The Family OfStephen John TROON and Willa BARTLE
|
|
|
Stephen John Troon was born
1870-1873 in Ludgvan, Cornwall, England.
Thus far, my research indicates his parents were Stephen and Ellen;
that Ellen was a tailoress born about 1852; and that John had a younger
brother William Henry Troon. I would
greatly appreciate any further information about this Troon family. John came alone (so far as I know)
to the United States about 1890, settling first at Mifflin, Iowa County,
Wisconsin. He was a blacksmith. On June 22,
1898, John married Willa Teresa Bartle at the Primitive Methodist Church in
Platteville, Grant Co, WI. Willa was
born June 22, 1880 at Dodgeville, Iowa Co, WI. She was the daughter of James Henry BARTLE and Jennie ROGERS. John and
Willa lived in Livingston, Grant Co, WI in 1899 and Dodgeville in 1900, then
settled in Magnolia, Rock Co, WI where John operated his blacksmith shop for
many years. About 1917, the family
moved into the city of Janesville, Rock Co, WI and John took his skills to
the Chevrolet plant. They lived at
315 South Bluff Street, now known as South Parker Drive, the rest of their
lives. They were members of the
Methodist Church and John was a Mason. John died
June 22, 1945. Willa died February
16, 1956. They are buried at Milton
Lawns Memorial Park in Janesville. The children
of John and Willa are: Charles LeRoy Troon, born July
17, 1899 in Livingston, Grant Co, WI; died December 9, 1975 in Beloit, Rock
Co, WI. He married
Grace E. LANGE October 4, 1924 in Janesville, Rock Co, WI, the daughter of
William LANGE and Anna BOHLS. Grace
was born October 4, 1902 in Evansville, Rock Co, WI; died November 5, 1970 in
Rock Co, WI. They settled in Beloit
where Roy worked as a pattern maker at Yates American for more than 25 years. They had no children. Elsie
Mae Troon,
born September 25, 1902 in Magnolia, Rock Co, WI; died October 4, 1980 in
Rock Co, WI. She graduated from
Janesville High School and Rock County Normal school, then taught rural
school for several years. She married
Harry Oliver SAEVRE June 23, 1938 in
Orfordville, Rock Co, WI, the son of Ole O SAEVRE and Pauline FOSLIN. Harry was born July 17, 1899 in Spring
Valley Township, Rock Co, WI; died December 19, 1982 in Rock Co, WI. They settled near Orfordville and Elsie
was active in 4-H clubs for more than 20 years. They had two daughters. Lester John
Troon, born June 28, 1904 in Magnolia, Rock Co, WI; died January 3,
1977 in Rock Co, WI. He married Helen

Janesville General Motors plant for many years. They had six children. Curtis

the Lansing, Michigan area. Iva Lucille

in Hemet, Riverside Co, California.
Connie graduated from Janesville High School. She was a teacher and then worked for the
Parker Pen Company. She married
Richard Garfield OLDS, son of Richard G OLDS and Elizabeth TROON, before
1945. Richard was born April 18, 1909

Though I took great care in my
research, you can be sure to find errors ranging from typos to
misinterpretations to inaccurate assumptions. Please forgive me. In cases where I wasn’t sure about
the accuracy of facts, I tried to make the uncertainty clear in my
presentation or else left the data out.
I personally researched and verified
almost all the data you see on this page.
Some of the sources I used were:
vital records, such as birth, marriage, and death records; published
newspaper accounts of events, including marriage announcements and
obituaries; census records; city directories; and high school year
books. Please contact me for source information applying to
specific data. Thank you Dottie McCrumb, Curtis
Troon’s great-granddaughter, for information about Curtis and his branch of
the family. |
