Theresa Native, is Dead

Mrs. Evelyn Yost Mairs, 64, native of Theresa, wife of Robert C. Mairs, Demarest, N. J., died Monday night in a hospital at Demarest.

She was born in Theresa, Dec. 13, 1886, a daughter of Charles G. and Anna Kimball Yost. She had spent most of her life in New York

Surviving besides her husband are a son, Robert C., jr., a grandson, both of Demarest; a sister, Mrs. R. A. Swain, Monrovia, Calif., and two aunts, Mrs. C. A. Mack, Watertown, and Mrs. Howell Ostrander, Theresa.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning from the Mortiz funeral home, Closter, N. J. Burial will be in Munsey.

John Amos Merritt, six-weeks-old son of Fred W. and Geraldine Karcher Merritt, 586 West Prospect street, died at 6:30 Wednesday evening in the Mercy hospital. The child was born at the hospital Jan. 6 and had been there since birth.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 at the Howland Funeral chapel. Rev. Condit N. Eddy, rector of St. Paul�s Episcopal church, will officiate. Burial will be made in North Watertown cemetery.

Surviving him, besides his parents, are a brother, Fred Robert Merritt; three sisters, Dolores, Georgia and Sandra Merritt; his maternal grandfather, Amos C. Karcher, city, and his maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. John Karcher, Naumburg.

Mrs. Mary B. Moore

Redwood -- Mrs. Mary B. Moore, 95, widow of Emmett J. Moore, died Sunday, in the Edward John Noble hospital, Alexandria Bay, where she had been a patient since Wednesday.

The funeral was Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the family home and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier church, with Rev. Robert L. Cotter, pastor, officiating. Burial was in ST. Francis Xavier cemetery.

Surviving are two sons, Robert D., Syracuse, and Kenneth G., Cleveland, Ohio; four daughters, Miss Alice Moore and Mrs. Howard (Elizabeth) Hax, both of Redwood, Mrs. Ewell (Ruth) Boles, Washington, D. C., and Miss Grace R. Moore, Watertown, and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Moore was born in Plattsburgh, July 12, 1870, a daughter of James and Mary Quinn Boswell. She attended schools in Plattsburgh and was married to Emmett G. Moore in 1907. The couple operated a farm in the town of Alexandria until 18 years ago, when Mr. Moore retired and they moved to Redwood. Mr. Moore died July 8, 1956.

Mrs. Moore was a member of the Altar and Rosary society of St. Francis Xavier church.

Clifton May of Alexandria Bay Dies

ALEXANDRIA BAY -- Clifton May, 80, of 88 Walton St., died Tuesday evening at Edward John Noble Hospital, where he had been admitted earlier in the day.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Giltz Funeral Home, with Rev. Winifrerd Daughen, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Wellesley Island.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

A Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday.

He is survived by two sons, Paul C., Watertown, and Fred D., Liverpool; a daughter, Mrs. Norman (Sharon) Peckham, Watertown, and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Born on July 16, 1905, in Ontario, Canada, the son of David and Amy Mallory May, he was raised in Mallorytown, Ont.

He married Helen Florence Hogaboom on Aug. 1, 1953.

They lived on Wellesley Island and later moved to Walton St., Alexandria Bay.

Mrs. May died in April of 1977.

Mr. May worked as a caretaker for the J. S. Hammond residence.

He also worked as village clerk for many years.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Alexandria Bay, 297, where he was a past master and past district deputy grand master of the Jefferson and Lewis districts.

Elizabeth Megan, Redwood, Dies at Age 83

REDWOOD -- Elizabeth Megan, 83, Krings Point Road, former owner of Pine Bay Farms Inc. tourist cottages, died Wednesday at her home where she had been in failing health for one year.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with the Rev. James L. Meehan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa.

There will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to Edward John Noble Hospital, Alexandria Bay, the American Cancer Society or the Jefferson County Heart Association.

Surviving three sons, William F., Jr., and Thomas P., both of Redwood, and John P., Tampa, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. John (Barbara) Jahn, Jenson Beach, Fla., Mrs. Frederick (Margaret) Sidebotham, Rochester, and Mrs. Albert (Kathleen) Graham, Redwood; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a sister, Margaret Volkert, Patchogue.

A brother, George Mohn, died previously.

Born Jan. 11, 1911, in Brooklyn, a daughter of George and Barbara Mahrer Mohn, she attended Brooklyn schools.

