In 1694 MRS. ANN HARRIS made a deed of gift to "the CHILDREN of my son, WILLIAM

HUNT" and another to "my TYLER GRANDCHILDREN" (13) NOTE: See will of Jones Williams where he listed Kinsman John Tyler, George Hunt, &Ann Hunt (33)

ISSUE: (only proven one) WILLIAM HUNT (II)

There were other Hunts in Charles City Co and James City Co. early records beginning in the 1650s & 1660s that possibly could have been his sons by an earlier marriage or relatives: JOHN, GEORGE, OLIVER, THOMAS. See later under Misc. Early Virginia Hunts.

WILLIAM HUNT (Gen. II) Styled MR., CAPTAIN, & Major. He was probably born in the

(Tabitha ___________) 1750s and died in Charles City Co., Va., after 14 May 1714, the date

of his will (14a) and by 1716 when he was listed deceased.(29)

The first record I have for this William Hunt is 1683 when he patented 675 acres in James City Co.(15) In 1688 he and THOMAS HAMBLIN were securities for SARAH DAVISON, relict of DAVID DAVIDSON, on her husband's estate.(16) From 1688 through 1699 MR. WILLIAM HUNT is found in court records of Charles City.(l7)

In 1691 MR. WILLIAM HUNT patented 215 acres in James City Co. that his father, WILLIAM HUNT, had purchased from RICE HOE in 1656.(5) As CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT he patented 159 acres in Charles City Co.in1691(18)

In 1692: CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT'S house was designated as a meeting house to settle the bounds of James City Co. & Charles City Co. (19); as CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT he was designated as "Overseer of roads for North Wynoke (Parish?) (20); and, as CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT patented 908 acres in Charles City Co. in Wynoak Parish and 610 acres in James City Co.(21)

In 1694 MRS. ANN HARRIS made two deeds of gift: One to the children of MY SON, WILLIAM HUNT, and one to MY TYLER GRANDCHILDREN,(13)

In 1698 CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT, JOSHUA WINN 6 RICHARD BRADFORD were appointed Justices of Charles City Co,(22)

On 24 October 1701, as CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT, he patented 4,342 acres in Charles City Co. on both sides of the Nottoway River,(23) NOTE: This land was below the James River and when taxed and when sold by his children it was in Surry Co.

In 1702, Charles City Co., CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT was commissioned "Gentleman Justice"(24)

The 1703 Surry Co., Va., Tithable list (a person tax) included: DENNIS PADDISON on

CAPTAIN HUNT'S PLANTATION & 3 Negroes - 4 tithes.(25) NOTE: William, himself, did not live here.

Charles City Co. as "WILLIAM HUNT, age 13."

III-D JOHN HUNT He signed a petition in 1710, with GEORGE HUNT, as of Charles City Co., to have that part of James City Co., above the

Chickahomni River added to Charles City Co. (35)

He was living when his father died, between 1714 and 1716, and signed his inventory with his brother, GEORGE HUNT. (14) The inventory was divided between JOHN 6 GEDRGE.(14)

He seems to be the CEORGE HUNT, of Westover Parish, Charles City Co., who dated his will 2 November 1725, It was recorded 2 February 1725/26.(42) He did not list a wife or designate any

children or grandchildren; but did list:

So a THOMAS HUNT was deceased by this date.

By 1688 GODFREY HUNT had deeded to HENRY REEVES, SENIOR, 400 acres, part of a patent of 600 acres patented by him on South side Chuckatuck Creek, called Beaver Dam, adjacent THOMAS OGLETHORPE & lately occupied by BRIDGETT ASKEW, WIDOW; and this 400 acres had descended to HENRY REEVES, JUNIOR, of Rapahanock, who on the above date sold it to THOMAS GODWIN of Chuckatuck reciting the above information. (17th Century IOW Co., Va., Boddie, p 600)

In 1687/88 he witnessed the will of THOMAS OGLETHORPE. (Ibid; p 30)

By 15 November 1742, GODFREY HUNT was deceased - stated in a deed of WILLIAM ASKEY of N.C. to RICHARD MATHIS of IOW on this date. (The Southside Virginian, Vol. 4, #3, p 137; IOW Deed Book 6, p 173)

By 1746 GODFREY HUNT had sold an unidentified amount of land to THOMAS DIXON, SENIOR, who stated in his will of that date that his son, THOMAS DIXON, JUNIOR, had lived on it and he was then leaving it to son, WILLIAM DIXON. (Wills 6 Adm. IOW Co., Va., Chapman; p 157)

It is noted that in the 1704 Quit Rent Rolls of Virginia that the following was listed:

GODFREY HUNT - 360 acres in Namsemond Co.

600 acres in Isle of Wight Co.

600 acres in Isle of Wight Co.

The line changed between Namsemond Co. & Isle of Wight Co. & some of his land possibly fell into Isle of Wight Co. I cannot account for the two listings of 600 acres in IOW Co.

ISSUES: NEHEMIAH HUNT - was living in the 1675 will of REBECCA IZARD and was left a legacy as " Nehemiah Hunt, son of Godfrey Hunt." (see first reference)
