Breckenridge Family

    The family information collected by Enid Long Barker in the early 20th century gives the spelling of the name as "Brackinridge". It seems likely that the internal letters a, e and i are probably more or less interchangeable.     The outline prepared by Enid reads as follows:
*Brackinridge Family*

Richard Brackinridge (b. 1782 - d. 1845) He came while young from Tennessee and was one of the 1st settlers of Alabama. He cut his foot about the time he reached there and almost bled to death. He stopped at an Indian camp. At one time he almost froze to death in the snow.

He served 2 years with [(in pencil) terms under] Andrew Jackson. An Indian shot at him from behind a bush as he was going into the Battle of the Great Horseshoe Bend (1814) the bullet passing very near his head. He was at the Battle of New Orleans. (1815)

He married a Miss Morgan who had 3 borthers: Merit Morgan, Charles Morgan, John Morgan. All these lived in Meringo Co., Ala. Sally Morgan, a daughter of one of these brother, died in 1874.

        He was a carpenter and lived in Nanafalia, Ala. until a few years before his death, when he moved to Blooming Grove, Texas. They also lived at Avalon, Texas.
