Will of Jehu Goff, Sr.

WILL OF JEHU GOFF, SR.

(1818-1883)

         I, Jehu Goff of the County of Suwannee and State of Florida (farmer) declare this to be my last will and testament.
1st.    I give and bequeath to my wife, Jane Goff and my children, present minor heirs by her the following tract or parcel of land, to-wit;
The SW � of SE � of Section 6, Township 3 S., Range 12 East with all and singular the rights, titles, hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to the same to have and to hold the above described premises to the said Jane Goff and the said minor heirs, forever.
2nd.   I also give and bequeath to my said wife, Jane Goff, all my household goods and chattels of whatsoever name or nature of which I may be possessed.
3rd.   I give and bequeath to my don, Daugerfield Godd, one black horse mule, three years old named, Bill and also twenty head of hogs, to have and to hold, forever.
4th.    I give and bequeath to my son, Alexander Goff, a minor, one mouse colored mare mule named, Pet, to have and to hold forever.
5th.   I give and bequeath one hundred and thirty head of cattle, more or less, including all of which I may die seized and possessed to my sons, Jehu Goff, George W. Goff, Winfield Goff and Dangerfield Goff and my daughters, Mary Goff and Francis Goff, children by my first wife, and to my present wife, Jane Goff and Hennie Goff, Alexander Goff Adeline Goff, Henrietta Goff and Filmore Goff, my children by my said present wife and any that may be born to me hereafter to have and to hold, share and share alike forever.
6th.    The bequests herein made to my said wife, Jane Goff are to be in lieu of dower.
7th.   I do hereby nominate and appoint my son, George Goff to be the executor of this my last will and Testament.
         In witness whereof I, Jehu Goff have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal on this the twenty-seventh day of August A. D. 1878.

SUWANNEE COUNTY
     Personally came Wm. F. Bynum, Jr. to me well known as one of the witnesses whose names appear to the foregoing will, who being sworn, says that he, this deponant and M.M. Blackburn in the presence of each other and in the presence and at the request of the Testator, Jehu Goff, did sign their names as witnesses to the above Testament and the said Jrhu Goff, did then in their presence, sign his name and affix his seal, and did then and there acknowledge, declare and publish said instrument to be his last Will and Testament.

     And now comes George W. Goff, who is named as Executor of the aforesaid last Will and Testament and being duly sworn, deposes and says, that he verily believes the Instrument of writing herewith presented to be the last Will and Testament of the said Jehu Goff late of said county, deceased, and prays that the same be admitted to Probate, and that, the Judge of the Court of Probate of said County of issue, letters Testamentory unto this affiant George W. Goff, he being named as Executor in said last Will and Testament.

FLORIDA       IN COUNTY COURT
          BY THE JUDGE OF SAID COURT
     In the matter of the Probate of the Last Will and Testament of Jehu Goff, late of said County deceased, after taking the proof by the affidavit of W.F. Bynum, Jr., one of the subscribing witnesses to said will and George W. Goff, the Executor named in said Will and duly considering the premises, it is ordered that the will of Jehu Goff, having been satisfactorily proven be admitted to Probate and record and that letters Testamentory be issued to George W. Goff, upon his filing his bond in the sum of two thousand dollars, with good and sufficient security for the faithful performance of his duties as executor of said last Will and Testament and taking the oath required by law.
     Given under my hand and seal at Live Oak, this 11th day of January A. D. 1884.

     KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, that we, George W. Goff, J.J. Robinson, J.R. Robinson, J.T. Clark, T.G. Baxter, A.J. McLeod, are held and firmly bound unto William D. Bloxham, Governor of the State of Florida nad his successors in office in the just and full sum of five thousand dollars, for the true payment of which we bind outselves, our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, jointly and severally firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals and dated this eleventh day of January A.D. 1884. The condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounden, George W. Goff, who has been appointed Executor of all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits of Jehu Goff, late of said County deceased, do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, chattels, rights and credits of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession or knowledge of him, the said George W. Goff, Executor of the last Will and Testament of Jehu Goff, deceased, or into the hands of any person or persons for him, the same so nade do cause to be filed in the office of the Judge of the County Court of the County of Suwannee, at or before the 15th day of February A.D. 1884 and all the goods, chattels, rights and credits of the said deceased, at the time of his death of the said deceased, which at any time after shall cause to the hands or possession of the said George W. Goff, Executor as aforesaid or into the hands of any other person or persons for him, do well and truly administer according to law, and further make or cause to be made a true and just account of his administration when required, and all the rest and residue of said goods, chattels, rights and credits which shall be found remaining upon the said executor's account, the same being first examined and allowed by the ounty Court of the County where the said administration is granted, and shall deliver and pay to such person or persons respectively as the Court by their order or decree, prusuant to the true intent and meaning of this act, shall appoint and direct; and if it shall thereafter appear that any last Will and Testament was made by the said deceased and the executor or executors therein named do file the same in the office of the said Court, making request to have it allowed and approved by the said Court then if the said George W. Goff, Executor as aforesaid above bounden being thereunto required, do render and deliver in his said letters of administration, then this obligation to be void and of no effect; otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.

     Before me, M.M. Blackburn, County Judge, in and for said County, personally appeared George W. Goff, who being duly sworn says that Jehu Goff, late of the County aforesaid, died on the ninth day of November A.D. 1883, and that to the best of his knowledge and belief, the said Jehu Goff died leaving a Will and the said Jehu Goff named him to be the Executor thereof, He therefore, further swears that he will well and truly according to law execute the goods, chattels, rights and credits of the said Jehu Goff, deceased, pay the debts in which the said Testator stood bound, so far as the assets will extend and the law direct and make a just, true and perfect inventory and account of the said goods, chattels, rights and credits and of executorship thereof when thereunto required.      George W. STATE OF FLORIDA
SUWANNEE COUNTY     TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, GREETING:
     Wheereas Jehu Goff, late of the County aforesaid, died on the ninth day of November A.D. 1883 leaving a last will and testament which having been satisfactorily proven was on the eleventh day of Jan/ A.D. 1884, duly admitted to probate and record in this Court and as by said last Will and Testament it appears that George W. Goff is named by the Testator as his Executor and the said George W. Goff having the to Court to grant letters Testamentory thereon to him as such executor and having in due form of law taken the prescribed oath, and performed all other acts necessary to his legal qualifications as such executor.
     Now therefore, know ye, that I, M.M. Blackburn, County Judge in and for the County aforesai, by virtue of the power and authority by law in me vested do hereby declare that said George W. Goff is duly qualified by the laws of said state to act as executor of the said last Will and Testament with full power by provisions of law and by virtue of these presents to administer all and singular the goods, chatterls, rights and credits of the said Jehu Goff, and to ask, demand, recover and receive the same, to pay the debts in which the said Jehu Goff stook bound, so far as the assets shall extend and the law direct and duly entitled to have and to hold for the purposes directed in and by the said last will and Testament all the estate of said Jehu Goff during the legal continuance of his administration until the same shall expire by virtue of the provisions of said last Will and Testament or until the power and authority hereby granted shall be duly revoked according to law.
     In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix the seal of the County Court of the County aforesaid at Live Oak, this 12th day of February A.D. 1884
