Welcome to the MacCormick Genealogy web site. While researching my MacCormicks, I have encountered many other MacCormicks. I have attempted to list them here as a resource to other MacCormick researchers.
My immediate family uses the MacCormick variation of the name so in my genealogy, I have used that spelling exclusively. In the records, I am leaving the original spelling as I transcribed it. In the past, spelling was more fluid than it is today and we must be aware that our ancestors may have spelt their name differently at different times, especially if they were illiterate and the name was being spelt phonetically by a record keeper. Thus MacCormick is also found as MacCormack, McCormick, McCormack, MacCormaig and McCormaig among others. There is no truth to the myth that the Mc spelling is Irish and the Mac version is Scottish as both are found in Ireland and Scotland.
