Last Will and Testament of John Field. State of South Carolina, Pickens District. I, John
Field, Sen'r., being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be
Almighty God for the same, do testament in manner and form following, that is to say:
First, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Rehab the free privilege of six hundred
acres of land where I now live to remain her right and property during her natural life
then to be sold and equally divided between my own children. I also give and bequeath unto
my wife Rehab Isaac and Joanna and her two children Dick and Ben with all her future
increase forever to do and dispose of as she pleases. I also give and bequeath unto my
wife Rehab forever one road waggon and harness also the waggon saddle and harness also her
own saddle also one sorrel horse and one sorrel mare two cows and calves her own head of
sheep and all the old corn that is in the cribs and all the oats and fodder that is in the
farm and all the present crop that is growing all the household and kitchen furniture and
all the meat hanging in the smokehouse also all my ready money and cash notes and also my
rifle and shot gun and also my farming tools consisting of ploughs, hoes, mattocks, axes,
etc. also one patent fan also two clocks her own choice; my will is that my old negro
woman Rose should be put up and sold to the lowest bidder to some man who will treat her
with humanity and the amount to be paid out of the proceeds of the sale of the other
slave. And lastly, as to all the rest, residue and remainder of my real and personal
estate, goods and chattels of what kind and nature soever to be sold by the Executor and
equally divided among my own children.
And lastly Joseph
Trotter
whom I hereby appoint sole Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all
former wills by me made.

undersigned Heirs at Law of James Gilliland decsd. Humbly petition your court to divide or
sell the real Estate of said decsd, in said District and State afforesaid on Adams Creek
waters of Oolenoy adjoining Lands of James H. Ambler, Joseph Massingale and others
containing 100 acres more or less. The following are the Heirs: Mary Ann Gilliland, widow,
entitled to one third of the proceeds; Melinda Roper, Elizabeth Trotters heirs, Jesse
Simons and wife Matilda, the heirs of Eliza
Trotter decsd, Andrew
Simmons and wife Rebeca Emily C. Gilliland, James A. Gilliland, Elijah H. Gilliland, David
Gilliland for which your petitioners will ever pray. Isam Simmons (X), Nancy Simmons (X).

Each of your are hereby required to appear at the Court of Ordinary to be holden at
Pickens Court house in the District of Pickens and state afforesaid on Monday the 30th day
of Augt inst and shew cause if any you can why the real estate of James Gilliland decsd
situate in Pickens District on Adams Creek adjoining Lands of James H. Ambler, Joseph
Massingale and others containing 100 acres more or less should not be sold and divided

South Carolina, Pickens District. In the Court of Ordinary. The undersigned having
purchased an interest in the Real Estate of Nathaniel Duncan deceased humbly petitions
your Court to sell the said Real Estate as soon as is consistent with your order. The said
Real Estate is situated in said District and state aforesaid on the head waters of Georges
Creek waters of Saluda River adjoining lands of Moses Hendricks, J. R. Trotter and
others containing 196 acres more or less. The following are the heirs viz David Duncan,
James Hit & wife Elendor, Nathaniel Duncan, John C. Duncan, Samuel P. Brazeale and
wife Sarah Ann, sold for distribution among the above named heirs which are all in this

Eleanor A. Haynes, daughter of Wm.
Trotter, was born in Russell county, Ala., April 11, 1823; married Wilson
B. Edwards, August 10, 1843, who having died in 1862 in the war, she married John W.
Haynes, her surviving husband, Dec. 4th 1867, and died October 27th 1873. She leaves
several children by her first husband.
