Welcome to my world of crazy ideas, folks! My husband just told me I’m really scrounging around for something to do now....maybe he’s right! But, ah ha, spring weather hasn’t arrived yet here in North Central Ohio. I always have excuses for the whacky things I do.
I’ve often wanted to make some kind of game for my family members to play which would involve the findings I’d uncovered surrounding the scores of ancestors previously unidentified. Well, that will continue to be a dream because I can’t find anyone in the family who gives a darn!!! So much for that!
Knowing that there are many great websites out there upon which many generous people have spent hours and hours of their time preparing, I have decided to probe as many as I can and come out with a collection of questions and make them into quizzes for my website. As time goes on, I shall develop a link to each and every site from which I glean my answers/questions. This should prove to be a way for each of us to keep on our toes and make us all better informed as to where to find answers to the questions we encounter every day in our hobby of genealogy. We, with Jefferson County ancestry, are very fortunate to have the huge battery of informative websites at our fingertips. So, the first quiz has been taken from the only History/Gazetteer which I own and from the Jefferson County NY GenWeb site, maintained by Nan & Bill Dixon.
Hopefully, my viewers will submit questions and websites for consideration. Yep....I’ll give you credit, too! I want to make this a fun thing for all. Remember, though, we have to keep it entertaining -- that means I don’t want some curmudgeon to come pouncing at me because a question was misleading, not exactly true according to whatever history he thinks is gospel -- those kind of incidents which come up when someone is trying to have a little fun. If you’re looking for exactitude, go someplace else. I will do the best with the questions that my subnormal brain can do. We gotta lighten up, you know. So, I’m not going to have a “nerd of the month” list, either. Thought about it, though.
You are welcomed to print these out -- enjoy them in your Florida room over morning coffee or take them to that local coffee shop, but enjoy, learn, and have fun.
And.....don’t expect a new quiz every month -- we all hope to have some nice weather soon and who wants to sit in the house doing this sort of thing!!! Just come back often and see what’s here. And don't forget, for now, the Index to the quizzes will be on this page!!!