She married William F. Megan, St., Nov. 27, 1930, at Our Lady of the Cenacle Church, Richmond Hill, with Rev. John Sullivan, officiating. The couple owned and operated Megan Hardware, Queens Village.

Upon their retirement in 1950 they moved to Redwood, where they had purchased 250 acres of land along the St. Lawrence River in 1944. They built their family home and in 1952 formed Pine Bay Farms Inc., a tourist cottage business which Mrs. Megan continued to run following the death of her husband in 1973.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, a volunteer at Edward John Noble Hospital, a former member of Redwood High School Parent-Teacher Association and a religion instructor at St. Francis Xavier Church and St. Cyril�s Church, Alexandria Bay.

Ray W. Merrill, Lawyer

Attorney Ray Waldo Merrill, 80, former head of the Watertown law firm of Merrill, Bigness & Taylor, who retired in 1955 after 54 years of law practice, died this morning at 8:05 in the Canandaigua Health home of Canandaigua, where he had been a patient about six months.

Attorney Merrill, a resident of this city for 40 years, moved to Canandaigua in October, 1955 after withdrawing from the firm of Merrill, Bigness & Taylor, composed of himself, Attorney Reginald P. Bigness and Attorney Donald L. Taylor, and retiring from practice.

He made his residence in Canandaigua because two of his sons, Dr. Erwin C. Merrill, a surgeon, and Dr. Malcolm M. Merritt, a practicing physician, are located there.

Also surviving him are another son, Dr. Reginald G. Merrill, Geneva, a dentist; a daughter, Mrs. Kennth G. (Ellen W.) Marmon, Merrysville, Tenn., and a sister, Mrs. Otto B. Davis, Tampa, Fla.

Another son, Sgt. Samuel M. Merrill of the U. S. army, was killed in action during World War II at Omaha Beach, France.

Attorney Merrill�s wife, Mrs. Myrtle Collinson Merrill, died Feb. 18, 1932 in a Syracuse hospital at the age of 46 years.

Attorney Merrill had been afflicted with a heart condition and had been in poor health for the past few years, particularly during the last three years.

The body will be brought to Watertown for the funeral, expected to be Monday, and the burial will be in the Champion cemetery.

He was born at Carthage, Jan. 28, 1878, a son of Capt. Erwin Moses and Ellen M. Gates Merrill. He was descended from Nathaniel Merrill, who was born in England about 1610 and became one of the original proprietors and settlers of Newbury, Mass., in 1635. Attorney Merrill�s father served in the Civil war with Company I, 94th New York Volunteer Infantry, enlisting in 1861 after teaching school.

Coletta M. Meister
Retired Farmer

CARTHAGE -- Coletta M. Meister, 89, formerly of Old State Road, died late Saturday at Hallmark Nursing Centre, where she had resided since Dec. 10, 1996.

Mrs. Meister and her husband, Clinton, owned and operated a farm on the Meister homestead for many years.

Born July 31, 1908, at Deer River, daughter of Carl J. and Mary B. Taylor Plopper, she attended Deer River school. She married Clinton D. Meister on Jan. 12, 1928, at the Methodist parsonage at Beaver Falls.

The couple moved in 1964 to their Old State Road home. Mr. Meister died Dec. 28, 1`971.

Mrs. Meister was a former member of Brady Acres Senior Citizens group and Home Bureau.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Catherine) Shettleton and Mrs. James (Bernice) Astafan, both of Carthage; a half brother, Leon Kidney, Blossville, eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

A son, David, died June 17, and a daughter, Dorothy Hoppel, died May 9, 1989. A brother, Glen Plopper, and a sister, Hazel Howard, also died before her.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home with the Rev. Allan J. Ferguson, pastor of Beaver Valley United Methodist Church, Naumburg, officiating. Spring burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Naumburg.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to Hallmark Nursing Centre Activity Fund.

Miss Carrie A. Matthews (1950)

Miss Carrie A. Matthews, 85, one-time resident of Theresa, Carthage and Watertown and sister of A. Thomas Matthews, of 318 William street, died this morning at 5 in a nursing home in Asheville, N. C.

Funeral services will be held at the Reed & Benoit funeral home here Friday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. Thomas J. Carlisle, pastor of the Stone Street Presbyterian church, will officiate. Burial will be made at Theresa.

