Redwood, Oct. 26. -- Charles Edgar Storey, jr., 61, former E. K. Liggett Drug company vice president and resident of this village for the past five years, died Thursday afternoon en route to the Edward John Noble hospital at Alexandria Bay.

Mr. Storey was found slumped in his chair in the liquor store he operated about 3:30. Dr. Joseph Recupero, Redwood, physician, was summoned and advised removal to the hospital.

Funeral services will be held at the family home Saturday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Frederick H. Haworth, jr., rector of the Episcopal church here, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, New York city.

Bearers will be Thomas Barns, Charles Wingerath, sr., Kenneth Carmon, William G. Carmon, Otto Felder and DeForest A. Skinner, all of Redwood.

Surviving Mr. Storey, besides his wife, are a son, Donald Edgar Storey of Fairfield, Conn.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Berlin of Scarsdale and Mrs. Francis Braynard of Rochester, and one brother, Ralph Storey of Los Angeles, Calif.

Born March 17, 1890, in New York city, Mr. Storey was a son of Charles Edgar and Edith May Wright Storey. The family had come to Redwood summers since Mr. Storey, jr., was ten years old. They moved to Checkered Rock, a summer camp on Butterfield lake. Mr. Story, jr., bought another camp on the lake about ten years ago.

On Feb. 4, 1913, he married the former Miss Mary Seton Gales in Mount Vernon. While working for the Liggett Drug company, Mr. Storey, jr., supervised company stores in Washington, D. C., Charlotte, N. C., Santa Monica, Calif., and Boston, Mass.

He retired in 1948 and moved to Redwood, where he bought a house. Later he bought and operated a liquor store.

C. A. SPENCER, 76
DIES IN REDWOOD

Former Sales Manager of Tobacco Firm Had Suffered Stroke.

Redwood, Feb. 10. -- Charles Albert Spencer, aged 76, died suddenly at 2 Thursday afternoon at his home in Redwood. Mr. Spencer has been in failing health since he suffered a stroke about three years ago.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 from the Quincer funeral home, Rev. Frederick Haworth, jr., of the Episcopal church, officiating.

The bearers will be Henry Jarvis, William Carmon, Kenneth Carmon, Alton Rogers, Olin Spies, and Richard Gates, sr.. Burial will be in the Redwood cemetery.

Mr. Spencer was born March 26, 1873, at Utica, a son of the late Albert and Julia Harrington Spencer. He was educated in the Utica schools.

He married Mabel Whipple in Trinity Episcopal church, Utica, August 8, 1907. Mrs. Spencer died in 1936.

Mr. Spencer was sales manager of the Kirkland Tobacco company of Utica from 1895 to 1910 when he took the position as sales manager of the Eastern division of the Hobart Manufacturing company of Troy, O., from 1910 to 1940.

He made his home in Rutherford, N. J. from 1912 to 1940, in which year he retired and purchased his present home on Church street In this village.

He was an ardent fisherman and first came to Redwood for his vacations when he was 18 years old. He made regular trips every year and finally purchased the Camp �Willowdale� on Butterfield Lake where he spent the summers.

Mr. Spencer was a member of Faxton lodge, F. & A. M. of Utica. He was a member of the local school board. He was a public spirited man and gave liberal donations to the local Parent-Teacher association, Volunteer fire department and to school functions.

Mr. Spencer is survived by one son, Alfred C.; one granddaughter, Jo-Ann, of Redwood; one sister, Mrs. A. J. (May) Harvey of New Hartford, N. Y.; one brother, Walter J. Spencer; three nephews and two nieces, all of Utica.

Mrs. Schwarz Had Been Ill Only a Few Days

and Underwent an Operation Several Hours Before
Her Death.

Theresa, Sept. 15. -- Mrs. Cora Spaulding Schwarz, 67, wife of George P. Schwarz, vice president and cashier of the Farmers National bank of this village, died Wednesday night at 11 at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, following an operation. Mrs. Schwarz had been ill only three or four days. She was taken to the Theresa hospital Monday and on Wednesday afternoon was removed to Watertown for an operation which she underwent about 7 p.m.

