Joseph Mansfield was born in Danbury, Fairfield, Connecticut in 1769. He married Chloe Knapp, daughter of John & Ruth Gregory Knapp in Danbury. In the North Main Street Cemetery in Danbury, Connecticut there is a tombstone which reads:

This could be the same Joseph Mansfield. No burial location has been found for Chloe.
Levi Mansfield, the eldest son of Joseph, married Lucy Comstock in Danbury, Connecticut and moved to Westmoreland, Oneida County, New York prior to 1820. According to the Bartlett Baptist Church Records, Vol. I, pg. 4, on June 21, 1818, Levi & Lucy Mansfield were received by a letter from the Danbury Church. In Vol. I, pg. 14, January 29, 1831, Sister Lucy Mansfield was given of letter of commendation to join the Utica Church. On pg. 24 Levi Mansfield was excluded. There was no date on this but it would be after 1830, before 1835. No date of death nor tombstone has been found for Levi. It is most likely that he died sometime between 1850 and 1860. He is listed on the 1850 census but was not found on the 1860 census. On the 1860 census Lucy is residing with her daughter and son-in-law, Harriet and Lyman Wallace. Lucy is buried on the Bellinger plot in the Westmoreland Union Cemetery.