The body will arrive here by train at 9:05 Wednesday night and be removed to the funeral home, where friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening from 8 to 10.

Surviving Miss Matthews, besides her brother, are two nephews, Richard P. Matthews and Frederick T. Matthews, city; a niece, Mrs. Virginia Linbarger Webb, Seattle, Wash., and three cousins.

Miss Matthews had been ill since Jan. 11 when she slipped and fell while entering her apartment in Asheville and fractured a hip. She was a patient in a hospital until a week ago when she was transferred to the nursing home.

She was born Jan. 6, 1865 at Theresa, a daughter of the late Samuel T. and Amanda Snell Matthews. She was educated at Theresa. The family later lived in Carthage for years. Miss Matthews subsequently lived in this city for a time, moving south about 40 years ago.

Miss Matthews lived in Miami and St. Augustine, Fla., before moving to Asheville 15 or 20 years ago.

She last visited here in 1948.

Frank Montando, Theresa, Dies Monday
Funeral Held Wednesday With Burial in the Family Plot in Oakwood Cemetery

Theresa: Frank Montando, age 69, died at 8:30 on Monday morning at the Central hospital, where he has been a patient since Feb. 3. He was born in Theresa, Nov. 14, 1871, a son of Frank and Della Duffany Montando. He was a painter by trade. His first wife was Miss Edna Clark of Philadelphia. After her death he married Mrs. Pearl Simmons.

Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Della, and two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Gurlt and Mrs. George Schultz, both of Theresa.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10 from the home. Burial was made in the family plot in the Oakwood cemetery.

Clifford McCormick, 44

Redwood -- Clifford Robert McCormick, 44, Redwood,-Ogdensburg road, died of a coronary attack on Monday morning, May 20 at 4:00 at the Edward John Noble hospital, Alexandria Bay were he had been a patient since May 10, when he had suffered a heart seizure at his home.

Funeral services will be held today, (Thursday), at 2 p.m. at the Quincer funeral home with Rev. Thomas C. Brotherton, pastor of the South Hammond community church officiating. Burial will be in the Redwood cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elva Dillin McCormick, Hammond; one son, Clifford R. McCormick, jr., Philadelphia; three daughters, Patricia Ann, 16; Renee Emma, 13, and Kandy K., 6, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Annie McCormick Burns, Norfolk; three sisters; three brothers, and one granddaughter.

Mr. McCormick was born in Penmore, Ont. Feb. 25, 1919, the son of John and Annie McCormick. He was educated in Norfolk schools where the family had moved from Canada when he was 11 months old. He was married to Miss Elva R. Dillin on June 13, 1940, by the Rev. Scofield, pastor of the Methodist church in Gouverneur.

The couple made their home in the town of Calaboga until he entered the U. S. navy in Jan., 1944. He saw active duty in the Pacific theater aboard the U. S. S. Guam near Korea and Okinawa and was discharged in Dec. 1945.

In June 1947 they bought a house in Hammond and he was employed by the town of Hammond. In 1949, they purchased the farm near the St. Lawrence county line where they resided at the time of his death. In 1955 and �56, Mr. McCormick was a grader engineer on the St. Lawrence Seaway project. Since then he worked the farm and was employed by the �Multi Colored� Sandstone company of Redwood.

He was a member of the Norfolk Methodist church.

Mabel Moore

Alexandria Bay -- Mabel M. Moore of 23 Rock Street, former Town of Alexandria town clerk, and widow of J. Milo Moore, died Oct. 16 at E. J. Noble Hospital where she had been a patient for about three weeks.

The funeral is tentatively scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the Giltz Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay.

Mrs. Moore is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Parker Durnin of Jim Thorpe, Pa.; a son, Fred H. Moore of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a niece; Barbara Handschuh of LaFargeville; and two sisters, Hazel Stobie and Lottie Hinman, both of Watertown; and cousins.

Donations may be made in her name to the United Methodist Church of Alexandria Bay or the Alexandria Bay Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Moore was born in the Town of Alexandria, daughter of Allen and Hattie West Hinman, and lived there all her life. She was married to Raymond Parker on Nov. 23, 1921.

They had one daughter, Evelyn Parker Durno (sic). Mr. Parker died Nov. 3, 1924. She married J. Milo Moore Nov. 14, 1926. Mr. Moore died May 28, 1978.

