The oldest daughter of Martha Lula Garner and James R Jones, Alice Lucinda, lived to be 101. It was Alice Lucinda who told of her mother's memories of staying with
"Uncle Joe Long" when the family arrived in Williamson County. That was probably after the death of Jackson Garner. "Uncle Joe" was Joseph B. Long, brother of Catherine Long Garner's father. After Garner died in 1867, Mrs. Catherine E. Garner married Winfield Alford in Gonzales County, Texas, in 1868. Some of the Garner children remained in or returned to Caldwell County, after their mother went to Williamson County. Sam Garner was married there in 1873, to Mary Lucinda Halsell, from the Halsell/Cole/Jeffrey family. Their son, Benjamin Franklin Garner lived out his life in Caldwell County, also. All three are buried at the Jeffrey Cemetery near McMahan. Benjamin died in 1965. Martha Lula Garner married James Rutherford Jones, of the Jones/Fleming/Jeffrey clan. James R. Jones and Mary Lucinda Halsell were great grand children of Jeremiah Jeffrey.
