ERNEST WILEY EXPIRES AT 83

Prominent Rosiere Farmer, Member of County Election Board --

Was Ill 2 Years.

Cape Vincent, Aug. 26. -- Ernest G. Wiley, 83, prominent Rosiere farmer and a member of the county board of elections for many years, died at 10:10 Thursday evening at his farm home in Rosiere of a coronary thrombosis.

He had suffered for the past two years from a heart condition.

There will be a prayer service Monday at 9:15 a.m. at the Mannigan funeral home, Cape Vincent, followed by the funeral at 10 in St. Vincent de Paul church, Rosiere. Burial will be in the church cemetery at Rosiere. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Francis, by his first marriage, at home; and a sister, Mrs. Melford (Lois) Gosier, Rosiere.

He was born in the town of Cape Vincent, July 27, 1877, son of Frank and Mary Elms Wiley. He was educated in Cape Vincent schools and owned and operated the family farm previously operated by his parents at Rosiere. The farm is now operated by his son, Francis.

He was for years a member of the board of elections and prominent in politics in the town of Cape Vincent. He was a Democrat.

He married the former Miss Mary Fields, Cape Vincent, in October, 1916, in Holy Family church, Watertown. She died May 21, 1929.

He married Miss Anna Huff, Rosiere Oct. 19, 1933, in St. Vincent de Paul church, Rosiere, with Rev. Matthew Sweet, pastor, officiating.

Glenn Walts, Farmer, Dies

THERESA -- Glenn R. Walts, 72, an Evans Mills native and dairy farmer, died at his home early this morning. He had been in failing health for the past year and underwent surgery Dec. 10.

The body was transported to the House of the Good Samaritan, where Mr. Walts was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 4:55 a.m.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the Frederick Brothers Funeral (Home) here with Rev. Randall Gill, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial in the spring will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Calling hours will be at the funeral Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Surviving are his wife, Iva, Evans Mills; two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Call, Evans Mills, and Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Styczynski, Pulaski, Wis.; two brothers, Alonzo, Evans Mills, and Orrin, Theresa; four grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A sister, Mrs. Hazel Rockwood, Rome, died before him.

Born Nov. 14, 1909, in the Town of LeRay, one of four children of Clarence and Matilda Hanson Walts, he attended rural schools and hauled milk to the Borden�s Plant in Evans Mills for 21 years.

On May 6, 1939, he married the former Iva McLaughlin. The couple operated a farm on the Pink Schoolhouse Road all their married life.

Mr. Walts also did lime hauling and other tracking and custom work for area farmers.

He was a member of the Pamelia Grange, Jefferson County Cooperative Extension.

MRS. HERBERT WATTS, 43, DIES

Mrs. Shirley LaLonde Watts, 43, wife of Herbert S. Watts, Watertown, R. D. 2, the Watertown-Copenhagen road, and mother of ten children, died at 7:15 this morning in the House of the Good Samaritan, where she had been critically ill since she was admitted Thursday night.

Death was attributed to peritonitis following an operation for ruptured intestines.

Mrs. Watts, who had been in poor health for two years, underwent the emergency operation as soon as she entered the hospital, having been stricken critically ill at home.

In February, 1962, when she gave birth to her last child, a daughter, through a Cesarean section at the House of the Good Samaritan, she also underwent an operation for a stomach obstruction and was critically ill for a time. Last January she underwent further surgery for an intestinal condition.

She was born in Watertown, Oct. 12, 1919, a daughter of Everette and Mereline Conklin LaLonde. She had resided in Watertown or vicinity all her life. She was educated in Watertown schools.

She was married to Herbert S. Watts, then a soldier at Madison Barracks, May 2, 1936, at Sackets Harbor by Justice of the Peace Isaac W. Stokes. She was then 16 years old. Mr. and Mrs. Watts resided in this city until moving to the Copenhagen road from New York avenue a year ago.

Mr. Watts is employed by the Burdick Coal & Oil company.

Surviving her, besides her husband, are her mother, Mrs. Mereline M. Murrow, and a sister, Mrs. Florence Rockwood, both of 657 Olive street and ten children, Mrs. Lewis (Margaret) Sanford, Lowville, Pfc. Everett S. Watts, army, now en route home from Korea, Mrs. Ola P. Bishop, 137 North Meadow street, Miss Florence M. Watts, 820 Cooper street, Herbert G. and Henry J. Watts, six-year-old twins, Louise Shirley Watts, 5, Daryl Duane Watts, 3, Guy Norman Watts, 2, and Lucy May Watts, 1.