Mrs. Moore lived on a farm one mile from Alexandria Bay for 32 years, moving to Alexandria Bay Nov. 18, 1957.

Mrs. Moore was elected town clerk in November 1957, and served in that office for 13 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1970.

Mrs. Moore was very active in Rebekah Lodge, for which she held the office of treasurer for a number of years. She was also active in the nutritional dinners program, and with the senior citizens, for which she was treasurer for some time.

DEXTER -- Mrs. Dolores McConnell, 73, Route 2, died at her home Friday morning after an illness of several months.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the United Church of Sackets Harbor, with Rev. James Cortelyou, pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Sackets Harbor.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson Funeral Home.

Surviving are two sons, Gary, Watertown, and Gerald, Jamestown, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A brother, Richard Dorr, died in 1966.

She was born May 30, 1914, the daughter of Arthur and Bertha Crawford Dorr.

She was graduated from Watertown High School and later Potsdam Normal School. She taught elementary school during the mid-1930s and later at Sackets Harbor High School from 1959 to 1960.

She married Woodrow W. McConnell on Sept. 21, 1940, at Pillar Point. The couple operated dairy farms in Philadelphia, Cape Vincent and Gunns Corners. From 1965 to 1972 the couple operated a gas station/grocery store in Depauville. She and her husband distributed Syracuse newspapers several years starting in 1973. Mr. McConnell died Oct. 24, 1978.

Grace �Concetta� Leana Molinari, 80, of 612 Bronson St., died at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the emergency room at the House of the Good Samaritan.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the D. L. Calarco Funeral Home and 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Burial will be in Glenwood Chapel Mausoleum.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Surviving are her husband, Dominic; a son, Frank P., Central Square; five grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Anthony (Carmel) Folino, Alexandria Bay, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Cali, North Syracuse, Mrs. Ralph (Rose) Amitrano, San Marcos, Calif., and Josephine and Angelina Leana, both of Watertown; several nieces and nephews.

A son, Joseph V., died Oct. 20, 1990, and a brother, Joseph Leana, was killed in World War II.

Born May 10, 1912, in Carthage, daughter of Dominick and Mary Frances Leana, she attended Carthage schools and was a machine operator at the Jefferson Manufacturing Co. before her marriage.

She married Dominic Molinari Nov. 23, 1939, in St. Anthony�s church with the Rev. James J. Quinn, then assistant pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Molinari was a communicant of Holy Family Church.

Carl J. Manning, Ex-Railroad Employe, Dies

REDWOOD -- Carl J. Manning, 87, retired employe of the New York Central Railroad, died Saturday morning in the Edward John Noble Hospital Extended Care Facility, Alexandria Bay, where he has been a patient for 10 years.

There will be no funeral services and no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family at St. Cyril�s Catholic Church, Alexandria Bay.

Burial will be in Redwood Cemetery. Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa. Donations may be made to the Edward John Noble Memorial Fund, Alexandria Bay.

Surviving are a son, Charles, Redwood; a grandson, William, Fort Hood, Texas; three granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; and a sister, Katie Manning, Ogdensburg.

He was born Aug. 29, 1901, in Theresa, a son of Charles and Caroline Baker Manning. He was educated in the local area schools and employed by the New York Central Railroad from 1926 until he retired in 1955.

Mr. Manning married Katherine L. Pritty on July 14, 1933. Mrs. Manning died on Nov. 8, 1961.

FUNERAL HELD FOR THOMAS J. MARTIN,
KILLED IN ACCIDENT

Funeral services for Thomas J. Martin, 80, prominent Redwood resident, who was killed about 6:30 Wednesday night when he was struck by a truck in Redwood, were held at 1:30 this afternoon at the home of his son, Postmaster Louis S. Martin of Redwood.

Rev. Louis Bruce, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church of Plessis, officiated. A Masonic service was held under the auspices of Alexandria Bay. Burial was made in the Redwood cemetery.

The bearers were: Carol O. Bickelhaupt, Floyd O. White, Robert E. Kabel, Richard I. Gates, Albert W. Elliott and Olin Spies, Redwood.