She was born in this township May 30, 1865, daughter of Charles E. and Esther Irvin Spaulding. She was educated in the schools here and away and she became a well known teacher. She taught at West Theresa and in the Theresa high school. On June 28, 1893, she was married to George P. Schwarz of this village and the two have always resided here. Mr. Schwarz was associated as partner in the dry goods business with George Kelsey of this village, but when the Farmers National bank was formed he became cashier and had been associated with the bank ever since.

Mrs. Schwarz was a member of the Hannahs class of the Presbyterian church. She helped organize the Progress club of this village and was an officer for years.

Her husband is the only near survivor. The funeral will be held from the family home in Commercial street Saturday at 2 p.m., Rev. John Stoddard of the Presbyterian church, of which she was a member, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Charles G. Cady of this village. Burial will be made in the family plot in Oakwood cemetery here.

Native of Kelsey Bridge Returned East Soon After

Death of Husband in 1911 -- Funeral to Be Held Tuesday.

Theresa, Dec. 9. -- Mrs. Alice Evans Sterling, 84, died suddenly on Sunday forenoon at the home of her niece, Mrs. Jessie Stratton, in Riverside avenue, this village.

She had been in bed only since Tuesday. Her condition became rapidly worse on Saturday night and the end came Sunday forenoon. Death resulted from the infirmities of advanced age.

She was born at Kelsey Bridge Feb. 21, 1851, daughter of Gilman and Mary Ann Kelsey Evans. Her mother was of the pioneer stock from which Kelsey Bridge, four miles south of this village, was named and her father of the pioneer family from which Evans Mills was named.

After attending school at Kelsey Bridge she came to Theresa to attend the Goodnough select school and the Hungerford singing school. She traveled extensively. On Aug. 15, 1889, she became the wife of Edward Sterling, a pioneer of Huron, S. D.

Edward Sterling died in 1911 and soon afterward Mrs. Sterling returned to the east and made her home with her niece, Mrs. Jessie Stratton. There were four children in the Evans family. Besides Alice there were Gilman Pitt Evans, father of Mrs. Stratton here; Ellen, mother of George C. Eddy of Kelsey Bridge and Mrs. Ada Huntington, who resides at Kelsey Bridge.

Besides her sister, Mrs. Huntington, Mrs. Sterling is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Jessie Stratton of this village and Mrs. Ida Eddy Butler of Seneca Castle; one nephew, George C. Eddy of this place, and a cousin, H. D. Kelsey of Kelsey Bridge.

She was a faithful worker in the Presbyterian church while in the west and here.

The funeral services will be held from the home on Tuesday afternoon at 2, Rev. A. R. Ehman of the Presbyterian church officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery here.

NANCY SLATE

Clayton -- Nancy B. Slate, 92, a native of Clayton, died Dec. 16 at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown.

Miss Slate was a private duty nurses aide in Watertown for many years.

Born Feb. 12, 1907, in Clayton, daughter of Colon and Villa Slate, she had lived in Palm Springs, Calif. for several years before returning to Watertown in 1953.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Three sisters, Anna Duffy, Mildred Whittier and Lilly Slate, and five brothers, Kenneth, Everett, Edwin, Stanley and George Slate, died before her.

A spring graveside service will be held in Clayton Cemetery. Arrangements are with Reed & Benoitn Funeral Home, Watertown.

Theresa, Dec. 15. -- Funeral services for Fayette Snyder, this village, who died yesterday, will be held at 1 Saturday afternoon from the Giltz funeral home. Rev. John A. Flikkema, pastor of the Presbyterian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Theresa.

Gets First Word of Fatality.

Frederick, Md., Aug. 10. -- Miss Agnes L. Snell, 26, Theresa, N. Y., was fatally injured and three of her women companions were badly injured last night when the convertible couple in which she was riding collided with a wagon on the state road near here after skidding on the wet road.

Miss Snell, fourth grad teacher at the Black River, N. Y. school, died at the Frederick City hospital at 3 this morning, several hours after the collision, of a fractured skull. She also suffered a fractured right arm and bruises.

