WALTER WOOD, SR.

Alexandria Bay -- Walter L. Wood, Sr., 82, of 5 Highland Avenue, died at Edward John Noble Hospital skilled nursing facility, where he had been a resident since Jan. 24, 1991. He had been in failing health since 1972.

The funeral was held Tuesday at Frederick Brothers Funeral Home, Theresa, with the Rev. Winifred Daughen, of Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Barnes Settlement Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alexandria Bay Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Surviving are his wife, Isobell; a son, Walter L. Jr., Alexandria Bay; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers and 12 sisters died before him.

Born June 17, 1910, in Alexandria Bay, one of 15 children of Charles and Lucy DeYoung Wood, he graduated from Alexandria Bay High School in 1928 and went to work at the A & P Store.

He married Isobell Henderson of Plessis Oct. 14, 1937. The couple lived in Alexandria Bay since their marriage.

Mr. Wood joined the U. S. Navy in April 1945 and served aboard the USS Midway. He was discharged Jan. 19, 1946.

Following his military service, he worked at Rogers market for 15 years, then delivered milk for Clifford VanBrocklin. In 1962 he went to work at the Crowley Milk Co., LaFargeville, retiring in 1972 due to ill heealth.

Mr. Wood was a member of John B. Lyman Post, 904 American Legion and a former member of the volunteer fire department of Alexandria Bay and the International Order of Odd Fellows Hopewell Lodge. He was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Men�s Twlight Golf League.

Redwood -- The funeral for Doris M. Weeks, 66, County Route 111, wife of Richard K. Weeks, was held Saturday at the Bossout-Lundy Funeral Home, Harrisville, with the Rev. Thomas H. Jones, pastor of the Harrisville First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Harrisville Cemetery.

Mrs. Weeks died May 26 in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where she had been a patient for several days.

Contributions may be made to the ambulance funds of the Harrisville or Redwood file departments.

Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Gary A., Dallas, Tex., and Douglas E., Issaquah, Wash.; a daughter, Sharon E. Weeks, Redwood; five grandchildren; a brother, Aaron M. Humes, North Syracuse, and a sister, Mary Stryker, Bar Harbor, Wash.

Born Sept. 9, 1926, in Syracuse, daughter of Stephen M. and Mary Shepardson Humes, she graduated from Harrisville High School in 1943. Before marriage, she was employed at the post office in Harrisville and at the former A & P grocery store. She later worked for the Roswell Cring grocery store in Harrisville.

She married Richard K. Weeks July 12, 1948, in the parsonage of the Harrisville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Arthur E. Blundon, then pastor, officiating.

The couple lived in several north country communities while Mr. Weeks was employed by the Agway Co. They had lived on County Route 111 since Mr. Weeks�s retirement in 1984 as manager of the Plessis Agway.

Mrs. Abigail A. Wright.

Carthage, July 2. -- Mrs. Abigail A. Wright, wife of Edwin R. Wright, died at her home in Champion Huddle Sunday at 12:30 p.m., aged 69 years, three months and 17 days. The funeral will be held from the residence Thursday at 1. Rev. E. J. Fults of Alton, Wayne county, former pastor of the Methodist Protestant church of North Wilna, will officiate. Burial will be at Champion village.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin R. Right, and one son, Colvin Wright, one grandson, Donald Wright, and two brothers, James Colvin of Champion , and Benjamin Colvin, Theresa. Mrs. Wright was a member of the Great Bend grange and of the Methodist Protestant church of North Wilna. She was an old resident of Champion, living there 53 years.

MRS. EFFIE I. WILLIAMS ONCE TEACHER AT THERESA, DIES

Theresa, June 15. -- The death of Mrs. Effie Irvin Williams, which occurred in Upper Darby, Pa., on Thursday, recalls that many Theresa people were once pupils of this school teacher of the early 1880�s. The message of her death was received here by George P. Schwartz, close fiend of the family.

Mrs. Wiliams� father, Richard Irvin, was a successful principal of the Theresa High school some 55 years ago. Effie Irvin, when she began her teaching was hired to teach the West Theresa school, where there were some 40 pupils at that time. She was regarded as one of the best teachers of that period. Mrs. James B. Vock of this village was a pupil in that school, as were Mrs. Lillian Timmerman, E. A. Zellar, D. D. French and others.

Her marriage to Harry O. Williams ended her teaching career.

FREDERICK WALTON, REDWOOD, 78, DIES

Redwood -- Frederick O. Walton, 78, Redwood, died at 2:10 p.m. Sunday at the Edward John Noble Hospital, Alexandria Bay, where he had been admitted Friday.

The funeral will be 11 p.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Church with Rev. Roland Hart officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Frederick Brothers Funeral Home here. A wake service will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and the Redwood Fire Department will conduct services at 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in his name to the Redwood Ambulance Fund.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, Redwood; a daughter, Marcia, Camillus; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Shoulette, Redwood, nieces and nephews.