Assistant District Attorney Roy A. Fuller expected to complete the inquest into the death of Mr. Martin this afternoon or Saturday. He has already questioned Ralph Misercola, 20, of 300 Haney street, driver of the fruit and vegetable truck which struck Mr. Martin; James V. Pacella, 21, of 171 Haney Street, passenger in the truck and Trooper A. J. (incomplete)

Stephen M. Makepeace

Drowned While Duck Hunting

Stephen M. Makepeace, 15, of Plessis, was drowned about 11:25 Sunday morning when his 16-foot aluminum canoe overturned while he was duck hunting on Mud lake near Redwood. The body was recovered an hour later. The boy was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul C. Makepeace.

The victim and a companion, Robert J. Hax, 16, of Redwood, had gone hunting at 5:30 a.m. and were in a duck blind on the eastern shore of the lake when Makepeace decided to go out alone in the canoe.

Hax told Deputy Sheriff Gary J. Ellingsworth that the boy paddled out of sight in a marsh section located about 200 yards south of the blind.

A few minutes later, Hax heard a blast from a shotgun and decided to investigate. He walked along the shore and spotted the overturned canoe, but saw no sign of his companion. Hax ran to the nearly Catlin farm and was driven to a Redwood service station where he telephoned the sheriff�s office.

Two Redwood men, Robert L. Rogers and Charles H. Atkinson, recovered the body after conducting dragging operations from a boat.

Dr. Robert B. Burtch, Alexandria Bay, appointed coroner�s physician, pronounced the youth dead. The body was released to the Giltz funeral home, Alexandria Bay.

A prayer service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Giltz funeral home with the funeral at 2 at the Plessis Methodist church with Rev. Howard Gabriel, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Brookside cemetery, Plessis.

Friends may call at the funeral home tonight and Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Stephen Michael Makepeace was born Aug. 6, 1948, at the Edward John Noble hospital, Alexandria Bay, son of Paul and Wilma Schweigel Makepeace. He was a sophomore at the Alexandria Central school and had been a member of the school band and Redwood boy scout troop.

Surviving besides his parents are a sister, Marilyn, 4; maternal grandfather, William Scheigel, Port Ewen, Ulster County; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Makepeace, Plessis, and grand-mother, Mrs. Jessie Makepeace, Plessis.

SUSAN MINNICK

Theresa -- Mrs. Susan VanAllen Minnick, 84, lifelong resident of Theresa, died July 14 at her home. She had been in failing health two years.

The body was cremated. There will be a private service at the convenience of the family in Oakwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Adele Spencer, officiating.

Donations may be made to the Theresa Emergency Corps.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Adolf (Anna) Hermann, Calcium, and Mrs. Douglas (Mary) Desormeau, Theresa; a brother, Allen Duffany, Watertown; several nieces and nephews.

She was born Nov. 26, 1900 in the Theresa area, daughter of Lewis and Isabelle MacDonald Duffany. She was graduated from Theresa High School in 1916.

She married Wayne S. Van Allen on Oct. 20, 1920.

For years the couple owned and operated a grocery store in Theresa. During World War II the couple operated the Camp Drum Post Exchange. Mr. Van Allen died in August 1954.

She married Hobart H. Minnick, former Theresa mayor, in October 1964. He died in 1966.

Mrs. Minnick was employed at the Globe Store in Watertown for a number of years.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the Theresa Eastern Star 149.

A memorial service for Mrs. Ella Margaret McMane, 66, of Plessis, wife of Robert N. McMane, was held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Plessis United Methodist Church.

Rev. Edgar A. Hunter, pastor, conducted the service.

Immediately following, there was an open house at the family home.

Mrs. McMane, who had been employed as a clerk at the Plessis Post Office since 1971, died Wednesday morning, 15 Dec 1982, in Mercy Hospital, Watertown, where she had been a patient since Nov. 30.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society through its Jefferson County Unit at the Globe Mini Mall, 302 Court St., Watertown.

Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Douglas G., of Danielson, Conn., and David N., of the Rutland Hollow Road, Black River, R.D. 1, telegraph editor of The Watertown Daily Times, and a grandson, Rodger S. McMane, of Danielson, Conn.

She was born in Reno, Nevada, 21 Apr 1916, the only child of Jonathan Payne and Edna Margaret Bretsch.

She attended public schools in Reno, Nevada, and San Antonio, Texas, before moving to northern New York, where she was graduated from Alexandria Bay High School in 1932.

In 1936 she moved to Summit, N.J., where she was employed as a child care worker. She was married to Robert N. McMane of Summit, NJ, 4 July 1937, in Springfield, NJ.