Others injured were:

Mrs. Harry E. Gross, 25, Black River, N. Y., fractured right ankle; Miss Grace McPhee Palmer, 25, Hammond, N. Y., fractured bone in right hand and other bruises; and Miss Marjorie Sayre, 22, Macomb, N. Y., facial lacerations.

The party was en route to Luray, Va., but because of the heavy rain last night, the young women decided to stay in Frederick and were on their way here.

According to State Policeman J. J. Thompson, who investigated the accident, the car was driven by Miss Palmer and skidded on the wet pavement crashing head-on into a wagon.

News of the accident reached Theresa about 3 this morning when hospital authorities at Frederick telephoned Guy M. Huddleston, fiance of Miss Snell.

The party left Theresa about 8 Sunday morning for a week�s trip to Washington, D. C. They had planned to return to Theresa next Sunday. The car is owned by Miss Palmer.

Miss Snell was the only daughter of Karl and Gertrude Dixon Snell. She was born in this village Oct. 7, 1910. She received her education in the Theresa schools and was graduated from the Theresa High school in 1929.

Miss Snell entered Ryder college at Trenton, N. Y., the same year. She studied in that college for a half year and then went to Potsdam where she was admitted to the Potsdam Normal. She was graduated from the Normal school in 1933.

Miss Snell accepted a position the same year as teacher at the Shurtleffs Corners rural school where she remained for three and one-half years. In January, 1936, Miss Snell resigned her position as rural school teacher to accept a post as fourth grade teacher at the Black River High school.

Miss Snell was active in church work in Theresa serving as instructor in the Sunday school of the First Methodist church at Theresa. She was also president of the Live Wire class of the young ladies of the church. Her term as president of that group expired last June. Miss Snell was also a member of the church choir for about four years. She also served as a leader in the Theresa Rural Teachers� association, before going to Black River.

She is survived by her parents, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Snell, Theresa and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Alexandria Dickson, Theresa.

Mrs. Gross is the wife of Harry E. Gross, an English teacher in the Black River High school. They have been living in Black River for the past year.

Hospital authorities here notified Mr. Gross of the accident early this morning and he left his home by car for Frederick.

Miss Palmer is a music teacher at the Black River High school. She has been connected with that school for the past three years teaching music to all the grades.

Miss Sayre has been with the Gouverneur hospital for several years, employed as a nurse.

The body of Miss Snell will be forwarded to Theresa and is expected to arrive there about 6 Wednesday afternoon.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the home. Rev. U. B. Grant, minister of the First Methodist church, will officiate.

Burial will be made to Oakwood cemetery.

Miss Almeda Shaver

Plessis. Aug. 25. -- Miss Almeda Shaver died at her home in this village Aug. 24 at 10 p.m., aged 63 years and 3 months. Miss Shaver was born in this village and had always lived near her birthplace. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Shaver. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. House of Pamelia Four Corners and Mrs. H. L. Scott of the state of Washington.

Her funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the M. E. church, of which she was a member.

THERESA -- H. Joyce Sutton, 75, of 40780 Route 37, died Sunday in the emergency room at Edward John Noble Hospital-Samaritan, Alexandria Bay.

Born December 18, 1922, in Theresa, daughter of Henry and Helen Hosner Neuroth, she graduated from Theresa High School in 1939.

She married John C. Sutton Sr. on Feb. 5, 1942, in Plessis Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth D. Jones officiating. The couple was engaged in farming and also owned and operated Sutton's Sport Shop.

Mrs. Sutton was a member of Plessis United Methodist Church and the Redwood Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and crocheting.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, John C. Jr., Redwood; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Rosemary) Bartlett, Theresa; and three grandsons.

Four sisters, Doris King, Ruth Reynolds, Lois Neuroth, and Hilda Ettinger, and a brother, Donald Neuroth, died before her.

A memorial service will be held at the family's convenience. Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa.

Mrs. Elmer Allison Dies

ADAMS -- Mrs. Margaret M. Allison, 82, wife of Elmer Allison, Adams, died about 6 this morning at the House of the Good Samaritan where she had been a patient about one week.

Funeral services will be Saturday at the Piddock Funeral Home in Adams. Arrangements were being made this morning.