The funeral will be Monday at 2 at the Simpson funeral home. Rev. John J. Kelly, pastor of the First Methodist church will officiate. Burial will be in North Watertown Cemetery.

MRS. ELLA WILLIAMS

Plessis -- Mrs. Ella J. Williams, 92, widow of Forrie Williams, died Wednesday morning in Edward John Noble hospital, Alexandria Bay, where she had been a patient 26 hours.

The funeral was Friday afternoon at the Quincer,-Frederick Brothers Funeral Home, Redwood, Rev. Edgar Hunter of the Plessis United Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery.

Surviving are a son, Glenn, Plessis; two daughters, Mrs. Martin (Gladys) Reynolds, Alexandria Bay and Miss Arlena Williams of Plessis; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Born Jan. 6, 1881 in the Town of Brownville, daughter of Morgan and Delia Mallette Van Brocklin, she attended local schools and was graduated from Antwerp Seminary. She taught in local schools and was married to Forrie Williams of Plessis Jan. 20, 1904.

The couple operated the Williams homestead farm until Mr. Williams� retirement in 1946 when they came to Plessis. He died in January 1948.

Mrs. Williams was a member of the Plessis United Methodist church and the USCS of the church.

WIFE OF CHAS. WARD, THERESA, DIES

Woman Aged 80, Dies From Heart Attack, Sunday --

Funeral And Burial Held Wednesday

Theresa: Mrs. Mary Jane Dyer Ward, aged 80, wife of Charles Ward, died suddenly Sunday morning at 9 o�clock at her home in Park avenue. Mrs. Ward suffered a heart attack. Dr. S. T. Manong was called, but she was dead before he arrived.

She was born at Black Lake, Feb. 19, 1860, daughter of John and Martha Dyer. On July 24, 1880, she was married to Charles Ward of Morristown. Most of her life was spent in the vicinity of Theresa.

She is survived by her husband, three sons and three daughters, Charles H. Ward, Philadelphia; Ezra B. Ward and Fred J. Ward of Evans Mills; Mrs. Kate Chamberlain, Watertown, Mrs. Alice Meeks and Thelma Ward of Theresa; two brothers, George Dyer of Chippewa Bay and William Dyer of Syracuse.

Funeral services were held from the home on Wednesday at two p.m. Rev. W. Sheldon Bishop of the Presbyterian church officiated. Burial was made in the family plot in the Oakwood cemetery.

Hedwig Wimmer Dead at Age 74

REDWOOD -- Mrs. Hedwig Wimmer, 74, widow of Peter Wimmer, died Thursday at her home on the Wimmer Rod. She had been in failing health since September.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church with Rev. Rolland Hart officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

Calling hours will be tonight from 7 to 9 at the Frederick Brothers Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.

She is survived by three sons, Peter, Redwood, Paul, Carthage, and Charles, Seneca Falls; six daughters, Mrs. Paul (Mary) Grubbs, Lake Worth, Fla., Mrs. Roland (Elizabeth) Woodworth, Miami, Fla., Mrs. George (Ruth) Verotis, Carthage, Mrs. Douglas (Hilda) Putnam, Alexandria Bay, Mrs. James (Clara) Tucker, Antwerp, Mrs. George (Nancy) Burtch, Alexandria Bay; 17 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Joseph Hainzer and Herman Hainzer, both of Pennsylvania, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Zallar, Pennsylvania.

A brother, Tony Hainzer, died in 1959.

Born in Mittersill, Austria, on Nov. 10, 1906, a daughter of the late Anton and Mary Hocksteiiner Hainzer, she moved with her family at the age of 14 to the United States, settling in the Pennsylvania area.

She married Peter Wimmer, also a native of Austria, on Dec. 11, 1924, in Cumberland, Md. The couple moved to Redwood in 1931 where they owned and operated a dairy farm. He died Aug. 16, 1954 at the age of 64.

Mrs. Anna Wiley Dies

ROSIERE -- Mrs. Anna Huff Wiley, 83, widow of Ernest G. Wiley, died at 12:30 this morning in A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg, where she had been a patient four weeks.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul�s Church here, Rev. Eugene Burns, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul�s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the King Funeral Home, Cape Vincent, Wednesday from 1:30 to 4 and & to 9 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

She is survived by a step-son, Francis, and a sister, Miss Mae Huff, both of Cape Vincent, and nieces and nephews.

Born in Rosiere, Nov. 23, 1891, a daughter of George and Catherine Weaver Huff, she was married to Ernest G. Wiley on Oct. 19, 1933, in St. Vincent de Paul�s Church.

The couple lived on a farm in Rosiere their entire married life, and following Mr. Wiley�s death in 1960, Mrs. Wiley continued to reside there.
