INTRODUCTION
Most all of the records within this site were originally gathered by D.A. (Duard Arnold, “Dan”) Tucker and his wife Elsie over a period of about 25 years while researching Tucker and related lines. He traveled over the U.S. and communicated with many other Tuckers of older and younger generations and their connections. Many take for granted the ease of accessing internet records available today. However there are many files that can still be accessed only by physically going to the source of record. From his research he compiled and printed My Tucker Family (SC to MS to AR) in 1988, as well as books on corresponding families in his family line: Coats, Hamilton, and Faulker. After he completed research on his ancestors and had books printed, he continued to gather information with an aim to try to document as many Tuckers as possible for the benefit of others who were continuing to research their family trees, and to make his effort available. Over this period he accumulated a lot of handwritten work papers, notepads, binders, etc. filled information related to the Tucker—Coats—Hamilton--Faulkner families (and others related) as well as Perry and Averyt research done by his wife Elsie on her own linage. With aging and later becoming ill, D.A. Tucker died in 1999. Elsie died in 2005.
Some of Mr. Tucker’s work papers were donated to others who could benefit from his efforts. Others were inadvertently damaged or discarded. But still a large mass of material remained at the home. These notes are transcribed here with names as written and read only with an occasional note inserted when more explanation is known or available. Please keep in mind that the original documents in courthouses from census takers, etc. were also written in their day as they were heard and believed to be spelled, and one can usually find more than one spelling for a particular name. Check all possibilities.
This is an on-going project as more information will continue to be added from the large source of information related to their research. Also keep in mind as noted above, that it is possible that the records given are not an entire compilation of what may be available in particular state or local records. This is simply a listing of what is available from Mr. Tucker’s own work papers and notes, and a quick search may be of value to many who find what they’re looking for within the information provided herein as a partial compilation of his Tucker files.
Since these records were written according to how the microfilm and records were read at the time of his research, these should not be considered absolute but merely a guide to others who may view what is available and then check the local resources available for verification. In some cases, letters were written by those of Mr. Tucker’s generation, giving family histories according to their Bibles or old family lists as well as personal memory or family story. Please be aware that sometimes dates may differ according to applications of marriage licenses, actual ceremonies or solemnization of marriages and when they are recorded.
It will also be helpful to understand territorial lines of cities, counties and states during various years as they changed throughout the years. Check the link for maps which may be helpful; other links will be added at a later time. There has been some additional Tucker information added due to later communication between other Tuckers seeking information from his family in later years and providing some areas of their own research. Again, this information provided is meant to be merely a guide to eventually point you to particular locations for authoritative verification.
Hopefully you find this compilation of Tucker files helpful to your own search.
