North Carolina                       James Trotter                        1720       Colonial & State Records of NC.
In about 1720 we find that several families with the Trotter surname from the Colonies started to move into North Carolina. In many records the name of James Trotter start to appear about 1725 through 1756. “This one could not be our James Trotter as he was being born at that time, but is possible that he does connect to our James Trotter through a son of the first James Trotter being mentioned around the years of 1725.”  Most of the records that were found were in Edenton, NC.
In the letter of Wm. B. Trotter about the Trotter Estate he mentioned that Caroline Dill was buried in NC.  This would make more sense if we can connect our Trotter lines to those in NC.  This would be a reason why she was buried there.  Did she move there after William died to be with one of her children??

I found this very interesting,
Trotter, John Bernard (1775-1818), author, born in 1775 in Co. Down, was the second son of the Rev. Edward Trotter, and younger brother of Edward Southwell Trotter, “who assumed the name of Ruthven”
(this is proof that at one time the Trotter name was that of Ruthven, but took the name of Trotter from his wife.)  “Still not any proof that this is our line of Trotter though.”

Lexington, Ky.                    Col. John Trotter & Family              1791-1827                Historical Collection
The family of Col. John Trotter listed in the Collections of “The New England Historical and Genealogical Society. This line of Trotters came from Va. And then into Lexington, KY areas. There is a Trotter Graveyard mentioned also being just beyond the city limits of Lexington, to the right of the Tte’s creek pike. Only one headstone remains to indicate its location, and that of a stranger. The dressed stones that supported the arch of the vault have all been carried away and there only remais a large mound of yellow clay upon which even the generous bluse grass refusese to grow. The broken fragments of the headstone, which marked the grave of Col. Trotter lie scattered around it.
I read in an article that was in the Lexington Paper that the DAR had placed some headstones there for Gen. George Trotter grandson of Col. James Trotter and son of Col. John Trotter about 5 years ago.
This line of Trotter are to be the ones that connect to the Ruthven family lines. I have never found the proof that they connect to them but for some unknown reason this line of Trotter family believes that they connect to the Ruthven line.
