1. EDWARD JEWETT was born
about 1580 in Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire, England.
He married there 1 Oct 1604 to MARY TAYLOR, daughter of
William Taylor. This marriage is recorded in the Bradford
Parish Register. He lived in Bradford, England where he
was a cloth manufacturer and where he died.

Generation
MAXIMILLIAN JEWETT(3) was born
in Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. He was
baptized there 4 Oct 1607. He married ANN FIELD. He with
his wife Ann, and his brother Joseph sailed from Hull,
England in 1638 in the ship John, with a colony
under the leadership of Rev. Ezekiel Rogers. They arrived
at Boston about the first of December, 1638, spent the
winter in Salem and in the spring of 1639 founded the town
of Rowley, Mass. He was admitted freeman 13 May 1640.
"Was chosen Deacon of the church 13 Dec 1639, in which
place he served forty-five years and for two hundred and
twenty years a descendant of him or his younger brother, a
fellow passenger has been in that office or minister, the
whole time except eight years." He was a clothier and with
his brother Joseph was about the first, if not the first,
to manufacture woolen cloth in America.

He married second 30 Aug 1671 to
Elinor Boynton, widow of John Boynton. She was a Miss
Pell, of Boston.

of Ipswich. She died 5 Aug 1689 in Rowley,
Mass.

EZEKIEL JEWETT(8) was born 5
Jan 1643 in Rowley, Mass. "Ezekiell Jewet, son of
Maximilian and Ann borne first moneth the fift day."
He married 26 Feb 1663/4 in Rowley to FAITH PARROTT,
daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Northend Parrott/Parrat.
She was born 20 Jan 1642 in Rowley. Ezekiel was admitted
freeman 15 May 1669. He succeeded his father as deacon of
the Rowley church; was ordained 24 Oct 1686, and served
until 2 Sep 1723. He was representative to the General
Court for Rowley for the years 1690, 1692, 1697, 1699,
1707, 1713, 1718, and 1719. Faith died 15 Oct 1715. Her
gravestone in the Rowley Cemetery, standing in
1906:

FRANCIS JEWETT(16) was born 15
Mar 1664 in Rowley, Mass. "Francis the sonn of Ezekiel
Jewet borne ye fifteenth, 1664." He married 20 Jun
1693 in Bradford, Mass to SARAH HARDY, daughter of John
Hardy. She was born in Bradford 25 Mar 1672. He was
dismissed from the Rowley Church to the Bradford Church 19
Jun 1692, and became deacon of that Church. Sarah died in
Bradford 3 Feb 1744. Francis died there 19 Sep 1751. They
are both buried in Groveland, Mass.

Dec 1725 in Bradford, Mass. He married SARAH HARDY and
settled in Hollis, NH, where he of Hollis was a soldier in
the Revolution. He died 20 Dec 1791 and was buried in the
Church Cemetery.

SAMUEL JEWETT(53) was born 1
Jan 1756 in Hollis, NH. He married 13 Dec 1781 in Meredith
Bridge, now Laconia, NH to APPHIA SMITH, daughter of
Jonathan Smith of Meredith Bridge. She was born 20 May
1759 in Brentwood, NH. As a young man Samuel lived in
Hollis and served in the Revolution from that town, as
follows:
"Samuel Jewet, Hollis, Private, Capt. Reuben
Dow's co., Col. William Prescott's regt.; company return
dated Cambridge, Oct. 6, 1775; also list of men belonging
to Capt. Reuben Dow's co., Col. William Prescott's regt.,
who lost articles at Bunker Hill, June 17, 1775; dated
Cambridge, Dec. 22, 1775." (Mass. Soliers and Sailors in
War of the Rev.," Vol. VIII.) He lost in this battle "one
knapsack value 1s 8d and one tumpline value 1s
2d."
"Samuel Jewett, Hollis, Private, Capt. Reuben Dow's
co., Col. William Prescott's regt.; muster roll dated Aug.
1, 1775, enlisted April 25, 1775; service 3 mos. 14
days."
"Samuel Jeutt, Hollis, Capt. Reuben Dow's co.,
Col. Willialm Prescott's regt.; order for bounty coat or
its equivalent in money dated Cambridge Nov. 20, 1775."

"Cambridge Nov. 20, 1775. To the Honorable the
Committee of Supplies.
"This may certify that we, who
have hereunto subscribed our names, do declare that we,
being under officers and soldiers enlisted under Capt. Reuben Dow of Hollis, in Col. William Prescott's Regiment, have recieved each of us a coat according to a vote of the late Congress held at Watertown, and provided by the Committee of Supplies--we say, received of Lieutenant John Goss of said Company." Samuel Jewett (and 46 others.)
"Samuel Jewett, private of Hollis, marched April 19, 1775 away 6 days recived as pay 8 shell. 6d."
"Samuel Jewett on Pay roll of Capt. Daniel Emerson's Co., which marched from Hollis for Ticonderoga on alarm June 1777." (N.H.S.P.)
In 1776 he worked in a powder mill in Exeter, N.H., and in October 1777, in company with is brother Jacob, went to Gilmanton. They felled four acres of trees and then returned to Hollis to spend the winter. In the spring of 1778 he and his brother again returned and continued the clearing. At the time they began there were but two houses in what is now the city of Laconia. This part of the town was known as Meredith Bridge, later Gilmanton.
Apphia died 2 Apr 1835 in Meredith Bridge. Samuel died there in 1837.

SMITH JEWETT(63) was born 21 Jul 1793 in Meredith Bridge, NH. He married 4 Jul 1822 in Northfield, NH to STATIRA GLINES, daughter of Benjamin and Lovey Leavitt Glines. She was born 20 May 1799 in Northfield. Smith settled on a farm in Meredith Bridge, where he tilled the soil and at the same time followed the trade of a carpenter. He died 17 Feb 1868 in Meredith Bridge. Statira died 2 Jul 1880.

EDITH AUGUSTA JEWETT(70) was born 14 Oct 1825 in Meredith Bridge, NH. She married 2 Aug 1846 to SAMUEL SMITH JEWETT, son of John and Hannah Danforth Jewett. He was born 2 Aug 1826 of Gilford, NH. The picture above shows Edith at a Jewett reunion surrounded by her family. Edith died May 1906 in Laconia, NH and Samuel died May 1915 in Laconia. They are both burried in Union Cem. in Lacona. Children are listed under Samuel.