In 1946, the family moved to Plessis to live in the house which belonged to her grandmother, Ella Bretsch. It is still the family home.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Mrs. McMane was employed as a child care worker at the day care center operated by the Community Action Planning Council at St. Patrick's School, Watertown.

She was employed as a clerk at the Plessis Post Office since 1971.

William F. Megan

Alexandria Bay -- William F. Megan, 65, of Krings Point, cottage operator, died this morning at the Edward John Noble Hospital here. He had been in failing health since September.

The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Giltz Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, Redwood, Rev. Terrance R. Patterson officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Redwood.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The rosary will be said at 8 p.m., Friday.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Megan; three sons, William F., Jr., Alexandria Bay, John T., Lowville, and Thomas F., a student at Canton ATC; three daughters, Mrs. William (Barbara) Garlock, Pompano Beach, Fla., Mrs. Frederick (Margaret) Sidebotham, Alexandria Bay, and Mrs. Dennis (Kathleen) Bullock, Chippewa Bay; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Megan, New Hyde Park; two sisters, Mrs. Edward Broschart, New Hyde Park, and Mrs. Henry Cihowski, Queens Village; two brothers, Arthur R., Wantagh, L. I., Harold J., Krings Point, and eight grandchildren.

Born April 7, 1908, in Elmhurst, a son of William and Margaret Huppmann Negan (sic), he was married to Elizabeth Mohn on Nov. 27, 1930 at Our Lade of the Cenacle Church, Richmond Hill.

He and his wife were involved in the retail hardware business before moving in 1950 to Krings Point, where they had purchased a 250-acre tract of land on the St. Lawrence River in 1944 from the late Clarence Harder. Following the move, he built his family home, a workshop and the cottages that he and his wife have been operating since 1952.

Mr. Megan was influential in the development of Krings Point, playing a key role in rural electrification, all-year mail delivery and the rebuilding of the Krings Point Road.

As a young man, he was a minor league baseball pitcher and, for some years before moving upstate, was active in Little League baseball.

The family asks that contributions be made to cancer research or any favorite charity.

Richard H. McRobbie, 86

Died July 2, 1982

The funeral for Richard H. McRobbie, 86, was held Tuesday at Frederick Brothers Funeral Home, Philadelphia, with Rev. Steve Dinzler, pastor of the Philadelphia Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa.

Mr. McRobbie, a well-known farmer, died Friday, July 2, 1982 at Mercy Hospital where he had been a patient since June 26.

He was born in the Town of Rossie Aug. 15, 1893. He was the third son of Robert and Mary Ann O�Leary McRobbie. He attended schools in the Town of Rossie.

Later, his family bought a farm in the Town of Antwerp on the Bentley Road. He was raised there and ran the farm until he retired. After his retirement, Dick worked on farms in St. Lawrence County in the Canton area for a few years. When he quit working he returned to Philadelphia for the remaining years and made his home there until his death.

He was never married. His survivors include cousins, nieces and nephews.

Robert N. McMane, Dies at Age 78

ALEXANDRIA BAY -- Robert Nelson McMane, 78, Dingman Point Road, died at 8 a.m. Sunday at his home. He had been in failing health several years.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles with the Rev. Robert Vrooman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Plessis.

Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Giltz Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel; two sons, Douglas, Danielson, Conn., and David N., Paris, France, former wire editor of The Watertown Daily Times; a grandson, and two sisters, Ethel McMane, Chatham, N. J., and Marie Porterfield, Corona, Calif.

Three brothers died before him.

Born in Summit, N. J., July &,m 1911, son of Frederick and Emma Nelson McMane, he was educated in New Jersey schools. He married Ella Margaret Payne on July 4, 1937, in Springfield, N. J. The couple lived in Plessis from 1946 until Mrs. McMane�s death Dec. 15, 1982.

Mr. McMane had lived in Alexandria Bay since his marriage to Hazel Simpson on May 31, 1984.

He was employed by Acme Markets, where he served as a clerk and manager for more than 30 years. After his retirement, he was employed by the New York Air Brake.

Mr. McMane was active in community affairs, serving as treasurer of the Plessis Fire Department and the Plessis United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Brookside Cemetery Association, and served as a Cub Scout leader. He was a 50-year member of the Lakeside Lodge IOOF, Redwood, and a member of the Reformed Church of the Thousand Isles.

Mr. McMane was also an antique collector, specializing in election memorabilia.
