DEATH OF MARVIN WALTZ.

Another of La Portes Pioneers Dies at
his home in Des Moines.

On Wednesday last just as we were going to press word came to the city by telegram announcing the death of Marvin Waltz, a former resident of this city. No particulars were obtainable at that time but the brief announcement was given to our readers.

Marvin Waltz was born in Herkimer county, New York in 1838 and with his parents moved to Jefferson county in 1840. In 1862 he was married to Martha Burler. To this union were born three sons, Webster, Fred and John, and one daughter, Nellie. Webster, the first born died in infancy and John died in 1894 in this city. Mr. Waltz with his family moved to Iowa and settled on a farm near La Porte in 1868, and in 1870 he moved from the farm into town and took up his trade, that of carpenter and builder. In 1890 his first wife died. In 1894 the deceased was again married to Miss Maggie Clark, and following this marriage they removed to and settled in Des Moines where they have since lived. To this union was born one son, Alvin. One son, Fred, and one daughter, Mrs. Nathan Clark, children by first wife, and last wife and son, Alvin, survive.

The deceased was an honest, upright, hardworking man, and it is said that his death was caused by overwork and exposure during the present severe winter. The remains were brought to La Porte on Thursday evening accompanied by the surviving relatives., wife and son, Fred, and the funeral was held from the Presbyterian church on Friday morning. Mr. Waltz was a member of the Independent order of Workmen, and the ceremonies attendant upon burial were in charge of that order, the Rev. S. E. Koons preaching the sermon, after which the remains were conveyed to West View cemetery and consigned to Mother Earth. A large concourse of sorrowing friends attended the last sad rites.
