Obituary Departed this life at his home near this city on February 5th, 1884, Joseph C. Powell in the 49th year of his age. Joseph C. Powell was born in Washington Co., Ohio, removing in his early boyhood with his parents to the State of Virginia, coming from thence to Kansas in 1856, settling in Wyandotte Co. where for many years he underwent the hardships and privations of frontier life. In 1874 he settled in this (Woodson) county where he has since resided and by his modest and cheerful demeanor, and concientious endeavors to fill well the station in life in which his circumstances had placed him, he had won a most enviable position in the confidence and affections of his neighbors. While yet in his teens he became a member of the Christian Church of which he remained a consistent and zealous member until the time of his departure, having for the last eight years filled the responsible position of Elder of the church worshipping here. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, the Knights of Pythias, and the A.O.U.W. For the last two years he has been in the employ of the St. Louis, Ft. Scott and Wichita Railroad, where he had won the complete confidence of his employers and was at the time of his death foreman of the water service of the road. The funeral services were in charge of the Masonic Fraternity assisted by the K. of P. and A.O.U.W., Rev. B. H. Smith of Ft. Scott, preaching the discourse at the Christian church. The deceased leaves a wife and large family of children for whom the profoundest sympathy is felt throughout the entire community. His death is a loss to the the whole community who will long remember his virtues and his amiable conduct and mourn the fateful providence that took him from them.

Obituary-Charles C. Tustison Charles C. Tustison, son of George W. and Catherine Tustison was born July 21, 1869 at Labette, now Parsons, Kansas. He died October 4, 1946 at the age of 77 years and 2 months at his home in Yates Center. Charles early boyhood was spent in Illinois and Iowa. He returned to Woodson County with his parents when he was 17 years of age. At this time Charles turned to a trade that that he followed the remainder of his life, serving first as an apprentice to a carpenter and then following the trade on his own. During the 60 years of his life in Woodson county he was active in building homes and business houses over the entire county. On March 23, 1893 he was married to Dora Powell of Woodson county. To this union five children were born, two daughters and three sons; Florence, Lillian Catherine, Joseph, Albert and Charles Howard. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lillian Catherine, who died in infancy, and by two sons, Joseph and Charles Howard who gave their lives in the sevice of their country during World War II. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Dora of the home address, his daughter, Mrs. Florence Stoll of Woodson county, and one son, Albert of Kansas City, Mo. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, October 6 at 2:30 from the Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. H. G. Walker officiating assisted by Rev. Miles C. Cook. The Ministers Alliance Quartet sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "That Beautiful Land". The casket bearers were E. E. Lambert, Joe Ross, L. W. Mahon, Carl Harder, Earl Jones and Dean Randall. Burial was in Yates Center Cemetery.
