George Christian Frederick Bork was born in Prussia in 1750. In 1770 he married Tabitha Chissom, probably in New York state. He served in the Revolutionary War and he is listed in the DAR Patriot's Index but there is no record of his receiving a pension.George C. F. Bork was the first pastor of the First Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Bethlehem, New York which was organized in 1793. He had been educated under Dr. Livingston.
According to the History of Schoharie County by William E. Roscoe, Rev. Christian Bork was ordained in Albany in 1796, and was The first settled minister of the united congregation of Dorlach and Rhinebeck. (click HERE to see transcript of this article). In 1797, Rev. Bork assumed charge of the Reformed Dutch Church of Beaverdam (NYS), in connection with his regular fields of labor at Lawyersville and Sharon, and afterwards at Schodack.
At the time of his wife's death, they were residing on North More Street in New York City and he was minister of the "Church on Franklyn Street".
Information has been found that indicates Rev. Bork was pastor of the North West Reformed Dutch Church of the City of New York (aka Sugar Loaf), on Franklin Street in New York City. This church later was known as the Madison Ave Reformed Church.
Christian and Tabitha had twelve children; the eldest being Peter Bork. Some time prior to 1814 Peter came to Oneida County, New York and settled in the town of Lee. He appears on the Lee Town Assement list for 1814. A deed dated 1839 (click HERE to read this deed) was located on the Oneida County Courthouse for the purchase of a portion of land in Lot 17 in the Town of Lee.
Little information has been found on Peter's siblings although several baptism dates & locations were found on the LDS Church Family Search site. These dates & locations have not been personally verified.
