33 In 1694 MRS. ANN HARRIS made a deed of gift to "the CHILDREN of my son, WILLIAM HUNT" and another to "my TYLER GRANDCHILDREN" (13) NOTE: See will of Jones Williams where he listed Kinsman John Tyler, George Hunt, &Ann Hunt (33) ISSUE: (only proven one) WILLIAM HUNT (II) There were other Hunts in Charles City Co and James City Co. early records beginning in the 1650s & 1660s that possibly could have been his sons by an earlier marriage or relatives: JOHN, GEORGE, OLIVER, THOMAS. See later under Misc. Early Virginia Hunts. WILLIAM HUNT (Gen. II) Styled MR., CAPTAIN, & Major. He was probably born in the (Tabitha ___________) 1750s and died in Charles City Co., Va., after 14 May 1714, the date of his will (14a) and by 1716 when he was listed deceased.(29) The first record I have for this William Hunt is 1683 when he patented 675 acres in James City Co.(15) In 1688 he and THOMAS HAMBLIN were securities for SARAH DAVISON, relict of DAVID DAVIDSON, on her husband's estate.(16) From 1688 through 1699 MR. WILLIAM HUNT is found in court records of Charles City.(l7) In 1691 MR. WILLIAM HUNT patented 215 acres in James City Co. that his father, WILLIAM HUNT, had purchased from RICE HOE in 1656.(5) As CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT he patented 159 acres in Charles City Co.in1691(18) In 1692: CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT'S house was designated as a meeting house to settle the bounds of James City Co. & Charles City Co. (19); as CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT he was designated as "Overseer of roads for North Wynoke (Parish?) (20); and, as CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT patented 908 acres in Charles City Co. in Wynoak Parish and 610 acres in James City Co.(21) In 1694 MRS. ANN HARRIS made two deeds of gift: One to the children of MY SON, WILLIAM HUNT, and one to MY TYLER GRANDCHILDREN,(13) In 1698 CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT, JOSHUA WINN 6 RICHARD BRADFORD were appointed Justices of Charles City Co,(22) On 24 October 1701, as CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT, he patented 4,342 acres in Charles City Co. on both sides of the Nottoway River,(23) NOTE: This land was below the James River and when taxed and when sold by his children it was in Surry Co. In 1702, Charles City Co., CAPTAIN WILLIAM HUNT was commissioned "Gentleman Justice"(24) The 1703 Surry Co., Va., Tithable list (a person tax) included: DENNIS PADDISON on CAPTAIN HUNT'S PLANTATION & 3 Negroes - 4 tithes.(25) NOTE: William, himself, did not live here. Missing page 34 35 III-B MARY HUNT It is stated that she married 1st ROBERT MINGE of Charles City (ROBERT MINGE) Co., who died before 1726 by which date she had married (WILLLIM ALLEN) WILLIAM ALLEN and were of Henrico Co., Va., and deeded to (FIELD JEFFERSON) JOHN ALLEN 100 acres on North side of Nottoway River, Surry Co., as part of a patent to WILLIAM HUNT, Dec'd, in 1701 which he left to his daughter, MARY. She married last FIELD JEFFERSON. (31,32,14a) IV-A TABITHA MINGE - unmarried in 1741. (31) IV-B MARTHA MINGE - married by 1741 as evidenced by the following. (31) (GEORGE BAKERSFIELD) "We, TABITHA MINGE & GEORGE BASKERVILLE (for consideration that WILLIAM ALLEN & MARY, relict of ROBERT MINGE, dec'd, have released to said TABITHA MINCE by deed bearing date of these presence all right of dower to 375 acres in Charles City Co. where the said ROBERT died seized of, and for further consideration of £ 16.13. confirm to WILLIAM ALLEN seven which Negroes were set apart for the dower and certain Negroes recovered by us in the general court of this colony in the estate of said deceased." IV-C WILLIAM HUNT ALLEN IV-D GEORGE HUNT ALLEN IV-E VALENTINE ALLEN IV-F SAMUEL ALLEN Allen issues as per family records IV-G JOHN ALLEN IV-H ANN ALLEN IV-I MARY ALLEN III-C WILLIAM HUNT Most likely a son, though unproven, and the one stated to be buried close to the grave of WILLIAM HUNT I at Batchelor's Point, Charles City Co. as "WILLIAM HUNT, age 13." III-D JOHN HUNT He signed a petition in 1710, with GEORGE HUNT, as of Charles City Co., to have that part of James City Co., above the Chickahomni River added to Charles City Co. (35) He was living when his father died, between 1714 and 1716, and signed his inventory with his brother, GEORGE HUNT. (14) The inventory was divided between JOHN 6 GEDRGE.(14) He died by _______1716 when the following was dated. "Since the death of JOHN HUNT, SU'A HUNT, Admx. hath possessed herself of that part that was WILLIAM HUNT's, dec'd., together with JOHN HUNT's estate. To prove it MARY MINGE, ANN HUNT, HENRY BLANKS, MARTHA EDLOE; and at Nottoway (Surry Co.) THOMAS Missing page 36 37 He seems to be the CEORGE HUNT, of Westover Parish, Charles City Co., who dated his will 2 November 1725, It was recorded 2 February 1725/26.