Born in the Redwood section Sept. 10, 1905, a son of William and Emma Felder Walton, he attended local schools and worked for the New York Central Railroad a short time and Diamond Match factory, Ogdensburg.

Returning to the Redwood section, he operated a farm until retiring in 1968. He later worked as a gardener at Long Vue Island and the Edgewood Resort.

He married Ruth Kavanaugh of Alexandria Bay Sept. 10, 1934. Mrs. Walton taught several years in local schools.

A communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church, he was a member of the Redwood Volunteer Fire Department more than 60 years and was fire commissioner of Redwood.

MRS. K. L. WALTS

PASSES AWAY AT REDWOOD

Mother of L. C. Mitchell of This City Succumbs to Heart Failure

REDWOOD, Dec. 28. -- Mrs. Katherine Louise Mitchell Walts passed away this morning at 5:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elmer E. Eddy. Death was due to angina pectoris. She had been in failing health for some time.

Mrs. Walts was born in Lafargeville, December 21, 1943, the daughter of Cornelius and Sally Krake Bort. She passed her early life in Lafargeville and on December 9, 1863, was united in marriage to Hon. Isaac Mitchell of Stone Mills. Mr. Mitchell was supervisor of the town of Orleans for eleven years and was a member of the assembly at Albany from 1888 to 1892. He died February 2, 1893. Mrs. Mitchell then moved to Watertown and on June 27, 1901, was married to Hon. Charles Walts, county judge, who died in 1914.

Mrs. Walts, following the death of her husband, moved to Redwood, and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. E. E. Eddy.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Eddy; two sons, Fred B. Mitchell of Lafargeville and Lou C. Mitchell of Watertown and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Fish and Mrs. Martha Snow of Watertown and Mrs. George McNickle of Lafargeville.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1 o�clock from the home of Dr. Eddy, Rev. H. B. Kruse, pastor of the Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be made in the North Watertown Cemetery.

RITES FOR MISS GENEVIEVE WALTS WEDNESDAY AT 2 P. M.

Evans Mills, March 20. -- Funeral services for Miss Genevieve Walts, town of LeRay school teacher and retired Passaic, N. J., teacher, will be held at her home in Pamelia Four Corners Wednesday afternoon at 2. Burial will be made at Evans Mills. Rev. Walter J. Suits, pastor of the Methodist church of Philadelphia, will officiate.

Miss Walts, who died suddenly at her home yesterday morning, was a member of the Leray de Chaumont chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. She taught vocational training in Passaic for 19 years until her retirement a year ago.

Ida C. Wills

The funeral for Mrs. Ida C. Wills, 89, was held Tuesday at the Frederick Brothers Funeral Home, Redwood, with Rev. Edgar Hunter, Methodist Minister, officiating. Burial was on the family plot in Redwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Wills, a lifelong resident of Redwood, died Saturday afternoon, July 14, 1979, in the Edward John Noble Hospital, Alexandria Bay. She had been in failing health for two years.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Redwood Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Wills is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lily Skinner, Redwood. A sister died previously.

Born 25 Sep 1889, she was the daughter of George H. and Lily Curtis Helmer, Town of Alexandria.

She was educated in the Redwood Union School.

She married Bryce Wills on 24 July 1908.

The couple owned and operated a farm. Mr. Wills died 25 may 1923.

Mrs. Wills then moved to Redwood and worked for two years in a grocery store, and she later worked for the U.S. Post Office for 32 years. She retired in 1956.

She was a member of the Methodist Church, the OES Thousand Islands Chapter 154, and was the last of the charter members of Rebekah Lodge 631, formed in 1924.

She was also an honorary member of the North Redwood Club and the Redwood-Plessis Senior Citizens.

W. Wilson DEAD at 75

THERESA -- Walter E. Wilson, 75, retired farmer, died at 2:45 this morning in Edward John Noble Hospital, Alexandria Bay, where she had been a patient two days. He had been in failing health six months.

The funeral will be Sunday at Brothers Funeral Home, Rev. Dewitt Loomis, community pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Evans Mills Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Masonic service will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 8 p.m.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Dora Hall Wilson; a sister, Mrs. Raymond (Hazel) Hall, Adams Center; a brother, Glen, Adams; nieces and nephews.

Born July 30, 1897, in the Town of Orleans, a son of Rolla and Florence Hanson Wilson, he moved with his family to Theresa, where he attended schools. He married Dora Hall of Antwerp, June 2, 1925. The couple lived at Evans Mills, where Mr. Wilson was employed with the Borden Co., and later moved to the Theresa vicinity. He operated a farm until moving to his present address in 1961.

Mr. Wilson was a member of Theresa Masonic Lodge 174.
