son of Adolphus Latimer Tinling and Charlotte Phipps (Tinling) Widdrington [cen., DJ].  Chr. 25 Apr 1838 in All Saints, Southampton [BVRI].  In 1851 he was attending a school in Southampton [cen.].  He married Florence Mary Bond on 26 Sep 1870 at St. Mark’s, Isle of Jersey [HF].  She was born c. 1853 in Dinapore, India, daughter of Warman Reid Bond, M.D. of Co. Galway, Ireland [cen., PETW, HF].  In 1871 they were living in Southampton, Hampshire, and he was working as an examiner officer for H.M. Customs [cen.].  In 1881 they were living in Millbrook, Hampshire, and he was working as an examining officer for H.M. Customs [cen.].  He was later Inspector of Her Majesty’s Customs [PETW].  I cannot locate any of the family in 1891.  In 1901 he was living in Southampton and was a retired assistant inspector of Her Majesty’s Customs [cen.].  His wife was not with him [cen.].  Children: Percy Elborough Tinling, Sidney Adolphus, Hilda Louisa Elton Tinling.

 

Sidney Tinling Dundas Widdrington.  [Almost certainly] son of Sidney Henry and Fanny Caroline (Strickland) Widdrington.  Bur. 8 Jan 1831 in Amport, Hampshire, an infant [FHO].

 

Stephen Widdrington.  Son of Michael David Widdrington [uncle’s obit.].  He married Debbie ______ [uncle’s obit.].

 

William Algernon St. Clair Widdrington.  Born c. 1845 in Bath, Somerset, son of Sidney Henry Tinling and Harriet (Holman) Widdrington [cen.].  He married Ellen W. ______ [cen.].  She was born c. 1849 in St. Pancras, Middlesex [cen.].  Have not located in 1871 census.  In 1881 they were living in Islington, London, and he was working as the manager and secretary of the London General Cab Company [cen.].  In 1891 they were living in Bath, Somerset, he was living on his own means and she was working as a dressmaker [cen.].  He died in 4th quarter 1892 in Lewes District, age 46 [CR].  They had no children [NH].

 

Zita Mary Tinling Widdrington.  Born 1917, daughter of Percy Elborough Tinling and Helen (Dawson) Widdrington [PETW].  She married Capt. Landon P. Hill on 26 Apr 1944 at St. Matthew’s, Bayswater, London [London Times, 4 May 1944, pg. 1].  He was in the U.S. Army [Times].  They were living in Chevy Chase, Maryland in 1956 [PETW, NH].