Calling hours at the funeral home are 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Donations may be made to the South Jefferson Rescue Squad.

There will be an Eastern Star service at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She is survived by her husband, Elmer: one daughter, Mrs. James (Christine) Shelmidine, Lorraine; two grandchildren; two brothers, Adam G. Dorr and Clarence A. Dorr, both of Watertown; and one sister, Mrs. Daniel (Elizabeth) Martin, Detroit, Mich.

She was born Oct. 3, 1894, in the Town of Brownville, the daughter of John and Nettie Kissel Dorr.

She attended local schools and married Elmer Allison of Limerick in the Concordia Lutheran Church in Watertown May 21, 1928.

She was a member and officer of the O. E. S. Cecelia Chapter 156, Adams, Alpha Rebecca Lodge of Adams, White Shrine of Watertown, American Legion Auxiliary of Adams, Dexter Grange, Senior Citizens Club of Adams and Rural Mail Carriers Auxiliary.

DORA SCHNEIDER, 99, CHURCH ORGANIST, DIES

LaFargeville--Dora Eleanor Schneider, 99, LaFargeville, active in the Home Bureau organization for many years, died Tuesday morning at the Samaritan-Keep Nursing Home, Watertown, where she had been a patient since Feb. 25, 1988.

There will be no funeral or calling hours. The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with the Frederick Brothers Funeral Home, Theresa.

Contributions may be made to the LaFargeville Episcopal Church.

Surviving are a brother, Joe Schneider, Arizona; a niece, Mary Buskirk, Antwerp, and three nephews, Edwin Schneider, Honeoye Falls, Leland Schneider, Ludlow, Mass., and Edward Schneider, Camano Island, wash.

Two brothers, Erwin and Perl Schneider, died previously.

Born in the Town of Clayton on Dec. 20, 1889, a daughter of Frank J. and Agnes A. Campbell Schneider, she was educated in LaFargeville schools.

Miss Schneider was active in the Home Bureau as a young woman. She studied upholstering and slip covering at Cornell University, Ithaca, and then taught those subjects on Long Island for several years.

Miss Schneider later returned to the north country where she continued her work in these areas.

She was a member of the LaFargeville Episcopal Church and had served as church organist for many years. Miss Schneider was also a member of the Home Bureau.

Clarence Schell, Ex-Shop Foreman, Dead (1989)

PHILADELPHIA -- Clarence L. Schell, 84, of 36 Sand St., retired shop foreman at the St. Joe Mineral Co., Balmat, died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where he had been a patient since March 13.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Frederick Brothers Funeral Home, Theresa, with the Rev. Colin Kerr-Carpenter, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Philadelphia, officiating. Spring burail will be in Grove Cemetery, LaFargeville.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Philadelphia Rescue Squad.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John (Beverly) Phillips, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Mrs. James (Mary Lou) Coyle, Rodman; two grandchildren, Michael Bigarel, Hewitt, N. Y., and Mrs. Gary (Sherrie) Williams, Gouverneur, and three great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Emmet Schell of LaFargeville, and Elmer Schell of Nelliston, and three sisters, Mrs. Millard (Stata) Hines and Mrs. Glen (Ethel) Fleming, both of Copenhagen, and Mrs. Celora (Laura) Brown of St. Johnsville, died previously.

Born in the Town of Orleans on April 17, 1904, a son of William and Addie Larabee Schell, he attended the LaFargeville Union School, after which he was graduated from the Michigan State Automobile School, Detroit, Mich., in 1924. He returned to this area where he worked as a mechanic for several businesses.

He married Ruth Whitford of Antwerp, Nov. 26, 1925, at Richville.

The couple resided in Watertown for a short time after their marriage. They then moved to the Copenhagen-Harrisville area, and later to Balmat, where Mr. Schell was employed 33 years as a shop foreman for the St. Joe Mineral Co. He retired in 1969, and the couple moved to their present home in Philadelphia.

Mrs. Schell died Oct. 2, 1984, at age 76.

Mr. Schell was a member of the Senior Citizens of Antwerp and Philadelphia.
