St. Mary's Church Cemetery

Arnheim, Franklin Township, Brown County, Ohio

Welcome to the St. Mary's Church Cemetery in Arnheim, Franklin Township, Brown County, Ohio pages. The reason for my interest and decision to furnish the cemetery information on our web page is because my ancestors Frederick and Margaret (Reihle/Rehler) Botz and John Peter and Catherine (Botz) Smith and several of their descendants are buried there.

This cemetery is located on Brownstown and Arnheim Road on the east side of the road and is a half mile north of Arnheim's center. The grounds are in good condition. In 1837, Wendall Klein, who then owned the farm donated half an acre of ground for a cemetery and church. The local Catholic members erected a log building, 22 x 30 feet and received the name of St. Wendall's Church, in honor of the donor. In 1858, the erection of a new church, which was built in the village of Arnheim and was dedicated as St. Mary's Church. The old church was abandoned. This left the cemetery which was renamed St. Mary's Church Cemetery.

Here you will find the cemetery information such as gravestones inscriptions and a cemetery index with the section and row indicated. To my knowledge this cemetery has not been broken down into sections as this website would indicate but when this research was accomplished it was easier to organize. The actual surveying and compiling of the cemetery information that you will find on these web pages were accomplished by myself back in the late 1980's.

Also, to assist in the preparation of the cemetery information was obtained from the book "Tombstone Inscriptions of Brown County, Volume I". Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, Library Main Branch; Reference R929.3, 903737 br, V1. Only the older section is published in this volume. Copied April, 1963. The grounds were in excellent condition.