(42) He did not list a wife or designate any children or grandchildren; but did list: To VALENTINE MINGE, the plantation I live on, l000 acres; to JOHN & GEORGE MINGE, sons of VALENTINE MINGE, dec'd, 400 acres where FRANCIS AUSTING, dec'd, lived and ARNOLLS, plus 200 acres where JAMES BLANKS now lives; to WILLIAM ALLEN for services done me as 'overseer', the Negro man, TOM KEARSEY; the rest of estate to be sold to secure JOHN MACON as my security. Executors were SAMUEL HARWOOD, JR., & JOHN HUNT, SAMUEEL HARWOOD, SR., & CHARLES CHRISTIAN were securities for the executors. His Inventory was dated 7 Feb, 1725/26, recorded 1 March 1725/26 by THOMAS LIDY, THOMAS BLANKS, & THOMAS JACKSON.(42) His Executors, on 1 March 1725/26 deeded to PETER FONTAIN of Charles City Co., the "tract where MARTHA WILKINS now lives on the South side of David Jones Creek, 293 acres, bounded by said Creek, CLIFTON's line, WILLIAM CLARKE, and the James River, which by will said Hunt desired to be sold. "(42) His executors, on 1 Sept. 1726 deeded to JOHN BANISTER, 25 acres in Westover Parish on Fishing Run, purchased by GEORGE HUNT, dec'd, of TURNER HUNT, dec'd, and 5 acres purchased of CAPT. RICHARD BRADFORD, dec'd, by MAJOR WILLIAM HUNT, dec'd. (43) ISSUES: unknown III-F MARTHA HUNT On 13 July 1741 a deed was made in Surry Co., Va. from JOHN (________Edloe) EDLOE to JOHN ALLEN for "land granted to WILLIAM HUNT on 19 Dec, 1711 and willed by him to his daughter MARTHA EDLOE, The land descended to JOHN EDLOE as Heir at Law. They reconveyed the land to Stephens during his lifetime. This was relative to a marriage agreement between SAMUEL STEPHENS & FRANCES CULPEPPER, who married after June 1670 GOVERNOR WM. BERKELEY and then PHILIP LUDWELL, (Ad. of Purse and Person, p 317) GEORGE HUNT was deceased by 3 Aug. 1665, and WILLIAM BUCKNER had married his relict. This was in a court order to WILLIAM BUCKNER to deliver to JOHN BISHOP, for use of WILLIAM BISHOP, a bed, etc., "as they were left at said Buckner's house - also ordered said Bishop to pay Buckner 300 Lbs tobacco for 3 years accommodation of the said WILLIAM BISHOP by the said GEORGE HUNT. A GEORGE HUNT & WILLIAM EPPS witnessed the deed of JOHN HARDYMAN of Prince George Co. to SARAH HARDYMAN on 10 March 1723-24. (Pr. Geo. Families, Vol, 5; Boddie, p 32) GEORGE HUNT owned land adjacent patent of MARK MOORE 1718 on NS of Appomattox River on SS Cattail Ck. Henrico Co. (C & P 3) GEORGE HUNT patented 226 acres in Henrico Co. in 1716 on NS Appomattox River adjacent to JOHN PERKINSON on WS of Cattail Ck.(C & P __ ). This was in Chesterfield Co, by 1749. Page 45 missing 1670, THOMAS HUNT on jury in James City Co, (Va. Col. Abst. Series 2, Vol. 4, p 39) 1673/4, Feb. 23, Discharge from LT. COL. GEORCE JORDON, EXECUTOR OF THOMAS HUNT, to JOHN BARNES, (Surry Co. Rec,; E. T. Davis; p 89; Rec, Bk. 2, p 43) So a THOMAS HUNT was deceased by this date. 1672, THOMAS HUNT gave his age as 21 on a deposition about WILLIAM NEWSOM & JOHN BARNES. (C & P Vol. 2, p 336; Pat, Bk. 81 p 5) 1690 through 1695 Surry Co. Tithable list: TH. HUNT - 1 tith. 1696 Surry Co. Tithable list, above Sunken Marsh, BENJ. HARRISON's Dst: THO. HUNT & THO. HUNT - 2 tithes. (IBID) So here is a 3rd Thomas, - if just coming of tithable age, then born about 1679. 1697 through 1702 Surry Co, Tithable list, upper Prect. of Southward Parish above Stoney Run, WALTER FLOOD's Dst: Page 46 missing 47 By 1688 GODFREY HUNT had deeded to HENRY REEVES, SENIOR, 400 acres, part of a patent of 600 acres patented by him on South side Chuckatuck Creek, called Beaver Dam, adjacent THOMAS OGLETHORPE & lately occupied by BRIDGETT ASKEW, WIDOW; and this 400 acres had descended to HENRY REEVES, JUNIOR, of Rapahanock, who on the above date sold it to THOMAS GODWIN of Chuckatuck reciting the above information. (17th Century IOW Co., Va., Boddie, p 600) In 1687/88 he witnessed the will of THOMAS OGLETHORPE. (Ibid; p 30) By 15 November 1742, GODFREY HUNT was deceased - stated in a deed of WILLIAM ASKEY of N.C. to RICHARD MATHIS of IOW on this date. (The Southside Virginian, Vol. 4, #3, p 137; IOW Deed Book 6, p 173) By 1746 GODFREY HUNT had sold an unidentified amount of land to THOMAS DIXON, SENIOR, who stated in his will of that date that his son, THOMAS DIXON, JUNIOR, had lived on it and he was then leaving it to son, WILLIAM DIXON. (Wills 6 Adm. IOW Co., Va., Chapman; p 157) It is noted that in the 1704 Quit Rent Rolls of Virginia that the following was listed: GODFREY HUNT - 360 acres in Namsemond Co. 600 acres in Isle of Wight Co. 600 acres in Isle of Wight Co. The line changed between Namsemond Co. & Isle of Wight Co. & some of his land possibly fell into Isle of Wight Co. I cannot account for the two listings of 600 acres in IOW Co. ISSUES: NEHEMIAH HUNT - was living in the 1675 will of REBECCA IZARD and was left a legacy as " Nehemiah Hunt, son of Godfrey Hunt."
