Java was taken from the Town of China (which is now Arcade) on April 20, 1832.

Hamlets of Java are North Java, Southburg (first known as Williamsville and then Williamsburg for Hiram Williams, one of it's early settlers), Curriers (first known as Fox's Corners), Java Center, Java Village, East Java (Java Lake) and Strykersville.
