Jason Hearns was born about 1771, believed in Phillipse Patent, Dutchess County (later Putnam), the son of Thomas Harns, U.E. and Deborah Campbell. It is believed that Jason is the second boy under 10 years of age listed in the "List of Loyalists of and attached to the Kings late Rangers victualled at the 3d Township above Cataraqui [Fredericksburgh] Between 1st July and 31st August 1786."

JasonHearns was baptized by Reverend Langhorn in Fredericksburgh on February 20, 1788 along with siblings Johnson, Thomas Jr., Darius and Jerusha.

Jason married his wife Rebecca (last name unknown) of Fredericksburgh Twp.

In 1798 Jason must have been at odds with Mary Herns as she brings charges against him for assault and battery. He had to appear in court on January 23, 1799 to answer these charges accoring to Court of Quarter Sessions of the Peace for Mecklenburg/Midland District. Those defending Jason were Josiah and Jane. By his father's Will which was probated 1803, Jason Herns received Lot #71 in Concession #1 of Amelliasburgh, Prince Edward County ( see survey) where he settled with his wife Rebecca and where their children were born. The children born to Jason and Rebecca were: Thomas Harnes 1800 - 1848; Deborah Harnes; Abigail Harnes 1803 - 1856; Jason Harnes 1812 - 1885.

Grants of Crown Lands in Upper Canada 1796-1798 show Jason as 'Jasin Harnes' on p. 92 and as 'Jason Yearns' on page 64 of the Original Settlers of Cramahe

The Children of Jason and Rebecca

Thomas Hearns was born 1800 in Adolphustown, and died December 26, 1848. He married Catherine Tice, who was born in 1804 in Ameliasburg, the daughter of neighbour Henry Tice of Ameliasburgh Twp. (Henry is shown on the Return of the Inhabitants of Adolphustown, March 28, 1794 as having one adult man and two adult women in the household).
On the Militia list of 1822, Thomas Harns gives his age as 22 years. Thomas and Catharine had three sons, of whom two died as young men. The third son Jesse W. Hearns was born 1834 and died 1856 and married Naomi L. Burr 1836-1909. Some time after 1850 the widow Catharine and son Jesse W. Hearns moved to Lot 76 on the 4th Concession of Ameliasburgh Twp. and here Jesse Wellington Hearns was born in 1855 (died 1917). He married Catharine Denike and had four children -- Blake, Vera, Gladwin and Ewart. The Hearns family continued to live on this homestead until the death of Gladwin (Gladdy) in year 1975.

Abigail Hearns was born in 1803 and died 1856. She married Frederick Post (born 1799 and died 1866) of Thurlow Township. He was son of John Post of Ameliasburgh Township.

Deborah Hearns was born 1806 and died 1857. She married John L. Wannamaker, (born 1808 died 1847).
