Canals of the South Pennines, including a wonderful virtual tour of the whole of the Rochdale Canal. A not-to-be missed site.

BLACKSHAW, COLDEN & HEPTONSTALL SLACK

Keith Stansfield can be contacted by email on this link. Whilst he is not offering a professional research service, he wishes to give others the benefit of his own research by sharing information from his large data base of census, baptism, burial and marriage transcriptions. The area he covers is mainly Blackshaw, Colden, and Heptonstall Slack, plus the whole of the 1841 and 1851 census of the Township of Stansfield .

HEBDEN BRIDGE LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY

They have an extensive and ever-expanding collection of documents, images, audio recordings, and other artifacts relevant to the history of Hebden Bridge and the surrounding area. It is well-catalogued and freely available for the use of members and for others by arrangement. The site also contains a virtually complete transcription of the memorial inscriptions at Heptonstall Church.

LORD FAMILY

Belinda Cohen's family website. This includes a wonderful biography of Todmorden born Simeon Lord, transported to Australia in 1790 for minor theft. Not to be missed if you are interested in the Lord and Fielden families before 1790, or Simeon's Australian descendants.

THE 1879 ZULU WAR

CHARLESTOWN AND EASTWOOD

Charlestown Local History Group, with plenty of information, history and photographs of Charlestown (Hebden Bridge area) and Eastwood (Stansfield).

JOHN TAYLOR BELL FOUNDERS

The world's leading bell founders. The peal of bells at Christ Church, Todmorden, were taken to Towcester in Northants. when the church closed. The story of their life at Towcester can be read by clicking on this link. John Taylor Bell Founders have produced a CD of various bell ringing, including the peal at Towcester with the old Todmorden bells. Details of the CD appear on their site.

The ancient Parish of Rochdale page. Excellent site for those interested in Todmorden and area.

TODMORDEN ALBUM

Images of Todmorden from the past, collected and selected by Roger Birch. The Todmorden Album collection in its entirety contains some 4,000 images dating back to the 1860s, with many from the early twentieth century.

HISTORY OF THE PARISH OF ROCHDALE

A 114-year-old, six hundred page volume cataloguing the history of the Ancient Parish. Written by Henry Fishwick and reproduced here by Rochdale Local Studies.

LANCASHIRE PARISH REGISTER SOCIETY

The Society's main objectives are to transcribe Lancashire Registers, edit and publish these, and give assistance with preservation of the originals.
